T.G.I.F!!

If it’s one thing you all probably know about me already, it’s that I love those weekends when I’m not on call to the hospital. This is one such weekend. Thank God It’s Friday! When I drive out of the hospital this evening, they shall not see my face again until Monday morning. Unfortunately, next week will I will be on call for the week again. Anyhow, let’s not dwell on that too much.

In my mind I have already started to think about what to do this weekend. Lime Cay is always a definite option. It seems as if Sundays are the better days for scenery, but I don’t think I’ll be able to make it on Sunday so perhaps Saturday. I’ll see. This Sunday, the Portland Jerk festival is also on. Portland is one of my favourite spots to hang out because it is so lush and laid back. However, I know folks who have been to the Jerk Festival in the past. They say that it is always oversubscribed, lots of crowds, difficulty parking and they have in the past run out of Jerk after driving for an hour and a half to get there. So I will pass on that, crowds don’t appeal much to me anyway. The only event that I don’t mind going to that is crowded is football matches at the National Stadium.

Speaking of which, Sunday morning begins at 6AM with the Brazilians battling the Germans. I suspect that there will be a large carnival back in Rio should the Brazilians do what I want them to. The Third place playoff between Turkey and Korea should also make for good entertainment. That’s on Saturday. I’m going to end this post with a little anecdote. I haven’t given any for a while.

Yesterday, where I do my private work, a young male came to see me on account of genital warts in his perianal region. He told me that he did time in jail for one year and was released about 2 months ago. He says that he was charged for a crime which he did not do. (Who am I to make any judgement?) Apparently, while he was in prison, he was sexually molested (from the rear) and this is how he says he contracted the warts. I fully believed him.

I started to think about the patients that I have encountered over the years that have done time in prison. This took me back to a time when I was doing Internship at the Children’s hospital, ‘Busta’ as we call it. I had admitted a young child there on a duty day. While taking the history from the mother, I noted that she knew very little about the child. I asked her why it was that she seemed not to know much about the child. She told me that she had been released from jail the day before. She did eighteen months in ‘lockup’. I asked her what crime she was found guilty of. She told me that she had an argument with an old boyfriend, he was harrassing her for sex and she wasn’t giving in to him. He kept insisting. She got fed up and sank her knife into his belly. (You go girl!) She told me that she was charged ,”fi malicious oonding of one guy” (for malicious wounding of a man.) Well, after hearing that, I approached her with caution and nuff respect (plenty respect) as I had visions of her being related to the famous Bobbit woman from the U.S! Just the thought of it makes me want to shield the Family jewels from injury! Enjoy the upcoming weekend. Cheer for Brazil on Sunday.

You never fail to please Dr. D! I can always get a good joke from your blog - make the most of your weekend. Take care now. BTW, I hate crowds too and I’d prefer Frenchman’s Cove over Lime Cay, although I’ve never been to Lime Cay - can you imagine that?! True though.

Hmph… We may go to Frenchmen’s Cove, actually… We’ll see. Bwoy, life rough eeeh! Imagine, a guy is pestering you hard hard, and very likely noone will help you or protect you from him. Eventually you deal with the case yourself and get 18 months… I only hope the guy stops pestering her in future.

Doctor D, Jerk chicken in Portland: Delicious. Have some tear ‘jerk’ing sausage for me as well. Have a great weekend.
