Pets - we love them so!!

Goodness guys, I can’t believe the response I got from the one little post - thanks for the support! I believe I will do my best to keep it up ) A special thanks to Desiree and Jamie who made it to the site via my bro - Dr D!!! He is special isn’t he?

Well, inspired by Jamie’s four (4) dogs, I decided to do a bit of a post about pets in general….I am definitely a dog, cat and tropical fish lover. Currently I don’t have any pets here with me ( but that’s another story!! I do, however, currently have two (2) dogs in Jamaica living with my bro and my father (even though they may be under the distinct impression that the dogs belong to them now - hah!) - they are just the most special and the kindest animals I’ve ever come across, at least I think so!!! Anyway, one is a runt and another is a mix of Yellow Lab and I’m not sure what else, but she’s my fave! She was actually gift from my mother’s boss just a bit before she got sick, but not to worry she was a great comfort to her sometimes for sure. Her name is Suzie Q - this name came about because Dr D and I had her in a basket with old bath towels to keep her warm when she was a pup and were in the midst of deciding where to place her temporarily and were talking to each other to make the decision only to see the pup looking up at us quite inquisitively and ‘talking’ without opening her mouth (kind of mumbling sounds), hence the name came about - Suzie Q!!! She’s very nosy in a nice way though, she’s what you’d call a dog with great interest! She’s very yellow in colour, has the nicest black coal eyes and nose and loves to snuggle, she’s very warm and sweet and has a very pretty face - I love her so! If you don’t believe me then ask Mad Bull Jr!!! He will concur I am sure ) I loved to give her baths as she smells so nice afterwards and then is able to come inside and sit with me under the desk with the computer quite comfortably, as well as, sleep on the carpet in the bedroom. She’d sometimes like to stay outside at nights and ‘make her rounds,’ after doing so, she’d stop by my bedroom window and bark until I finally opened my window to ’speak’ with her - she’s a true treasure and has given my family and friends lots of love and laughter. Not to worry I am going to speak of the other dog as well, but still not finished with ‘Sue Sue’ as she’s affectionately known to us all! Dr D loves her just as much as I do, so when the days are hot (as they usually are in Jamdown) Dr D would turn on the water sprinkler so that Sue Sue could do her water ballet - the sprinkler spins around and around and so does she - it’s a pleasure to watch her as she loves the water more than the land! She’ll also play fetch as long as you can endure, she has the stamina to match and exceed your own for sure. I can’t express how much I miss her, it’s just amazing. For all of you who have dogs or have had them, then you know that look of when you come driving home and open the car door and have your special dog(s) jump in your lap - your day no matter how bad it was just got great again - I just love their loyalty - they’re just great aren’t they?

Ok, the other dog we have (the runt) is Friendly! He was a stray, but was always so gracious and nice - never barked, but was so gentle and exceedingly friendly with everyone, so much so that everyone remarked about his friendly nature, hence the name, ‘Friendly.’ Friendly used to come around once in a while when we didn’t have any dogs at all, but when we got Sue Sue, he was there everyday and they became friends for true. So, I decided that Suzie was to be spayed and Friendly would have to be neutered in order for them to remain together - everyone said that I shouldn’t separate them as they were really platonic friends, so I didn’t and they are still there together today! Not to worry, I bathed Friendly too and he loved it as well, he didn’t squirm at all like - he is really well behaved - we love him just as much and he does his job very well! What job you ask? To be a comfort to Sue Sue )

There is another dog next door that practically lives at our house too - he really loves the company of Sue Sue and Friendly, too. I’m not sure what type of doggie he is, but he’s certainly mixed as well - his name is Algeron, Algie for short (pronounced Aljie) - don’t take my word for it…Dr D tells me that Algie is there everyday without fail to see our doggies, too. Algie actually belongs to my friend Baby modda who now resides in the US as well as I do.

I should add that I had a very beautiful male cat - he died in 1998 or 1999 I think! Dr D was in the UK at the time, maybe he’d remember the year better than I would - enlighten me Doc ok. His name was Smoky, he looked just like the name implies…he was all grey and very furry, with a seriously furry tail to match and trust me when I tell you that he knew he was looking great! That cat had an attitude and and air of superiority boy! Talk about feline superiority complex (not inferiority)!! We had him neutered and it did nothing to quell his awful temperament…I’d have to warn visitors not to play with him as he loved to scratch - he definitely wanted to be left alone…he only wanted to be fed and that was it. I had him for thirteen (13) years and he got older, but I didn’t think he was losing his agility, but some dogs in the neighbourhood got him and they beat/bit him up and I took him to the vet and all, but as I placed him in my room with a blanket and went outside to get some medication he left and I didn’t find him again for three (3) days of calling out his name. Finally my gardener found him under one of our fruit trees……I cried so much as I really loved him. I still miss hearing him purr and snore, too. He was very overweight and would snore loudly (he’d not eat anything other than meat) - it was so hilarious to listen to him snore though - amazing how like us they can be!? Anyway, Dr D is really the one who loves the tropical fish too - he always had his fish tanks looking quite impeccable and pristine! I was always (getting in the way, so he’d said!) so I had to just sit and wait to see the end product. I love the algae eaters (sucker fishes) and still do, but doc hates them - I love the ones with the spots, they are so slippery and quiet…doc says they resemble tadpoles - out of order and feisty! Well with all that said, drop me a line and tell me about your pets and fave animals ok. Doc, if you remember any stories of Sue Sue - do tell, too ok. Didn’t mean for the post to be so long, but I enjoyed reminiscing while typing ) Have a great day guys, if there are many typos forgive me ok!

Suzie and Friendly are fine. Just in need of a bath. The fish tank is still pristine. I have no suckers now! Maybe I will see if I can post a pic of the dogs for you as a comment. But, I am sure that I will have to get some help from Mad Bull. I am glad that you enjoyed the memories, and I assume you will be coming this year to see the dogs again!

Hey Rufie, two days in a row!!! Anyway, I wont get into MY pets on your blog, because, I have enough ammunition. I’ll tell you about your pets, ok? Smoky was SO annoying… coming and rubbing up on your leg non stop, but if you tried to pat him, he went all “Bush wanting to invade Iraq” on you. Whats that all about? Sheesh… Susie now! She effs up my duco. Everytime I drive into your house she rakes my duco from the car’s stem to its stern. Very annoying. Oh and Algae is no longer Algae, he is Allergy (courtesy of MB. Jr.) Friendly is ok, he really is fairly well behaved… I don’t mind him. In fact, any crap he does, he is led astray bey “Suzie Q”, but anyway..

Ahhh… pets, I love ‘em! I have 2 dogs currently, Rufie, both of them female. One is named Taffy and she is a Bichon-Shih Tzu going on 3 years old. We acquired her from one of my sons’ friends families last summer just after our first Bichon Shih Tzu was run over by a vehicle and killed. Our other dog was acquired in September of the same year, Karma, she was a baby, the result of a unplanned pregnancy of a Schnauzer, she seems to be Terrier mixed with Schnauzer. Both dogs are adorable and add a lot of life and happiness to our family, we were very devastated at the loss of our last dog, she was a mere year old. In the last year too between getting Taffy and getting Karma we did have another dog for 3 weeks, he was an adorable Basset Hound, but he was already 7 months old and not house trained, so he ended up going back to live with the Breeders family as he was not doing well with his feces and urine, making life very messy around here, he was used to being an outdoor dog with smaller amounts of time indoor - and we didn’t realize this until we had him a while. I love pets very much and on a visit this winter to the animal shelter I was so tempted to take home a cat, then a rabbit, or what about the adorable dogs needing homes?! I could have, but I realized that that could well cause relationship stress as my hubby is not wanting more pets, and he also is very very allergic to cats! So, I do well with the 2 dogs and 3 kids! Well… seeing how long it was between your post before the one prior to this and now it is amazing that you did do two days in a row Rufie! Nice meeting you and hope your interest in your web log keeps up!

Rufie, so how many comments you have got!! You must keep posting! We love it. I can’t wait to hear about the experiences with the types you may encounter on the new job! I can see the posts already.

Dearest friends, thanks so much for all the stories. So sorry about your loss Desiree, I know how it feels to lose a doggie. Never mind. You never know, you could bring home the kitty, as well as, some seriously strong antihistamines and make one large present of both items??? That’s a thought! Just playing devil’s advocate.. Thanks so much for your words. As for you Natty your blog name should be evil and not Natty, but I know deep down you’re a real canine and feline worshipper and are playing hard to get because it’s the that animals hate YOU and not you them!!! Yes Doc, I am trying hard and will do my best to keep up ok.

By the way Mad Bull, please stop blaming poor, sweet and defenseless Sue Sue for the shoddy paint job on your automobile. No, I am just joking I know she does that, but I didn’t realise that she was still doing so, but maybe if you stopped driving up to the door (for Natty’s sake) you wouldn’t have to park in the drive way and encounter Sue Sue antics - so the question is…do I love my wife more than my car? Just a bit of food for thought!!!
