HOME SWEET HOME

My brother Mad Bull is moving house and has posted about the homes we used to live in. This brought back so many memories for me that I am going to delay doing my typing a little bit to reminesce.

As I said in comment on MB’s site Orange Grove, in Stoney Hill, was my favourite house. In fact, when I was in Ja. in April, I got Natty to drive me up there to have a look at the house that we lived in there. It looked just the same and the memories came flooding back. (much as they are doing now.)

We moved to Orange Grove when I was 13 years old. I met my first boyfriend there…he lived just up the road. I started on my very enjoyable love affair with books in that house. Books are an extremely important part of my life. I LOVE to read. I remember lying in my bed in the room I shared with MB and Seven and reading and reading. I started smoking in that room too… only ciggies though.

I remember the very bountious cherry tree we had in the front yard and the bread fruit and eaty oaty apple trees in the back yard… Me nuh care how dat one really spell….I remember the first time we saw the house and it was simply magical to me and remained so till this day. I remember too the day we moved into the house. It had the largest kitchen I have ever seen in a house.

I learnt to ride a motor bike there… one of the neighbour teen boys taught me… I believe he probably had other things on his mind while doing this, because I distinctly remember threatening him to “accidently” drop the bike if he did not immediately remove his hand from its present vicinity. He was a creep but his bike was really nice.

We had a lot of fun in that house. Friends were always over… and all of our friends were always welcome… at least from my point of view and memory. I remember that we had a surprise birthday party for MB …was it the 16th MB?
You were so shocked!!!

We were not sure if you were going to pass out or what.
Things, however, were not always wonderful. We did have our ups and downs there. I was into the ….I have a right to do what I want, when I want …phase and so, I had a fair bit of downs too. I was the first child to get their own key, because I had to wait outside the house for about 2 hours one day when I got home before Dad.

Almost all of my boyfriends came to that house. And yes, times in that aspect where fairly memorable too….nuff said okay…..

I see that house as my ‘COMING OF AGE’ house. I remember it with joy and gratefulness for all the times spent there. What is or was your favourite home?!!!

I remember meeting Ciya at that house…I think you did have one of your many books in hand….my first impression was that you had attitude. I know this now to be untrue. As I have lived on this road for about 35 years I don’t have much to copmpare it with….so let’s say this place defines me in a sort of way. I can also recollect when MB and myself used to spend hours at each other’s homes when we were in high school, we used to lift weights and do the exercise thingy and then flex muscles in front of the mirroer after as we were ‘pumped’…other times we would jus chat crap…about girls, etc. (me more at MB than vice versa) and walking home in the wee hours of morning…try dat shit now….ahhh. Where did time go Ciya? Nice to recollect though.

Orange Grove, huh? It was pretty cool there, wasn’t it? But what rubbish was that in your comment to my post about me following you from tree to tree? Ludicrous!
