Session vibes…….
Well, I went to the session. However, I must tell you that I got lost to rass finding it. The directions that I was given to get there did not help me much at all. As a matter of fact, I ended up in some parts of Red Hills that I never knew existed….not that I know that area very well anyway. So, realizing that I was lost, I had to get on the cell which wasn’t performing too well up deh either….I kept getting cut off. Eventually I linked a bredren Twin Batty who was already there on the cell, but his directions weren’t great either. Then I had no service on the phone, so I continued driving……ended up on a road that looked pretty desolate….saw a taxi man parked in his car on the side of the road….as this road had no street lights, I had on my brights, the taxi man wasn’t too happy bout dat still as de bredren was obviously doing some work, if you get the drift!
At the same time, I thought a Taxi man should know where this place was, but I don’t think he would have appreciated my checking him for directions while his ‘meter was running’ so to speak! So I turned around and getting quite frustrated after driving for over thirty minutes in dark lonely country, suddenly I get back into an area where there is cell service. I call again, cussing nuff claat I tell them that I am ready to go right back home, eventually they decide they will meet me at a point. Can you believe I was less than a minute away from the location? Anyway, so much for that. Jamaicans are known to build their homes in some very unusual places.
So, I reach the session and greet a few friends. Seems that I don’t know most of the crowd and I end up hanging with Twin Batty and his wife for most of the night. Met another couple and a yute and the chat got around to what is happening on the nightlife scene in Kingston……..
Apparently, The Quad, a new nightclub is the place to go to now. But everyone says it has been pretty crowded over the season with all the visitors from overseas, but apparently the vibes are good, so I must give it a check soon. The yute did mention that the scenery was “easy on the eyes!” I suppose I won’t ever complain about good vistas.
Later in the course of the night, we become the centre of conversation of a dread (Rastafarian) who was at the session (albeit uninvited I understand from the people who were hosting the party). The dread was obviously under nuff herb and juice. Now, I don’t know if any of you have ever encountered a dread, but they consider themselves masters of culture and are very much into their African heritage and their ties to the Emperor Haile Selassie. So, he starts to chat to us and we listen. Now, I have mentioned before that Jamaicans are a people that are very racially diverse and the five of us that he was talking to did make up a cultural melting pot. So, he told me that I was from Tibet, Twin Batty from India, his wife, Chinese, and the other couple to him looked like they were from Somalia!
He then proceeded to ask them if they had any children yet? The girl replied saying that they had not yet had any. He then looks at her and says that she must stop taking the birth control poison and allow the covenant to be fulfilled. We all found this to be quite funny. I tell you, when Dreads under dem herb them chat all kinda fart!
Eventually I made it home at about 1 AM and hit the bed. Any of you chat crap when you get irie??? I really don’t think I do, but what I do know is that I laugh a lot and cuss nuff, especially if in predominantly male company. Anyhow, a pretty trivial post, but if you managed to read this far you must really like my writing cause I honestly think I’m very idle. Have a good Sunday.

December 28th, 2003 at 1:12 pm hi, my name is annalisa i’m an italian journalist. i found your email looking for news in blog about jamaica. i write for a monthly newspaper called Jack, that is about technology and new life stile dedicated especially to men age 20 to 35. I’m contacting you because i’m looking for a blogger from Jamaica that can write an article (we will translate it from english to italian) for my newspaper. can you be interested in this job? What we need is an article about one a Jamaican town (negril or Kingstone.) that is considered in evolution. Information about the city, the changes, where to go, what to see, which (if ) there are areas in which there is a modernization, or changes. -what we need is also the addresses (postal and web when itīs possible of the places you mention in the piece) -and also can you give us an idea of the prices to go to a disco, for a coffe, a meal (cinema, art gallery, ecc) -there are any monuments or important buildings to visit? (always please, street address) .So, just to give you an idea you can give a look to a review of tourism. even if, we obviously are interested in your personal point of view. it has to be you speaking about your city, telling us where to go during the day and in the evening. the article has to be long 6000 characters, and we’ll be payed in US dollars. we can find an agreement about the money if you are interested in writing this article for our newspaper. and i would give you many more details about what exactly we need. I ask you to answer to this email also if you are not interested, or if you want to suggest me somebody else that can be interested in this job. best wishes

January 1st, 2004 at 6:55 pm Dr. D. dem Red Hills parties used to be pretty good even in back in the day when I was back in Jam down. Maybe it is because it takes such a damned long time to get to them that they had better be great!!!
