Christmas vibes…

Well, as I have said before, as much as I like the Christmas season, it seems to be over so quickly when one thinks of the amount of effort that goes into it. We had a nice dinner here with family and friends…about fifteen people. Then later in the night, others dropped by for drinks. After most of the others had left, I was having some drinks (there were quite a few of those I might add) with my two bredrens, and then it being almost midnight, the hunger hit. So essentially they decided that they needed to prove that they are both ham demons and they almost devoured what was left of it…..trus me, right now if I want to make a ham sandwich I am going to be carving close to bone! Never mind, all who had it, enjoyed it, its the camraderie that counts. BTW, if you think all we had for Christmas dinner was ham, you need to read further……..

No sah, we had roast chicken, escoveitched fish, ham, shrimp pasta, potato salad, candied sweet potato, baked ripe plantain glazed with honey and brown sugar, tossed green salad, gungo rice and peas. Dessert was Christmas pudding with rum sauce….and of course, sorrel and all manner of liquor flowed to make for a grand feast. Actually, I was so full that I could not hold dessert.

Then, I forgot to mention that at about 1:30 PM, just when I had finished preparing the shrimp pasta (yes, I can cook….but hate when it becomes a chore), I looked into the garage to notice that one of the car tyres was almost flat! Jus my luck to rass. Flat tyre pon Christmas Day! Anyhow, it had enough air to drive down to the gas station at Manor Park. (My Father’s advice was to drive to some place on Molynes Road where, “the bwoy dem will fix it in less than 15 minutes! Cost you ’bout $200.” Yeah, right!) I was pleasantly surprised to find that they did have a tyre man on duty at Manor Park. I put some air in it nevertheless, and while pumping it up I see the culprit…a nail to rahtid!

Anyway, as I was expecting company at the house and had to pop out, I called my cousin Sprigadee who was coming to my house with the rice and peas and potato salad. I get her husband, “Fish” dem call him. We greet each other and wish all the best for the season. Then I tell him that I’m calling Sprigadee to act as hostess in case I don’t get back in time because of my predicament, the nature of which I explain to him. He then laughs and says, “Rass, you get a jook (stick, prick) fe de Christmas! I hope that if any more jooking takes place for the season you will be the donor and not the recepient!” We both let off some raucous male laughter, but I told him that I certainly hope so.

Then, I get back home to get a call from a bredren who has locked the family out of the house and is asking me to locate a Locksmith in the yellow Pages! Yeah, I suppose shit does happen on Christmas Day too.

Anyhow, long and short of it is that it was a good day. I got some nice presents, actually more than I had expected, so tings nuh too bad.

Boxing Day I was on call but thankfully, it remained quiet. I’m about to hit the shower and hold a fresh as one of the rude bwoys me used to go school wid having a session at him new yard. Long time me nuh go a good session still, so I hope de vibes irie. If anyting I will tell onoo bout it. Hope you had a good Christmas Day. Lata….session a call!

hi, my name is annalisa i’m an italian journalist. i found your email looking for news in blog about jamaica. i write for a monthly newspaper called Jack, that is about technology and new life stile dedicated especially to men age 20 to 35. I’m contacting you because i’m looking for a blogger from Jamaica that can write an article (we will translate it from english to italian) for my newspaper. can you be interested in this job? What we need is an article about one a Jamaican town (negril or Kingstone.) that is considered in evolution. Information about the city, the changes, where to go, what to see, which (if ) there are areas in which there is a modernization, or changes. -what we need is also the addresses (postal and web when itīs possible of the places you mention in the piece) -and also can you give us an idea of the prices to go to a disco, for a coffe, a meal (cinema, art gallery, ecc) -there are any monuments or important buildings to visit? (always please, street address) .So, just to give you an idea you can give a look to a review of tourism. even if, we obviously are interested in your personal point of view. it has to be you speaking about your city, telling us where to go during the day and in the evening. the article has to be long 6000 characters, and we’ll be payed in US dollars. we can find an agreement about the money if you are interested in writing this article for our newspaper. and i would give you many more details about what exactly we need. I ask you to answer to this email also if you are not interested, or if you want to suggest me somebody else that can be interested in this job. best wishes annalisa
