Big up Big Guy!

Posted in General on November 28th, 2002 by Dr. D

Yesterday at work, I was asked to see a 33 year old male patient on one of the Medical Wards. When I got to the Ward, I spoke to one of the Interns and told him who I was there to see. He looked at me and asked me if I was told anything about the patient’s size? I said not at all. He then said, “Well, trust me doc. Him large nuh rass!” I said that it really did not matter.

I went to the guy’s bed and introduced myself. Immediately, I got an idea of what he meant. This man was obese!! Anyhow, I got down to business and did what I had to do. In the end, we ended up chatting with each other and I found him to be a quite jovial and likeable individual. He is actually a Policeman, but because of his size, he now does strictly administrative work. I ended up chatting with him for about 20 minutes before making my notes in his docket.

Poor guy, all of his health problems, including the Dermatological ones are a direct result of his size. I felt a bit sorry for him, but he does not allow his weight to depress him at all. In fact, all the while I was there talking to him, he was making jokes about his weight. He said that he had told the same Intern that I had spoken to before coming to him, that he knew very well what his diagnosis was. I asked him to tell me. He said, “Ok, doc. Do you agree that you medics like to use abbreviations a lot for diagnoses in Medicine, especially when they have big names?” I nodded my head in agreement. He said, well, my condition can be abbreviated, T.F.F. I asked him what that meant. He replied with a laugh, “Too Fucking Fat!!” I almost fell off the chair at his bedside laughing.

Anyhow, I think I have made a new friend. Have you noticed that fat people are amongst the nicest people around, or is it just me?? Big up Big guy!! You are not bad at all. Just try to lose some of the weight, seen?

Time to unwind.

Posted in General on November 27th, 2002 by Dr. D

Oh boy, has it continued to be busy at work today. I am tired and ready to go on leave again!!! So, this is just a little entry to say I am here. Just finished typing some letters and now I am listening to a Kenny G CD to unwind before going to my bed. Right now I am yawning away and it is only 10 PM. Anyway. I hear my bed calling. Tomorrow.

Darkness looms….

Posted in General on November 26th, 2002 by Dr. D

It seems as if we may be facing darkness again if some sort of agreement is not reached by midday today. Read this Gleaner article and you will understand why!

Let’s hope that they can come to some sort of agreement, as I am sure that if they do not, power cuts will result. These only have a negative effect on our country’s economy which is already screwed! I am in solidarity with the workers though, as I understand that the new owners of our Light and Power company are some mean mfers!! They don’t seem to have much regard for the people who work for them. I detest that sort of management strategy. A company is only as good as its staff and if the staff are unhappy then production falls, morale is low and things go haywire.

Let’s hope we don’t have to be fumbling around by candlelight later tonight. Don’t stop the progress indeed. Tings looking dark to rass in Jamaica!

Payday!

Posted in General on November 25th, 2002 by Dr. D

Having nothing else that stimulates a post right now, I guess I have to mention that today was Payday. Yes, that fateful day when those of us lesser mortals who slavishly get up to reach work at some hellishly inconvenient hour when we probably could use another hour of sleep, look forward to with bated breath. Perhaps because if payday did not come, then life as we know it would be quite different (or might I say friggin broke!). Anyhow, I really am not complaining. I thank God for my job, as I have said it before, hard as work can be, the no work situation is screwed for want of a better word.

Anyhow, I was pretty busy at work today. It was my first day back ‘on call’ since returning from leave. As a result of the referrals I was seeing, I did not get to go up by accounts to collect my payslip. Anyhow, it is not a problem, the cheque is lodged to my bank account directly.

After this one, there is one final cheque to look forward to this year, and we are not paid a Christmas bonus. Cho! Nevertheless, I plan to make the most of the Xmas season. It is one of my favourite times of the year. Anyhow, tek care till next time! Seen?

Coital Cephalgia!?

Posted in General on November 24th, 2002 by Dr. D

Well, you live and learn. I decided to browse through some of our local newspapers today to see if I could come up with a post, an lo and behold, here it is!

I read this article from the Observer and nearly got a headache from the surprise myself. Now, I know the name sounds like a lot of medical jargon. But, in actual fact, when you dissect it, Coital refers to sex, Cephalic to head, and -algia to pain. Hence, Sex Related Headaches.

Now, I had no idea that such a thing really existed at all. In fact, I would probably want to think of some good sex as a means for helping to relieve a headache because the relaxation associated with orgasm helps to induce sleep. What also surprised me, is the part of the article that states that sex related headaches are more common in us GUYS! This they say may be related to the fact that we tend to get more physical than women when getting down to business. Hmm.

Well, like any good doctor, I guess I am interested in prevention and cure. Abstinence is said to work, but as we all know, this is not practical or by any means popular. Having to pop an analgesic pill about an hour before sex, if you ask me, seems a bit tacky. Then again, I guess if one anticipates that you’re going to get some action, it can be done privately without your partner knowing that you have to take it.

What of the part that states that post orgasmic headaches can last for up to a day after the pleasure itself? That seems so frightening to me……Now, men are always noted for quarrelling about not getting enough of the goodly stuff. We frequently mock our female partners by saying that we are greeted with, “Not tonight honey, I have a headache!” That may change to, “Not tonight honey, I’m going to get a headache if we do!” (I guess in this situation you’re ’screwed’ if you do, as well as if you don’t eh?)

To make a long story short, I always thought of sex as a way of releasing tension. And, speaking for myself, the only sex related ‘head’ache that I can remember having, is the throbbing one associated with NOT GETTING SEX! Comments, headaches anybody!?

Bloggers cramp!!

Posted in General on November 23rd, 2002 by Dr. D

Ever have one of those days when you’d really like to post (it is something to occupy your time) but you just can’t find anything that you consider suitable to talk about?? Well, today is one of those days. Funnily though, I have observed that the posts which I do not consider good, are frequently the ones that receive a hell of a lot of comments. So, guess what? I don’t consider this a great post, so I EXPECT you all to comment. OK!

Right now, I feel as if I could use a drink. So I’m going to hold a fresh and don some clothes and hit the road. Have good Saturday nite all! Whatever you do!

Pharmacy held up!!

Posted in General on November 21st, 2002 by Dr. D

I guess the fact that Viagra is being stolen from a pharmacy in a similar manner to a bank being robbed for money, proves how important it is for a man to get hard to enjoy a good roll in the hay. The tablets are pretty expensive, so perhaps this guy is operating a sort of black market. Who knows? He may benefit from a website called gethardcheap.com!! How I wish I had discovered the wonder drug. Man, I’d be sitting on some pretty ‘hard’ cash now!!

Senseless!!

Posted in General on November 21st, 2002 by Dr. D

I read this article today and it made me realize that it is not only here in Jamaica that we have the senseless loss of precious human lives taking place. I really am not one to fight people for their religious convictions as none of us really knows which is the right religion. But, something seems pretty amiss with a lot of the beliefs that some worshippers of Islam practice. To think that at least 50 have been killed on account of the Miss World beauty contest. Right now, because of all the controversy that has been following this one, if I were one of the organizers, I would suggest that we cancel it this year. After all, will we really miss not having a Miss World for a year???

Caribbean Sunset

This is a photograph of the sunset that I took while travelling from St. Lucia to Grenada on Air Jamaica . I like the picture very much and it is a true image of the rather spectacular sunsets that we have in the Caribbean. Please enjoy it.

I have more photos of scenery from Grenada to post, but I may have to wait until the weekend to do them justice with some descriptive text. Look out for them. BTW, I am back at home safe and sound, and WORK resumes tomorrow!!! I can’t even think about it.

They do not deserve it!!!

Posted in General on November 20th, 2002 by Dr. D

I decided to give the Gleaner on line a read this morning as I return home later today. I came across this story and it annoyed me! Why? Because they have already been granted a salary increase in the last six months and, there they go again.

I am one of the doctors that works in the public sector. We have been granted a small salary increase for the April 2000-2002 wage contract period (the increase was in the single figures in tems of percentage as far as I remember), but, we have not yet seen it reflected in our cheques. We have been promised it starting in January of next year. Also, this means that we are due for retroactive pay. I do not know when this is to be paid. But, they have gone ahead with their increases and indeed, put themselves first! Fuckers!

They do not deserve it. In fact, if their wages were based on quality of performance, what they should really get is a rass cut in salaries. I don’t know. Our country has been shafted with a 20 foot BIG RAHTID BAMBOO!!! Is this the government that indeed claims to PUT PEOPLE FIRST??!! Which people? THEMSELVES!!!!!
