He is a Yardie!!! Arrrgh!!
Well, last night before it was all over the news, I recived an e-mail from a Jamaican friend living in the U.S. saying that the Police had two suspects arrested in association with the sniper shootings. We both could not believe it! It is now confirmed. The younger of the two suspects is from Jamaica. Poor us. Such publicity does NOTHING to uplift the tarnished image that our country has in the foreign press. Sad indeed.
What I would like to ask them is why they did this. If you wish to, you can get some more details about the story by clicking here. One can only begin to wonder about the extra scrutiny that we will be exposed to by U.S. immigration at the airports! We really do not need this. Anyhow, should they be found guilty, I know that they will pay for these evil deeds they have done. That’s it for tonight. A sad day for our island home. BOMBO CLAAT!
October 24th, 2002 at 11:57 pm Poor Dr. D. It’s okay most people are aware that one bad apple does not a whole country make. Or tree. Man I gotta keep up with my metaphors.
October 25th, 2002 at 10:17 am Although I cannot in all honesty say that I am a supporter of the death penalty, in this case, it would be better to give this boy that than to deport him - God Forbid!!!!!! That is all Jamaica needs now - a sniper!!! We’ve had more than enough to deal with, what with the thousands of criminals that have been deported from the US and Canada over the last several years. This is another sore point with us Jamaicans, because in many cases, these people migrated to North America at a very early age - thereby becoming a product of the society in which they grew up! They have learned a far more sophisticated form of criminal activity than we had ever been exposed to before - and our police force has been FLOUNDERING!!! The number of execution style killings have increased - both in terms of numbers and cruelty, the number of kidnappings has risen from a point close to zero, to more than we hear about in the news, and then, there is far more activity between Jamaican druglords and their Colombian counterparts - largely due to the relationships built while the deportees lived here in North America! So, please, keep this one - because this would raise the crime level in our tired little island beyond the realms of the ridiculous!
October 25th, 2002 at 10:20 am As to his being Jamaican - any of you ever heard the last name MALVO? I don’t doubt that this will increase the srutiny of Jamaicans in America - imagine the people who had lined up at the US Embassy for visas yesterday and today - they get in line from as early as 5am! I can just imagine that at some point, the news-story may have broken to those lined up! What a piece of crosses! I would have gone home - given up for that day - for the next week!!!!!! It’s hard enough without this madness!
October 25th, 2002 at 7:13 pm I didn’t even think about his being Jamaican, when I heard about it. I think people were mainly surprised that it wasn’t some militant white young loner. They weren’t even driving a white van that everyone kept looking for. I’m just glad that they were finally caught.
October 25th, 2002 at 8:24 pm Seven, I share your sentiments. However, the Malvo fellow is still a juvenile and I am not sure that they will be able to get the death penalty for him, perhaps life imprisonment. (I am no lawyer, so I cannot speak categorically or without equivocation!!
October 25th, 2002 at 10:45 pm Well, I think it is a shame and an embarrassment, and while the families of the victims may never read this, I will apologise on behalf of all Jamaicans and indeed as a Caribbean person, as I heard that the Mohammed one was from Antigua.
Please recognise that we Caribbean people are not all like that.
Thank God they caught the bastards, and all I can say is, if they miss the death penalty and are deported, tell us the flight number, we’ll make sure they are met right at the airport.
The little mofos!
October 25th, 2002 at 10:56 pm Doc, you have summed the whole matter in a few words, thank you. From the first moment I heard about the capture and the name and descent of the younger suspect-I have been anxiously waiting to read your thoughts. Although these men have committed a horrendous crime against humanity, Jamaicans should not be seen any different than Americans of European descent…ask Timothy McViegh and the citizens of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Hey Doc! Wish me a Happy Birthday today…
October 26th, 2002 at 10:02 am Folks, just some follow up comments. I caught the tailend of a report where a reporter here in the states tracked down Malvo’s relatives still there in Jamdown and interviewed at least one (either mother, aunt or cousin…I don’t recall)…..so while uncommon the name has legitimate roots there. The only Malvo I know or ever heard of is a political journalist here and she is black. MB, hadn’t heard the Antigua connection yet. Here they are saying Williams was born in Louisiana. Also, Malvo isn’t really Williams/Muhamed’s stepson. Williams “took him under his wing” years ago and the exact link is unclear. Malvo has been known by INS for years now to be here illegally. I doubt very much he will ever be deported. With regards the death penalty the US supreme court ruled that the mentally retarded cannot be given the death penaly but they refused to consider the case of juveniles so it is possible though unlikely but for one reason. There are now reports circulating that Malvo is quite likely older than is thought. The authorities are having trouble getting a copy of his birth certificate and there is speculation that he might actually be 19. If he is 19 and MD tries him first he will be spared because there is a moratorium on the death penalty there. He had better hope he doesn’t get tried in VA first regardless of his age….in VA dem no ramp (they don’t have any qualms) when it comes to administering the death penalty. Initially I thought the cops couldn’t understand Malvo because he spoke patois however CNN got their hand on a copy of one of the extortion letters he wrote and showed some of it. De bwoy illiterate as a bat.
October 26th, 2002 at 10:33 am Well, even though I doubt that deportation is likely as Tyroc has said, I think that Malvo had better hope to get incarcerated in the U.S….. de yute nuh waan fe experience OUR local prisons. First of all, I man sure seh de inmates dem out here would haffi bad him up after him carry our country name gone a foreign and disgrace it. One can only begin to imagine the hardships he would have to endure out here in jail……blood cleat….him betta hope seh dem keep him rass up deh!
October 27th, 2002 at 12:47 am As Melissa and wKen said…..and as I told you earlier…one man does NOT represent an entire country or people.
December 2nd, 2002 at 9:14 am Does anyone know wht time of day this gentleman was born? I must know. Please answer if you do.
