I saw this on the way home driving over Jack’s Hill to escape traffic and I just had to stop the car and capture it. I think it is a nice way to wind down the week of work. Don’t you? Please enjoy it and have a good weekend. (I’m off to a cocktail thingy at 7:30 PM, not really my type of affair but let’s hope it is OK.)

Lost to ra$$!!

Well, ask me WTF happened, I just wrote what I thought was a good post, and it seems like I fumbled and pressed a wrong key by mistake….and it lost to rass! I don’t have the time to retype it, so hear wha??? TGIFF. Later all.!

Female volunteers needed…..

Posted in General on November 26th, 2003 by Dr. D

Calling all ladies….. how would you like to test out a machine that could make you reach the heights of sexual pleasure…otherwise called an orgasm? Yes, the big O!! Well, the man who invented the orgasmatron seems to be having a hard time finding volunteers to test out his stuff. He expected to be literally flooded, but it seems you ladies are not as eager to get taken to the heights of sexual pleasure as he thought.

BTW, I wonder if wKen is going to file a suit against this guy??….If I recall correctly, he has been ‘resetting’ his Orgasmachron from ages back! The two names are very similar.

So, all of you ladies who haven’t had the flood gates opened in a while….go give the machine a test nuh. (I must admit though……13,000 pounds is lot to spend to get you all wet and wild. If you have a guy who knows how to press the right buttons, I’m sure that’s a far more cost effective option!) And if you do volunteer, do let us know if you endorse the invention! No need to be bashful….we all like to be taken to the point of no return every so often.

Short one before work……

Well, it seems hits and comments are down this week….perhaps it has to do with the fact that a lot of my readers in the US are preparing for Turkey day tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. What did you say??? My hits aren’t down as a result of Thanksgiving??? It is because nobody really wants to check the site….I’m boring?? Well, guess what? I remain undaunted….I continue with my boring posts.

Reading through the Gleaner this morning, I see that Bruce Golding has expressed the desire to succeed Mr. Seaga as leader of the JLP. The big question is, when the hell will Eddie give up the post? Seems that they too are unsure. He needs to do so now IMHO, otherwise he will screw up their chances of victory in the next election, similarly to what happened a year or so ago. It seems, however, that they realise that they need to get their act together if any good sense is to prevail. Trust me, if the present government wins the next election, I feel the red flag for immediate departure from this land that I love will have been raised! (And please don’t think that I feel the opposition is the answer to our problems. Just perhaps, the lesser of the two evils.)

To end, I found this on Yahoo’s Oddly Enough….would you like to get a voucher for a burger from your company as a bonus? Man, things must really be not too good in the financial sector at Air Canada! I guess it is not only us in the “Third World” that are feeling the economic pinch. Have a irie day at work.

Life’s pleasures….worth the wait?

Posted in General on November 25th, 2003 by Dr. D

Well, I’m not posting any picture with this entry….sorry to disappoint those of you who are enjoying them. Actually, I have more but lots of them show people who may not wish me to put up their faces on the net, so I have to respect that.

I was chatting to someone earlier (who lives in the US) and the discussion came around to plans for Thanksgiving. The person indicated that a trip was initially on their schedule….to spend time with family in another state, but apparently because of circumstances, the trip is on hold. So, I replied, “Well, I think we enjoy the pleasant thngs in life more when we have to wait for them to come into being.” (Within limits of course……there’s always the possibilty that we could die waiting for this event to happen!). Now it got me to thinking about the good things that happened to me in my life that I have had to wait for. I will try to share some of them.

Travelling to see family and friends. Now, to me, when a trip is planned for a holiday, half the fun is waiting for the day that the trip finally comes. And to me, nothing beats spending QT with family and friends. Waiting to go home after a long stay away…the thought of home by itself brings good feelings. Knowing that you will be met by people who wish you well with hugs and smiles.

I guess it would be negligent of me if I did not mention becomimg a doctor. Now I will be the first to admit that medical school was not always a joy….but the day that we received our final examination results, it made the almost five years seem so worth the wait.

Let me get off the personal stuff and think of others.

I can easily imagine just how much joy a couple feels after waiting for the nine months of pregnancy to pass, and out comes their little bundle of joy.

I have seen and experienced myself, the feeling of happiness that results when you have someone close to you who has been ill for a prolonged period, and the doctor who is caring for that person says that, “Things are looking good!”

To be out of work for a long time and find yourself in a poor financial state is also an undesirable feeling. So, to find a job after a long hunt and receive your first paycheque must also bring good feelings your way.

I suppose the adage, “Good things come to those who wait” applies here. However, on the contrary, life is unpredictable, and sometimes, there sre some people who do wait for pleasant things to come to pass, and misfortune rears its ugly head.

Pardon me if my thoughts seem a bit disjointed here. And so, before you all accuse me of chatting crap, I will end by asking you (if you feel so inclined) to say if you agree with my ideas here, and, if you have events in life that bring you pleasure that you have had to wait a while for, then share dem nuh. Have a good night.

Big up Jamdown!

I say that with great pleasure after reading this article which indicates that we are the Caribbean island of the year! So, I have posted a picture from our country. I took this shot from the window of an Air Jamaica flight after we departed from Montego Bay en route to Curacao, where I was intransit for a few hours before hopping over to Aruba…… a mere twenty minutes away by air. It was a bit of a cloudy afternoon, hence the picture is a bit dull, but I still think it is post worthy. This shows a section of the north coast of our island with part of the ‘Cockpit country” which are a series of rolling hills and valleys in the western end of our island that is made of limestone. So, when are you coming to discover our country??? I can imagine that those of you far north are beginning to feel the wrath of winter and it is sure to get colder. So, come soak up some sun nuh….after all, it is summer 24/7 here and now the nights are cool. I say it again, Big Up Jamdown. (Yeah, yeah, I know full well that all is not perfect here….but you can still have a irie time down yah!)

Ok, I admit I don’t have much to say tonight. So, with those words, I man a flash!

Sunday thoughts…

Grandetang.jpg

Well, I have just returned from the funeral….. you might remember that I had mentioned that my previous boss’ son was killed in Iraq this month. Well, he received military honours, the US Ambassador to our country was present and gave a short tribute. It was all very sad to me though, he was only twenty five. Also, being in the beautiful University Chapel (that is where I would like to get married, perhaps because the University has played a big part in my life since I first started studying there in 1983) got me a bit emotional under the circumstances. It brought back unpleasant memories of my Mother’s passing.

As a result, I am now here listening to one of my Kenny G CDs….so that speaks for itself…beautiful music to enrich the soul and inspire thought.

This picture was not taken in Aruba…in fact I took it in Grenada when I went there in November last year, it is of their crater lake the Grand Etang. The clamness of the waters are soothing to look at and perhaps inkeeping with my thoughts at this time. We were taken there as part of the island tour that was organized for us. I hope that the soul of this Jamaican-American soldier finds eternal rest and that his family will find comfort.

HOME SWEET HOME

Posted in Uncategorized on November 23rd, 2003 by Ciya

My brother Mad Bull is moving house and has posted about the homes we used to live in. This brought back so many memories for me that I am going to delay doing my typing a little bit to reminesce.

As I said in comment on MB’s site Orange Grove, in Stoney Hill, was my favourite house. In fact, when I was in Ja. in April, I got Natty to drive me up there to have a look at the house that we lived in there. It looked just the same and the memories came flooding back. (much as they are doing now.)

We moved to Orange Grove when I was 13 years old. I met my first boyfriend there…he lived just up the road. I started on my very enjoyable love affair with books in that house. Books are an extremely important part of my life. I LOVE to read. I remember lying in my bed in the room I shared with MB and Seven and reading and reading. I started smoking in that room too… only ciggies though.

I remember the very bountious cherry tree we had in the front yard and the bread fruit and eaty oaty apple trees in the back yard… Me nuh care how dat one really spell….I remember the first time we saw the house and it was simply magical to me and remained so till this day. I remember too the day we moved into the house. It had the largest kitchen I have ever seen in a house.

I learnt to ride a motor bike there… one of the neighbour teen boys taught me… I believe he probably had other things on his mind while doing this, because I distinctly remember threatening him to “accidently” drop the bike if he did not immediately remove his hand from its present vicinity. He was a creep but his bike was really nice.

We had a lot of fun in that house. Friends were always over… and all of our friends were always welcome… at least from my point of view and memory. I remember that we had a surprise birthday party for MB …was it the 16th MB?
You were so shocked!!!

Saturday nite….

Arubashore.jpg

Well, it is about 8:45 PM now according to the clock on the wall above my system. Here I am chilling out, and right now I feel pretty much like just enjoying the comforts of home. Perhaps with the recent travelling and having returned to work this week, I need to just relax at home.

See, I have posted yet another shot of Aruba, this one of the coastline with waves breaking and making a white ocean spray. It was quite windy there and it took a great deal of effort to steady the camera to take the shot.

You may have surmised by now that I haven’t got much of my own thoughts to share tonight. Another reason why I may feel like taking it easy is because I will be attending the funeral of the son of my previous boss tomorrow afternoon. You may remember that I had mentioned that his life was ended recently in Iraq. Very unfortunate.

Not having much to chat about I went and did a little surfing. I see that one of our female athletes, Deon Hemmings, who won the gold medal in the 400 metre hurdles in the 1996 Olympic Games, is calling it quits apparently on account of injury. I find no fault when people who have done well in their time step down with grace. I say to Deon, you did well and made our country proud. If you have to step down because of injury, then so be it. Your excellence will not be forgotten.

Last but not least….I’m sure you have heard of road rage and perhaps have been a victim of or even dished it out from time to time. (I can say that there have been times when the fassyhole that ‘bad drives’ me has had a barrage of our claats meted out to him! Nothing else really results in the same effect.) Then there came air rage. And naturally, as the computer age has impinged on our lives, there has come ‘Spam rage’. Apparently, a man who got pissed off by the barrage of penis enlargement e-mail that he was being sent let loose Spam rage on the senders of the messages. Read the little story here. I guess if he has a short dick he prefers to stay with it! I wonder how prevalent this sort of thing will become though?

Anyway, have a good Saturday night, even if it is spent just relaxing at home and sipping some of your favourite brew. Later.

It is Friday!

Aruba_aloe.jpg

I woke up this morning a bit disoriented. I lay in the bed with my eyes still closed but my mind was awake listening to the sound of the breeze blowing through the leaves of the coconut tree near my room window. I opened my eyes briefly and glanced at my bedside clock….6:05 AM. Rolled over and buried my face into the pillow thinking that I can sleep late as it is Saturday morning! Then I thought to myself a bit more….Rass!!….it is NOT Saturday, it is Friday and I have to go to work…as a matter of fact I’m teaching at 11:00 AM today. Oh well, stumble out of bed and go hold a leak and head to the kitchen to boil some water for my cup of ‘get me going’ Earl Grey which I am now having. The cool breeze is still blowing gently and the sky nice and blue, TGIFF! And Thanks to the Almighty for another day.

The picture above is of an Aloe vera field in Aruba. They cultivate Aloe there and export a number of Aloe products for the world market. This brings a reasonable amount of foreign exchange into their country. They make skin and hair care products from the Aloe and we were taken on a tour of the little factory.

The short trees interspersed among the aloe plants are Divi Divi trees which abound there…to me they look like large bonsai trees. They are all shaped by the wind and they don’t get very tall. It is an innovative little island and I feel we here in Jamaica could learn a lot from them. We are so much larger with so many more tourist attractions and natural resources and Aruba seems to be booming economically….their currency, the Florin, is 1.75 to 1 US dollar. What is our rate of exchange?? 60 Jamaican to 1 US dollar! Rass bwoy, we really are phucked! Where the hell did we go wrong? Anyway, I hope you like the shot…I’ll wait with bated breath to see what the abstract thinkers say this one reminds them of!
