Well, that was what I thought when I saw this picture of the Northern Lights taken in Alaska. If you haven’t heard there was a huge solar flare that hit Earth on Wednesday of this week. This celestial spectacle in the sky above Alsaka is a direct result of this. I think it is beautiful and I wish I could witness it live. I have since I was a boy growing up, maintained an interest in Astronomy though in recent times it has waned. Any of you northerners seen anything like this? Have a good Friday nite all.

Mek sure you have the right numba!

Posted in General on October 31st, 2003 by Dr. D

Well, TGIFF bredrens, even though I will be on call tonight. Cho, things will be OK.

Picture this, it is about 1:30 AM Friday morning (I have to go to work the Friday), the house is all quiet, I’m in a deep sleep (you know what happens to any healthy man when he is in deep sleep, right, if not then I can’t help you….I’ll leave you guessing). The telephone starts to ring awakening me from sleep. Now, I was on call last night, so hearing the phone, I wondered, still half asleep if the hospital was trying to contact me (and if for some reason the pager company is having issues, which happened a few weeks back), so the hospital could be calling me at home directly. Or, worse, some relative could have been gravely ill or died….that is the sort of stuff that goes through one’s mind when the phone at home rings at that hour.

So, I stumble out of the bed and groping in the dark reach the passage that leads to my room where the nearest phone is (I don’t have a bedroom extension). I pick up and very grumpily say, “Hello.” On the other end, this rather young sounding male who sounds as if it is daybreak, “Hi, can I talk to Martin?” Instantly, I growl, “You have the wrong number!” I hang up and since I am awake now, decide to go hold a leak. I stumble back into the bed and pull the covers up over me, in a jiffy I’m back asleep. Moments later, the phone starts to ring again and awakens me. I allow it to continue and it stops after five rings. Then after a pause of about a minute, it starts again. On the fifth ring I answer again, this time, I am even more vexed, “YES!!” (no hello this time). “Hi, can I speak to Martin?!” My reply, “Me nuh jus done rass tell you seh you have de wrong numba!!?? Don’t call dis bombo claat numba again!!” Slams down phone!!

Listen people, when you call a persons home at that hour of the morning, instantly it makes the receiving person feel that some major crap has happened. Don’t just casually call at that hour, you are likely to get a man well riled up if you do. And then to have the gall to call again after being told it is the wrong number.

Anyhow, I rested nevertheless, so let’s hope today is not too bad at work. TGIFF indeed. Have a great weekend.

Two brides, one groom….

Posted in General on October 30th, 2003 by Dr. D

I wasn’t going to post anything tonight…as nobody thought of dropping a comment on my previous post. But is alright…..see me come back wid nuff energy. Resilient iyah!

Ladies…how would you like to have your sister and yourself get married to the same man in a simultaneous wedding?? Sounds unusual, doesn’t it? Read about the planned nuptial ceremony here. I guess the groom to be deserves some respect, I doubt that I would be taking both sisters on as brides. Hey a thought just crossed my mind…the double honeymoon!! (I am just being bad!)

Rude bwoys…what would you do if you asked a man for his daughter’s hand in marriage and he informed you that you would have to take her sister who is disabled to the altar as well??

On a different note, how many of you have ever tried a chocolate bar by a Belgian company called Lindt? Lots of nuts in it too. Mmmmm!!! A colleague at work told us that her Mother was coming home from England for a visit, so she asked if we wanted anything…this is what I requested, and she brought one of these huge bars. I used to buy them when I was in the UK. So, after some nice curry chicken, calaloo and rice for dinner, I am having the delectable dessert! Night all.

After posting this I see that Mad Bull was decent enuff to drop a comment inna de box on the previous entry. Respec my yute! You can hold a rum on de morrows.

Raunchy rambling….

Posted in General on October 30th, 2003 by Dr. D

Well, I overheard two women at work today (a doctor and a nurse) having a conversation over lunch. From what I could hear one of them was telling the other that she feels her husband is a sex maniac as he is ALWAYS in the mood. The nurse replied that she feels all men are like that. I didn’t say anything as they were not speaking to me, but decided to think that I agreed with her to a point. Most men I know are not going to turn down an opprotunity to get what Mad Bull has been referring to as Vitamin S lately. Actually, its not mi bredren that coined the term, but rather one of our Dee Jays Babycham. I rather like the term Vit S. Quite thruthfully though, I can’t agree that I’m always in the mood, but, once a month or less??!! Not a rass!

When you come to think of it, Vit S is a great way to get intense physical pleasure, to destress oneself and yes, it does help to induce sleep. Now I know that some of the ladies cuss about us dudes that fall asleep on the job, so to speak. That’s not good guys, its not all about having your big bang and then snoring. You must remember to share the Vitamin S.

I read an article a few months ago that indicated that the reason why it is that many rude bwoys fall asleep after a good come, is because we involuntarily hold our breath during orgasm…as a result of that we momentarily starve our brains of oxygen during the heat of the moment and as a result, we tend to feel sleepy after. Do you believe it? If you don’t, then the next time that you are taking your Viatmin S, why not make note of it. Yeah, I man will undastan if you can’t bother and jus waan do the work still.

It is just after midnight now, and I’m just getting back in and feeling a bit sleepy miself….. but before I leave, here is suppem else for those of you who may like getting Vit S in a 69 position not dat anyting wrong wid dat still. I found it at Yahoo’s Oddly Enough section. (Don’t forget to click to enlarge the pic!) Guess onoo can see dat me nuh have nutten to blog bout tonight. What can I tell you, man always chatting bout sex…nuh true? Anyway, I’m off to go hold some snores, and I hope all of you managed to get your dose of the goodly S Vitamin…if not, keep searching, when you find it I’m sure you won’t de disappointed. (Another one of mi rude bwoy posts and I haven’t even had a drink!)

A long day……

Posted in General on October 28th, 2003 by Dr. D

Bwoy, I am tiyad this mawnin. I had a very long day yesterday, I did not get to drag my tired ass home until well after 9:30 last night. On top of that me did well raw (I was very hungry), so I had a massive dinner at minutes to ten and this morning, I feel like the Goodyear blimp…well gassed up!

Honestly, if I did not have to go in to work today, I wouldn’t but, whoever said that life is ideal?? Anyhow, next week Tuesday, I will be outta here for a few weeks, so mentally, I’m programmed to next Tuesday morning when I jump into a Air Jamaica flight to Montego Bay where my journey to Aruba begins.

Incidentally, Montego Bay is where the phucking unrest is still going on resulting from the slaying of two apparently innocent civilians a few days ago by the Police. Please don’t feel I am cussing the people for continuing to demonstrate, they have every right to. It is just that invariably, whenever there is a standoff here involving the people and our security forces, things get screwed and you can expect injury or even the further loss of life. Me nuh defend dat (I don’t agree with that.)

Perhaps I should tell you that I am basically a non-confrontational type, and I avoid fuss and quarrel wherever possible. Plus, living in a country where there is continued unrest sets the mind on edge. Now, as I live in suburban Kingston, the happenings in Flankers and Canterbury which are at the other end of our country really have not affected the usual business of Kingston. However, I can’t (or should not) as a concerned citizen of our country just say ‘Screw it’ and go on about my business. It could be happening in my neighbourhood and affecting me.

Anyhow, I hope that things will calm down soon. I can’t chat for much longer (I don’t have the energy) and I am supposed be chatting up a storm in a few hours as I’m teaching some Physiotherapy students about some common skin infections this morn. Hmmmm, Physio usually attracts a high percentage of females….I wonda if any o dem look like dem could hold a spot on the ‘Natural Beauty’ spotlight of mi bredren Mad Bull’s site?? I guess even a well tiyad doctor can always use a little, Physical Therapy, shall we call it? (Bwoy, I must stop dis rude bwoy behaviour.)

Have a irie day all crew.

Rainy weather in Jamdown….

Posted in General on October 26th, 2003 by Dr. D

Yes bredrens, indeed a rahtid rain a buss again…making the land here a lush tropical green to behold. As you may have read here before, we have been having a very wet rainy season this year. The land is waterlogged. But apart from the weather being a bit glum, I have to say that the happenings in the country are as dark as the weather itself.

This is what greeted me on the front page of the Gleaner while having my cup of tea this morning. I shook my head and cussed under my breath…dis phuckery happening again, and again! When will it end? I can’t answer that. Does it reflect a lack of training on the part of our Police? Or, are they just predatory vultures waiting to attack prey? Please don’t get me wrong….their job is hard….I know I couldn’t do it. But I ask again….how much more tarnished does the image that the rest of the world has of us have to become? People think of us all as a barbaric set of hooligans who have no respect for human life…and, I can’t say I blame those who feel this way. No wonder that the holding of a Jamaican Passport immediately causes an alarm to go off in the head of any Immigration Officer in any half decent country. Because of the fact that a small percentage of our people become involved in the drug trade, crime and the like, the decent majority of us have to prove that we are what we say we are….decent.

How many innocents do our Police need to slaughter? Will anything come out of this and the Kraal incident (and all the others before)? I know some who say that even though things seem fishy, in time Kraal will just get swept under the mat. I hope not.

We depend heavily on tourism for foreign exchange. I can tell our government (for free I might add…and not any million dollar consultancy fee) that now that the US plans to lift the travel ban to Cuba for Americans that our tourism product a go suffah nuh rass! Just wait and see.

I have always considered myself a patriotic Jamdown bwoy, and even though I know things here are not perfect, I always stand ready to defend the good things about my country. After all, this place gives me my identity and it provided me with a decent education. But, maybe I am quietly thanking the Almighty that He has not blessed me with a yute (child) as yet, as I don’t see my country as a place that can provide a future for a child. Where do we go from here?

Right now, I’m actually chilling after dinner with a rum as I am here pondering my own future. What if I or someone close to me was one of these two innocent men killed? I would feel frig up bad. I need only to remember how badly I felt when my Mother passed away…and she was no victim of violence. The weather is very grim in this country and right now I can’t say that I fell like ‘bigging up’ my chest and saying that I am proud of what is going on here. Wha any o you haffi say bout dat?

Butt Hole Road…..

Posted in General on October 25th, 2003 by Dr. D

OK, as you can see from my previous post, I’m up to rude bwoy behaviour this weeknd. As I really don’t have a fart of consequence to post about, I came across this at Yahoo’s Oddly Enough section. Now, I suppose if your road was called “Butt Hole” you would probably get tired of assholes mooning you, and, people like the Pizza delivery man not turning up because he thought your order was a hoax leaving you to get all gassed up with anger!

Now, this little news article got me to thinking about the names that I have heard of that are very strange and often result in expressions of surprize when people hear them.

I met a man in the UK when I was there….Mr. Hoar. No, he wasn’t selling his wares. Enuff said.

I have a colleague here who says she has a female patient whose first name is Lesbia!! She apparently suffers no end of teasing on account of it. Now she is not a lesbian, but even if she was, were I her, I think I would change that one by Deed Poll. My colleague told me that when she saw her name on her file, she hesitated and went to the office door…eventually calling her only by last name as she did not want any of the other pateints who were waiting in the room to look at her strangely. I think that was decent of her.

I believe that I have also mentioned the name of a child that I was admitting during my Internship at Bustamante Hospital for Children here. When I asked the Mother what the child was called, she told me SATANIA! That was my response. I asked her why she could have named the poor child this, her reply, “Doc. She is the living devil!”

Do you know any weird names that you can share here??…And nothing is off limits.

On a different note, right now rain a buss again, but I plan to have a good Saturday. Hope you do too. Respec due to all crew!

Rum talks!

scenic.jpg

Yes bredrens! After my last post which resulted in a lot of comments (many thanks to all who contributed) and another hard week at work, it is that time to let it all (I won’t bother to tell you what) hang out and jus cool. So, I thought of pouring some Appleton VX and maybe jus chill out and watch some TV…but that didn’t do the trick.

So, I retreated to the sanctuary where my Dell is kept and booted up. Decided to check a site called wickedweasel and I came across this really scenic shot. Now, you all know how much I love pictures of scenery. This one shows the blue sky with a ‘rolling hill’ in the foreground. There is a shadow cast by one mountain ‘cheek’ against the other. Man, this is art…a masterpeice! I recently read a post of one of my British blog mates billy that was asking if people thought of graffiti as art. My response was that it is the person who is beholding the ‘piece’ that determines what is art and what is not. So, there may be some who may see this piece of art and think of it as porn, or offensive, but guess what, I love it caan done!! I think it is wonderful. Mad Bull may say that he has been successful at corrupting my blog. I beg to differ…he has helped to make it into an art gallery.

With those words of lust and wisdom, I man going finish mi drink and go draw two snore. Enjoy!

Feed or not….and a likkle suppem more

Posted in General on October 23rd, 2003 by Dr. D

Well, not having much to chat about tonight, I surfed Yahoo news and found an article, well two in fact, that I can use to stimulate some thoughts. I see that GW Bushy’s brother, Jeb has ordered that a woman who has been brain dead for ten years should be fed. Apparently a court had ordered that her feeding tube should be removed, but he has overturned the court’s decision and wishes it to be replaced.

Now the issue of ‘assisted death’ is, like abortion, a controversial one. I think what people need to bear in mind is that in these cases, quality of life is what counts. Life is not about being fed by tube, having a ventilator breathe for you etc. In situations like this, after a ‘reasonable’ time for improvement has passed, and there are no indications that recovery is on the way, I don’t think it unreasonable to decide as relatives to withdraw life support. Give the ICU bed to someone else who is likely to benefit from it.

In medicine, it is our duty to treat illness and to aim to offer a reasonable quality of life to a patient and their family. At the same time, we also have to respect the right of a pateint to die with dignity. No one needs/should have to suffer, if it can be avoided. Do you agree with me here?

Physically abused males…

Posted in General on October 21st, 2003 by Dr. D

I read a news article stating that Liza Minelli is being sued by her husband for six million pounds on account of physical abuse he claims she inflicted on him. The article went further to say that about 835,000 men are abused by women each year in America. Interesting. Do you think he will win the case??
