Once a month??!!

Posted in General on October 30th, 2002 by Dr. D

Well, I’ve had a good day so far. The talk I gave this morning was pretty well received and in all honesty, I enjoyed doing it. Needless to say, the change of scenery from the hospital was also welcome. Anyhow, I had to press (step on the gas) after lunch at the workshop, to make it in time to see some patients in the clinic in the afternoon.

This post is about what happened with one of them. One of my patients that has been coming to clinic for a while with eczema, came for a routine follow up appointment today. His eczema was pretty well controlled. So I started writing up a prescription for him. While I was doing this, he asked me if he could chat about something that was on his mind. So I said yes, as I was in a pretty good mood as well.

He said to me that he was having problems at home. Marital ones. I listened and he essentially told me that it had to do with the fact that he was not getting enough sex from his wife, as far as he was concerned. He said he had discussed it with a couple of his bredrens, and they told him that they agreed with him. He said he wanted to get my opinion.

I asked him on average how often he was having sex. He said, ONCE PER MONTH DOC!! This he said with his eyes quite wide open. I tried not to look too shocked myself. This guy is 38 years old, athletic and reasonable looking. I asked him what age his wife was and he said 33. So before I said anything, I paused and thought while I continued to write his prescription.

OK I said. First of all, in my opinion, once a month for a couple in your age group is a bit on the low side. He then said that there were times when the frequency was less and it was driving him crazy as his hormones were getting the better of him. He said that he had to be resorting to relieving himself manually, and he did not find it satisfying enough.

He said that some of his friends had told him that they would have to ‘go outta road’ (seek sex outside of the marriage) if they were in the same situation. Now, I said to him that what he needed to do was explore the reasons why her interest in sex had fallen off. Was it that she had in the past wanted it more often and recently lost interest? Or, was it that she was always like this? Bear in mind, they have been married for about three years.

He said that he spoke with her about it, and she said she just has little drive for it. I asked him if she experienced orgasm, and he responded that as far as he was aware, orgasm was not common for her, despite his best efforts using all the modalities of stimulation. (I don’t think I need to spell them out, as I think you are fully aware of what they are).

At the end of it, I told him that the frequency was indeed low. And, though quality is better than quantity (which he fully agreed with) that he needs to go over the matter again with her, in a very understanding way. Also, I recommended a counsellor as long as she was willing.

Whether you agree or not, the way I see it (and I am no authority on marriage, as I’m not yet wed myself), sex is very important in any union. Though sex is not the only thing that should use to hold a marriage together, it plays a pretty serious role, particularly when the couple is younger. Indeed, it can result in breakdown of the union as it can result in one (or both) parties seeking sexual gratification elsewhere. I dare say, if I was married, I doubt that every four weeks would keep me happy. What do you all think? Because of the nature of the discussion, if you feel to reserve your comments, I’ll understand. Once a month??? I don’t think so!!

On the other hand, I have recently met a guy of similar age who is now divorced. He has no shame to relate that the reason why his marriage ended, was that he came to discover that his wife was indeed a nymphomaniac! He said that when they first married, he thought that it was heaven. Sex every night, sometimes three times per night. Then he expected that the ‘novelty’ as he termed it, would wear off over time. It did not. He said she needed it EVERY night, and after a while he did not enjoy it as she wanted it ROUGH. Going home he said, was no longer anything to look forward to after work, because he knew there was more WORK to be done. He started staying at work late, or going out for a drink to delay arrival at home. He said he eventually realised that he could not satisfy her wanton appetite. She subsequently started having sexual affairs with two other men, to supplement what she was getting at home. She actually confessed this to him and admitted that she realized that her appetite was indeed abnormal.

This guy says he would get married again, BUT, he says he would be quite happy to meet a woman who only needs to have sex once per month. Hey! Maybe I should introduce this guy to my starved eczema patient!! Perhaps they could exchange wives and then everyone would live happily ever after! Or at least, I hope so. Comments??

Thanks for your concerns

Hey there Seven and Laura thank you for your concerns. I am doing fine and well. What can I say? Part of life, right?! Better days will come for sure.

Happenings…..and some Tech thoughts.

I’m not going to chat for too long as I have to get up early tomorrow as I am giving the Leprosy talk tomorrow, and, I want to give it another run through before I go to bed tonight.

This morning, I got up early as I found I could not sleep after about 5:00 AM. So, I was watching CNN for a few minutes on the TV, but there was just too much repitition about the developments with the sniper suspect case, that I got bored, so I turned the set off and came to the PC. Unfortunately, it seems my ISP was having server problems. Every site I tried to hit resulted in, “Cannot find server.” After many futile attempts, I cussed some claat and shut down.

Nothing much is happening otherwise. I got my car back yesterday. The damage that the fool who rearended me had made, has now been remedied. I did not realise how much I had become attached to my Integra. I was renting a little Corolla that had no power and shocks that were more like mattress springs. I hated it. Thank God I got my wheels back.

Isn’t it amazing how we can become attached to the little comforts that we take for granted or become accustomed to in life? Our cars, our computers, electricity, a telephone. You know what I mean, right? It made me think. Didn’t we survive before technology came along? We don’t HAVE to own a cellular phone, do we? But, because we are introduced to the technology, and the good things about having it, we have one. And, man do some of us become servants to technology. I must admit that I have become a bit ruled by blogging and the net. Anyway, I’m not pathological. I do believe that I am right in saying that the Psychiatrists have come up with a diagnosis called Internet Associated Disorder. It has criteria in order to make the diagnosis. Hope I don’t get there, but, then again, I think I am too much of a non-geek for that.

By the way. wKen is back from his blog holiday. Go welcome him back if you like. Blogland was not quite the same without his posts.

Anyhow, I have beat my gums up enough and just rambled along. So, hear what? Me gaan! More time.

Making a brief appearance

Posted in Uncategorized on October 29th, 2002 by Rufie

Hey guys, I know it’s been a while since all or any of us have written anything, but bear with us. We’re not into the ‘blogging’ thing like you all are! I should correct myself and write, ‘not as avid bloggers as you all are.’ I know that you both fully understand and naturally forgive us, so it’s ok, right!? )

Right now I really have nothing much to say, or at least nothing that I’d consider important enough to share, but here am I.

I am completely happy that the authorities have caught up with the snipers and have them in custody. Did you hear that they caught John Lee Malvo trying to escape? Yes, he was contained in the jail and was found climbing the walls like a spider? What a sight to see! Too little too late.

I can understand that he didn’t have a very good life coming from Jamaica and then going to Haiti (I believe) and then stowing away to the US. He grew up in public hostels and such - that’s where he met up with John Muhammad! Can you imgaine that his real father hasn’t seen him since he was four (4) years old!? My gosh - he really needs some guidance, but that’s life! I believe that they both will get what they deserve!

I am leaving that particular subject and am posting something quite personal. I wrote about my impending pregnancy, but I have since lost it and just wanted to let you know as I received congratulations from so many of you. I am happy and ok now, back to my ol’ self - no more cyring and sadness as I got lots and lots of support from my husband - Marc Antony and my from brother Dr D - they are wonderful, strong and good men and I am so glad that they are in my life ) God bless them!

Anyway, I don’t really have much more to say, so until another time. I will certainly make an extra effort to think about a post and will blog as soon as I possibly can ok. God bless you all and take care of yourselves.

Where do these types come from?

Posted in General on October 27th, 2002 by Dr. D

I read this while surfing the net today. I pondered for a while. He is only 18 years old. What is it about the world today that is breeding these malignant types?? This delinquent, Malvo.

It seems to me there is no longer any place in the world where you can live and truly consider yourself safe. Is there any good news? Sigh.

Mad Cow Disease takes Jamaican in U.S.

Posted in General on October 26th, 2002 by Dr. D

The first case of Mad Cow Disease to be diagnosed in the U.S. has occurred in a Jamaican. I read this sad story this morning. This rather attractive Jamaican young woman apparently contracted the disease Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy(BSE) while growing up in England. She left the U.K. at age 12 and migrated to America. Recently, as a young adult she has been diagnosed as the first case of BSE in the U.S. Naturally, her family is quite distraught as this illness is fatal. I hope that her family will be able to spend some quality time with her, but it will not be easy in the long run to cope with such emotional trauma. I hope that God will grant them the strength to accept what is to come. Sad stuff.

In the year I was in England, I do not think I ate beef twice at all. I was most careful, despite the fact that it was cheap (naturally, it was not selling!) Nowadays, even though we do not have Mad Cow Disease here (as far as I’m aware), I scarcely eat beef at all. Mostly chicken, sea food and pork.

I am going to end with a little joke directed at ……who else, my bredren who got me into blogging! Here goes.

I have now started to think that since Mad Cow Disease exists, there seems to be a new varaint developing called Mad Bull Disease! I think I have diagnosed the first case in my bredren unfortunately. (So I guess we do have it here!) This is hot off the press, I wonder if I can get a reputable Medical Journal to accept this information for publication?? One only needs to read this yute’s blog and you’ll be quite convinced that he is mentally screwed up!! Jus cool my yute. After all what are bredrens for??? Cool vibes all.

Bronzed celebrity body parts!

Posted in General on October 26th, 2002 by Dr. D

I was reading the Gleaner this morning. I came across an article entitled ‘Celebrity body parts for sale.’ The story is about the sale of the bronzed body parts of celebrities by auction in Paris, in order to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Not all were in bronze mark you, some were in gold, silver and ivory!

The bronzed ass of singer Jenny Frost (thonged might I add, ) is going for 1,000 pounds. The silicone enhanced breasts of Meg Matthews, a high profile London Public Relations Executive, are going for 520 Sterling.

It got my dirty little mind thinking! No apologies there bredrens, my testosterone levels are just as high as any normal male! I wonder how much they would be able to auction off a replica of Sean Michaels’ lengthy erection in ebony for??? I can see the women scrambling over each other to bid!! Or, on the other hand, how much would the males be willing to wager on Asia Carrera’s pubic region??? Bwoy, dat one could get my money still………….Anyhow, those of you who wish to see the body parts that have been put on the market, can check this link! Sorry folks, bidding closed yesterday.

Thought I would take your minds off the Malvo sniper stuff and get into some hardcore for a change. After all, we all have to live a little sometimes!!!

He is a Yardie!!! Arrrgh!!

Posted in General on October 24th, 2002 by Dr. D

Well, last night before it was all over the news, I recived an e-mail from a Jamaican friend living in the U.S. saying that the Police had two suspects arrested in association with the sniper shootings. We both could not believe it! It is now confirmed. The younger of the two suspects is from Jamaica. Poor us. Such publicity does NOTHING to uplift the tarnished image that our country has in the foreign press. Sad indeed.

What I would like to ask them is why they did this. If you wish to, you can get some more details about the story by clicking here. One can only begin to wonder about the extra scrutiny that we will be exposed to by U.S. immigration at the airports! We really do not need this. Anyhow, should they be found guilty, I know that they will pay for these evil deeds they have done. That’s it for tonight. A sad day for our island home. BOMBO CLAAT!

Lots of chat about…….

Posted in General on October 23rd, 2002 by Dr. D

The title here says it. I still don’t have a post. That happens in blogging. Sometimes I wonder if it is not something that one should take a break from at times. The thing about it, is that when the going is good and the comments are flowing, it can be pretty enjoyable. Anyhow, here goes.

I had a routine day at work. I am sure I diagnosed another patient with the HIV virus at work today. He has a viral skin infection called Molluscum contagiosum which in adults in this day and age is almost considered a marker for HIV. In addition, he has palpable lymph nodes and he admitted to being homosexual and he has not taken the necessary precautions. If his test indeed proves positive, my impression is that he will not handle it well. He will need counselling, his psyche seemed very fragile to me. Medicine in 2002 I guess.

On the news a while ago, I heard that Pfizer, the company that makes Viagra is going to court. Why? Well, it is to protect the $1.7 BILLION U.S. in sales that this wonderful drug brings them each year. They want to ensure that other manufacturers cannot get into the market with similar drugs, but I know that there are already others out there. It only proves how much money there is to be made out of the pharmaceutical side of medicine. It is BIG business with STIFF competition, and, I guess that since it is Viagra that started this discussion, that’s a pun! Well, no apologies there, you know me already, always looking for a laugh.

Anyhow, I have no links to lead you to and rather than continue to just beat around the bush and not say anything, let me leave you all ’till next time. Cool vibes.

Not a post IMHO…

Posted in General on October 23rd, 2002 by Dr. D

This is just a little entry to let you all know that I am still around but haven’t found anything that I feel to talk about. The sniper is still doing his (her) evil deeds and rather than blog about it, I feel it is time that they nailed the prick. Too many people have been hurt/killed!

Last night, I was thinking about posting and found myself feeling very tired, I feel asleep in front of the monitor. As a result I shut down the computer and turned in. I now know why I feel so tired, I have a cold! I don’t know if you all realize how much I hate being ill, anyhow, I am doing the necessary.

On local news, PJ is to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third term today. The swearing in will take place this evening at 5PM at Emancipation Park. I won’t bother to watch.

I had the pleasure of passing by the park yesterday while driving. It was the first time I was seeing it in daylight. I was impressed. Let’s hope my people will have the decency to keep it clean and tidy. I won’t even bother to suggest what some of them may do to it.

I haven’t told a joke in a while. So here goes. (I hope you find it funny, actually, I was just being my usual self and the person who it was intended for, found it quite funny.)

A few days ago, a friend who sometimes comments on this site (not Mad Bull) called me to say that he wants me to ‘doctor’ his face, as he seemed to be getting a breakout of Acne, something which he has not had since his teen years. He went on to say that it was impairing his good looks. I responded, “Good looks?? But you never had any to start with, so what’s the problem?” If you didn’t find it funny, it is no big deal really, life I suppose. Have a good day and I will see if I can come up with something that I feel equates a proper post later.
