Good folks…
While having my morning cup of Earl Grey tea just now, I came across this article. I found it a refreshing change with all the crap that has been taking place recently. I also related well to it because I have fairly frequently forgotten money in the pockets of my clothing and my housekeeper has never taken it.
I do believe that as screwed up as the world may appear to be today, there are more good people around than bad. I have met others who think differently who feel that the forces of evil and bad folks prevail. I can’t be that pessimistic, I’m sorry to say.
Recently, a gay male patient that I have in my private practice, came to see me on account of perianal genital warts. In order to examine him, I told him to remove his pants and underwear. He glared at me and brightly informed me that he does not wear underwear at all. So I asked him if that was his choice. He said yes. He then told me that, “Freaks rule the world!” This he said with a rather sheepish grin on his face. I responded by saying to him, “I beg your pardon, but I am no freak, and I am in charge here. Freaks do not rule the world!”……… Then again, with some of our world leaders, one wonders if he was not indeed correct…….
Do you feel that the world has more bad than good people in it? I don’t, but feel free to comment as I like good constructive discussion. Well, I am on call this weekend, but, the consolation is that I am going away next Thursday. Something to look forward to. TGIF!!
November 1st, 2002 at 8:29 am Thanks for the thought and sharing the information about the Dan Rather article on ‘good folks.’ Its a timely reminder indeed of the prevailing goodness of most people, and I am especially reminded of all my Georgian classmates - baring none, who have so readily demonstrated the spirit of goodness illustrated in Dan Rather’s story. May all readers out there find the goodness today that frequently goes unnoticed in our maddening rush to keep pace with the world.
