BLESSINGS

I was sitting on my front step this morning, contemplating the 8th day of my quaratine due to the second SARS outbreak here in Canada. It also just happens to be my birthday. One of the restrictions for those in quarantine is that they cannot eat at the same table or in the same room as those family members who are not quarantined. Therefore, this evening Kidlet # 3 and I (the only ones in quarantine, because we had visited one of the hospitals that was later identified as a hot spot for the virus) will have to have our supper in separate room to the Popsy and Kidlets # 1 & 2.

I was at the point of becoming seriously depressed when I started to think of my blessings.

We only have 2 more days of quarantine to go! Kidlet # 3 and I are showing no signs of the virus. And it’s my birthday!!!

I have a husband who loves me dearly. The first of his birthday gifts to me was when he called me from work this morning to confirm when our first date had been. We met 19 years ago, and it took him 9 days to ask me to marry him. We just celebrated our 18th year of marriage last March. That he can be thinking of our first date today is a very special gift. He has been my rock during all of the many curves, hills and valleys that life has taken us through these past 18 years.

Kidlet# 1 - The Princess - is our special needs child. She has physical disabilities. She is a beautify person, both inside and out. A friend as well as a daughter. Her determination and sense of self is inspiring to many of our family and friends. She is going to bake my birthday cake today. I believe this will be the first cake she has ever baked.

Kidlets # 2 & 3 - the boys, are handsome, kind kids. For a mother, there is nothing quite like the feeling she gets when her children feel free to kiss and hug her and tell her that they love her (especially the boys - kissing at their age is definitely not cool). All my children can hardly wait until we can resume our kissing, hugging routine without masks.

My brothers and sisters are wonderful, loving people in their own rights. Our parents gave us their love and very happy childhoods. They taught us to love and respect each other and the world around us. We had always been a tightly knit family, but since the passing of our Father in April, we have become even more close. The connection is amazing! I am also fortunate to have a great “in-law” family, who are supportive and loving and have been so since the first day we met.

My first two birthday greetings (outside my immediate family) came from two friends. The first was from a friend who lives just around the corner from me.
She phoned to wish me happy birthday and to tell me that herself and another good friend had decided to go out to breakfast to celebrate my birthday (had I not been quarantined, I would have been invited to come along) (smile). The second was from one of my best friends from school, who now lives in England. That she would have taken the time and effort to call has made my day!

The sun is shining brightly, the sky is it’s own beautiful shade of blue and the day is fairly warm. The birds are singing and my big, extremely furry, black dawg is outside, barking his head off (smile).

So I have no other course of action, but to decide that I am going to forget about being depressed, get out there in the sunshine and enjoy my birthday! I have gotten dressed in my favourite clothes (later I may even put on some make-up), I did my hair and I am going to have a great day!

and

I WILL REMEMBER TO COUNT MY MANY BLESSINGS!!!!

Have a great day y’all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! (blessing 1) YOU DONT LIVE IN A ZOO!(blessing 2) YOU DONT LOOK LIKE A MONKEY(blessing 3) JUST KIDDING! I remember how I realized that it is good to look at the blessings in life. When MB and I moved into our first apartment the laundry was at the back of the building and my apt was on the second floor at the front. Not being used to having to go out of the house to do laundry I kept forgetting things up stairs…eg. bleach..fabric softener etc. By the time I had to go up for the 3rd time ..i was frustrated and getting quite miserable and cursing to myself. When i went back to the laundry room..there was a lady in a wheel chair…legless from the hip hanging out her clothes on the line. Well, i said to myself. And i am the one cursing. It was a rude awakening for me. I hope you enjoy your birthday anyway and by tomorrow you’ll only have ONE more day to go!

Happy Birthday!!! Sorry about the quarantine, but like u said your blessings far outweigh the inconvenience. I know all about the joy that kids can bring, and I am constantly facinated by the differences in the personalities of my kids (I have 5….#5 is too small to clue me in on her personality just yet…. 2months old) Let me give u a sample…#1boy 15, gentleman, sweetheart #2 girl 13, fire, strong willed ..#3 girl 5, also fire, stubborn, but very loving.#4 boy 1 1/2, charmer…girls man, loves to kiss and hug, #5 girl…eats, sleeps…eats again May I wish you God’s Blessings on your birthday, on your marriage and God bless your kids.

Happy Birthday Ciya (again…..you seem to forget that I was the FIRST to wish you Happy Birthday from blogland…check back in your comments. Anyway, a nuh nutten! )Indeed, we all face problems, trials and tribulations in life. I look at mine and though at times I have become depressed or low, I try to deal with them. I may not be married and I have no children, but, I know that I have family and friends (who are like family) that love me (and vice versa.)Like you all, Rufie and I have become even closer since the untimely passing of our Mother, plus the fact that she no longer lives here. When we meet up, leaving is always harder than it ever has been. Living apart from your family is so sucked up! (Should that have been spelled with ‘f’?)Anyway, tonight I am meeting up with some of the guys I went to George’s with for a few, one of them Phleg, commented above, so we will definitely have a few for you. Nice to see that you have continued posting and I anxiously await your vitis to my site with NUFF COMMENT!!! Happy Birthday tes, after all!BTW, whatup? Where’s Seven in all of this??
