Miss Jamaica World, and me, a comedian?

I did not see the Miss Jamaica World beauty contest last night as I attended a little dinner with friends from high school days. It was irie (good) with nuff joke (lots of laughs) and camraderie.

On Saturday of this week, we (my high school class) are having a fund raising dinner for one of the guys who we went to school with, who has suffered misfortune. I have decided to be part of the entertainment for the evening. I have proposed to do standup comedy. Let me know what onoo tink bout dat (let me know what you all think about that). I am open to any of you that wish to send me good jokes to use. I do have a fair amount that I tell from time to time, and these are related to experiences that I have had while doing my work as a doctor. Also, my experiences travelling with our people, usually crack people up as well. But, I’m still open to others. I will have to suss out (make an appraisal of) the audience on the night. This will determine if the jokes will be rated G only, or if I can go a step higher to PG. I don’t think I will be able to tell any Triple X ones. I really do not want to cause any offense. So, if you know any good ones, as a bredren, share dem nuh. (So, if you know any good ones, as a friend, share them please).

If you want to get a prips (look) at our new Miss Jamaica, you can check this link. Sorry, but the photograph is a bit small. Tell me what you think. Do you feel we have a chance in the Miss World contest this year? Congratulations to the winner Danielle O’Hayon. Hope she will do our island proud.

Anyway, the fun and frolick of the weekend just gone is now over. BACK TO WORK! Have a good week and those of you in the States, have a good Labour day. Mine will be spent doing real labour. I’m green with envy!

Sorry doc, but I really know no jokes that I could help you with. Good luck to you on the night. The young woman who won the Miss Jamaica (world) contest did find favour with me as a potential winner, due to her rather good looks. So, it was no real surprise when she won. I hope she takes it a step further by doing well at the Miss World contest. I have noticed though that teenagers never seem to do well on the big occasion, so it will be tough for her. Good luck to her all the same.

i don’t have any jokes for you, but i’m sure you’ll do great with just ’slice of life’ humor. telling funny stories is better than telling jokes by themselves. traveling stories are usually quite good, and i know you have some good ones. you’re gonna do great!

You safe, my youth… Oh and all you have to do is ask Rufie… Everyone knows she is the funniest human on the planet, no, in the known universe.
  4. Rufie Says:
Doc clearly someone has misrepresented me to Mad Bull…the funniest person in the universe? I wish! Thanks for the big up though Mad Bull you’re making me blush! Dr D you know most of my jokes, so all you have to do is dig down in the memory bank and it will all come back to you; just in case, Daddy knows a few good ones, too, although they more than likely will be XXX rated as per his usual style! I know you’ll do well doc - you are an A1 comedian for sure..no doubts there.

Hi Doc, About this dinner - MB had briefed me on the initial plans when I was last home and I think its an amazing thing you guys are doing, and I hope its extremely successful! Where will it be, what form will it take, and is there any way any of your readers who may be inclined to help can do so? Can you share the info on the site perhaps, set up a fund or whatever? Just a thought! I’d like to help in some way if I can…

Seven, we have an account that we use for fund raising purposes CIBC Half Way Tree Branch Acc# 1000636390, so anyone can send funds to that account. We are raising funds specifically for sending our friend overseas for treatment, and need to raise US$20000.00. (we hope with the dinner procedes we will be half way there, so there is still a lot of work to be done). FYI our friend was a victim of the Gun, and is paralysed from the chest down, and suffers constant severe pain in the region of the spine where a bullet is still lodged. AND you know him….he is a regular reader and contributor of the Blog.

Seven, I think Phleg has given you the info. Tell Midas to drop us a cheque, we do accept US Currency!

Danielle O’Hayon (Miss Jamaica) is my cousin. You should already be proud. She is a young woman full of grace and dignity. I am proud for you, and I live in the US.
