Football feva!

Well, our friendly match against the USA team is less than two weeks away. According to this Gleaner article three UK based players have confirmed that they will be playing.

I have a patient at the hospital who was a fairly good ‘baller’ himself in the past and he came to clinic on Tuesday. So, after getting the medical stuff out of the way, we started to rap about the upcoming match. So, I asked him how he thought things would go. “Bwoy, Doc, it nuh look too pretty a rass, you nuh! I predict it will be another case of 4:0” (Our team was beaten by the Canadian team in a friendly 4:0 recently.) So, he is predicting a four-nil win for the Yanks! He then went on, “But, you must still come a de match, you know. Nice girls fe look pon and it should be entertaining football, nevertheless!”

So, what have all the football fans got to say? Mad Bull , you buy de ticket dem yet rude bwoy? Later.

I can’t even stand soccer. I guess it’s a good thing I don’t live in some contry like Spain, huh?

Kristi, I am not surprised that you ‘can’t even stand soccer’. It is really not a sport that traditionally was played in the US. Though in the last ten years or so, this seems to be changing. In the same way, I don’t care for American football in the least and really do not even try to understand the game. I guess it is all about tradition. Perhaps I’m biassed, but if you ask me, soccer is a far more interesting game with a lot more finesse than Yank football. But, then again, I don’t even care to watch the stuff, so what do I know?

My son use to play soccer when he was younger, he was pretty good at it and then feel in love with baseball!!! I like to watch football but that is only so I can compare backsides . But I do have to say, when I read “great baller”, I had to remember the difference in terms between us because that term brings on a whole different meaning here in the States
