Wrong Address!

Well, I feel like a new man this morning. Perhaps it was the effect of rest and knowing that I am not going into work until Monday, but I feel so much better.

I took a friend of mine from school days out last night. Let’s call him Bert. He now resides in The Cayman Islands. He is staying with relatives in an area called Montgomery, just a few minutes drive into the hills above my home. I told him that I would pick him up at about 9:15 PM.

I drove up into the driveway at the address he gave me. It was a nice looking home, as are most of the houses in the area. There was a scruffy dog in the garage barking at me, so I did not alight from the vehicle. Three cars were parked in the driveway. After about five minutes, I did not see any movement or anyone coming to the door, so I tried to call Bert on my cellular phone. For some strange reason, the call would not connect. I tried about three times with the same result. Eventually, I blew the car horn once (something I dislike doing, as I think it is poor manners) but still no one came out.

I tried calling him again, as I started to wonder if everyone was gone to bed. He answered. He said that he would be right outside. Another five minutes or so passed, still no sign of Bert! I started to wonder, is it that the house was so large that it could take him so long to reach the front door. We do have some large homes in this country, but this would be rather unusual. My cell rang. It was Bert. He asked me where I was. I said on the driveway. He said that he was outside, but he did not see my car. I asked him how many cars were on the driveway. He said two. Oh shit! I then realized that I was at the wrong address. I turned the engine on and made a swift exit from the people’s place, after all, if the owner had come out front, there may well have been a query as to what I was doing in the driveway.

I did find the right address. I had made a wrong turn at a crossing and ended up just around the corner. He laughed at me, saying that if the owner of the home was an armed trigger happy Jamaican, I might have caused gunfire to erupt. An ominous thought indeed.

Anyway, we headed down the hill, initially to eat some Chinese food at Dragon Court Restaurant. We arrived there at 9:50 PM, only to be greeted by a CLOSED sign! I was pissed, but there wasn’t much I could do. Eventually, I decided to drive by the Terra Nova Hotel as they usually have a Poolside Lime on Friday nights. It wasn’t as crowded as it usually is but we were greeted by a waiter very promptly, much to our delight as we were both raw (hungry).

I decided to have the fish and chips and Bert went with the Jerked Chicken. Both are served with fries. I had a couple VX and Pepsis (naturally). Bert is not a drinker and he had sodas. We enjoyed the food and sat there having a lot of man talk. We chatted about all sorts of stuff and caught up on personal happenings with each other since we last saw one another the year before. We tried to get a few other guys from school days to join us, but everybody declined. Eventually, we left and headed back home at about midnight. All in all, it was not a bad evening at all. I think the Rum may have helped to wash the residual flu virions out of my system.

It’s Saturday, and I’m not working. It’s the peak of Summer. How about the beach? Sounds good to me. Any takers?

On a final note. I saw in the newspaper today where a number of Giant Squid were beached in JaLolla, California. It is thought that the squid were probably following prey, perhaps grunion, a small fish, and washed ashore alive. They were apparently unable to get back into the water and died. Too bad. About nine tons of dead squid were reported to have been moved by city authorities. I wonder if any of my readers from California heard about this? wKen? Anyway, enjoy your weekend. Later.

    Super squirting squid.

Thanks for the link Shelli. As a sidetrack, do any of you readers like squid? I tried it once in a Chinese restaurant in Florida. I found it a bit rubbery and lacking in taste, can’t say that I would rush to eat it again.

Glad to be of service. It depends on the person and how it is prepared. Anything can taste horrible if prepared incorrectly. Recipes

Actually, I read of the squid thingy at the Temple of the Bitchy Goddezz… We must setup a get together with Bert, man. Maybe he can come tomy house and play Kalooki, what do you think?
  6. Dr. D. Says:
No problem Shelli. Mad Bull, I am quite sure that Bert is intelligent enough to not want to play a silly game like Kalooki! How about some drinks at Hilton poolside, that sounds like a far more productive lime to me. I will give him a call and link you later.

Oops! I just chatted with Bert, in fact, he does play Kalooki, he says almost every other weekend in Cayman. Whatever!
  8. Rufie Says:
Hey Dr D what is this intense dislike for kalooki? I haven’t played in a few years well, but from what I remember the games (and the lime) was most enjoyable…why not try a hand with the Mad Bull and others and see what transpires. Bert sounds like a nice guy - maybe he will be patient enough to show you the ropes?! Good joke about the ‘wrong address.’ Lucky for you the scruffy dog was in the garage and not let out as I’m sure he’d have caused quite a bit of a rukus…nuff said! )

Hey doc, I think you may have a calling to being a comedian. This post was funny, but you need to be careful like bert suggested, especially late at night in Jamaica.
  10. Natty Says:
Are you sure it was a giant squid? I was watching a documentary on Discovery where they are still seaching to find a giant squid.
  11. Dr. D. Says:
Natty, I know the documentary on Discovery. I saw pictures of these squid, they are not anything near the size that they are looking for on that documentary..
