Lots of chat about…….
The title here says it. I still don’t have a post. That happens in blogging. Sometimes I wonder if it is not something that one should take a break from at times. The thing about it, is that when the going is good and the comments are flowing, it can be pretty enjoyable. Anyhow, here goes.
I had a routine day at work. I am sure I diagnosed another patient with the HIV virus at work today. He has a viral skin infection called Molluscum contagiosum which in adults in this day and age is almost considered a marker for HIV. In addition, he has palpable lymph nodes and he admitted to being homosexual and he has not taken the necessary precautions. If his test indeed proves positive, my impression is that he will not handle it well. He will need counselling, his psyche seemed very fragile to me. Medicine in 2002 I guess.
On the news a while ago, I heard that Pfizer, the company that makes Viagra is going to court. Why? Well, it is to protect the $1.7 BILLION U.S. in sales that this wonderful drug brings them each year. They want to ensure that other manufacturers cannot get into the market with similar drugs, but I know that there are already others out there. It only proves how much money there is to be made out of the pharmaceutical side of medicine. It is BIG business with STIFF competition, and, I guess that since it is Viagra that started this discussion, that’s a pun!
Well, no apologies there, you know me already, always looking for a laugh.
Anyhow, I have no links to lead you to and rather than continue to just beat around the bush and not say anything, let me leave you all ’till next time. Cool vibes.
October 23rd, 2002 at 9:53 pm Sorry to hear about your patient today.
October 23rd, 2002 at 11:49 pm Dr D,check out www.dlowe.blogspot.com for a veiw of the pharm industry from the inside. In his note today he addresses the pfizer lawsuite and says in effect that it takes a lot of balls to make their claim.his blog is titled “lagniappe”. By the way the last sniper victum in Maryland was identified as being from Jamaica in the Washington Post I am sorry to say.
October 23rd, 2002 at 11:57 pm Will make the link Richard. Nice to hear from you, haven’t seen a comment from you in a while. Don’t test Pfizer either, they have nuff balls indeed and the kind of money they are making can make them ’stand firm’ in the courts!
October 24th, 2002 at 1:19 am Your post made me laugh. Maybe you should have nothing to talk about more often.
October 24th, 2002 at 6:56 pm Well, I must say that I agree with Melissa. You do pretty well for a guy that has nothing to post about.
Re the “WONDER” drug, I hear that the a lot of its users are young men with something to prove, not just the older men who Pfizer expected to be its market. Interesting, huh? I wish I’d come up with that drug to rass!!!
October 24th, 2002 at 9:26 pm Hey, Doc, give yourself a break. There’s no obligation to post - and you don’t get penalized for taking a break (or posting lighthearted stuff). I read your blog because your posts are entertaining and informative. Regardless of whether you post once a day or once a week, I’ll still come here when I can and read what you’ve written since my last visit. But that doesn’t obligate you to put anything here just because you know I’m going to visit. Don’t pressure yourself because you have an audience. Those who enjoy your posts will come here. (note: when you make it a “chore,” it becomes harder to find things to discuss…) BTW…the victim wasn’t from Jamaica, it was the 17 yr old that they caught with the sniper (accomplice/material witness?) that was from Jamaica… John Lee Malvo http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/South/10/24/malvo.profile/index.html
October 24th, 2002 at 10:42 pm Blue Wolf, you are correct about the Malvo guy, BUT, the last victim, the bus driver that was killed was indeed also from Jamaica! Unfortunately, the Malvo fellow does not do anything to improve the image that Jamaica holds in the foreign media at the moment. Sad to RASS!
