Its a holiday….
…here today. Ash Wednesday. As it is a religious holiday… marking the start of Lent, I always have remembered it to be a fairly quiet day. So far this one has been no different. Not having to go to work today and hitting the sack after 1 this morn, I got up a bit later than usual….almost 9 o’clock. Maybe that was my body speaking to me and saying, “I’m tired and need rest!”
Had my cup of tea and did some scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese for brekki. That is a big breakfast for a weekday. Spent a little time watching the fish in my tank on the back patio and fell asleep out there in my usual ‘at home attire’….boxers of course. I read through the Gleaner and Yahoo Oddly Enough not too long ago, but nothing really grabbed me that was worthy of a blog post.
Don’t know what’s up, but recently I had said to Mad Bull, that I was looking around for a topic to get a lot of comments on…..little did I know that someone was lurking out there in cyberspace ready to sink a Samurai sword into by abdomen and disembowel me in my last post. Well, hear wah? Me still deh ’bout. And thanks to those readers of mine who came to intercept the Patriot missiles that were being launched in my direction. Respec due.
I suppose it teaches something that I came to realize long ago since I started this thing. Don’t rate your posts. Fine, if you like a particluar post, by all means you’re free to do so. But, one is never really sure how a single word or sentence out of a whole post can affect the way in which a reader is going to comment.
Well, as you may surmise, I have really not got a topic for today. So, before someone out there decides that the intergalactic holocaust of words must continue, mek me shut mi rass mout’ and say, enjoy the rest of your Ash Wednesday. Easy nuh.
February 25th, 2004 at 5:49 pm Happy Ash Wednesday to you too!
February 25th, 2004 at 9:11 pm Breathren, I am sorry if I offended you. I had to reread my post to see why I pissed off your posse. I do not wish to make this a war of words nor do I wish for you to change. I enjoy your “blog” very much and it gives a touch of home to this distant and cold land. I reread my post and just can’t find the Samuri sword or Patriot missilies. My 2nd, 24th and 55th line I express my feelings towards you and non were ill. I know that this is your blog and I and sorry to invade your world but maybe you can give me a chance and explain where I attack you? I have a bottle of 68 rum that might make amends. So I try to explain but first reread my post and remember the best thing you can do for a friend is tell him when he is wrong. So now I try to defend myself. 1)I did not say you could and could not purchase alcohol with your pay. I simple alluded to the fact that you got a nice bonus and chose to buy alcohol (I have no problem with that) and then in the same breath cuss the govt about wasting money. Am I the only one that gets that? p.s Trish. You alluded that I have a political bias. WHAT!!! Of course can we can bitch, whine and complain but DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE THE SITUATION. “Reality” and “live with it” , good thing some slaves decided to bun up the place and change their “reality” and chose “not to live with it”. Good thing they did not have that frame of mind or else we be still picking cotton and cutting cane. 2)Words and deeds are two different things. You respect women but think nothing of grouping a dancer while on vacation. Do you think as a young girl she dreamed of being a dancer or was this a means to an ends? Before someone foolishly says that is her choice stop and think. For those that will put some though into it here another example, would you buy sugar if you knew that it came from slave labour the old adage slave was “every spoon of sugar two drops of blood” p.s ciya single Male- sounds like the excuse they used when the lynched us,”just some good ole boys having fun” 3)I never accused nor meant to accuse you of flaunting your station in life. Check the last two lines. p.s Idontderserve- I do volunteer work. Enough hours to qualify as a full time job hence the old stereotype about Jamaicans working 2 jobs. My wife chose to go into poverty law and hence we both have liitle time to even start a family and yes I do intend to move back home (caribbean)before I retire. To those that stated that I should spend my money at home, I do. I was in Jamaica for 1wk in October for a funeral, 2 weeks in August and january03 for 2weeks. I come home twice a year so let us not assume. 4)The incident happened in India not Antigua (more proof that perhaps you all did not read the orignal post with both eyes open).I was sincerly not attacking you. 5)Billy- please tell me where I used the word HATE or showed hatred towards Dr D. To those that live in USA have you helped to fight the problem in region by fighting against shiprider, brain drain (run for the money)or the upcoming Banana war that WILL destroy the region. NO BUT YOU SURE BITCH AND WHINE WITH BEST OF THEM, BULLY FOR YOU. 6)Jamie-thanks for the valium but why do I need it. I did not ask anyone to do anything but help others. Maybe Dr D will tell the % of Jamaican women that were sexual abused before 16. To the rest explain why volunteerism is at all time low in JA but radio talk shows are the hottest thing. All talk no … Please take the time to read the post and Dr D I will say sorry again but I sincerly did not wish to attack you I simply wish to show that you are the one of the bright spots and has such your role is greater than others. Ok I hope I got it all. DR D with such a strong following of drinkers maybe changing to GI would be a great move towards your pension. No ill feelings and I was not attacking you.
February 26th, 2004 at 7:51 am First off, I accept your apology. But, you seem as I had surmised from your previous comment to be carrying around some issues….and I’m not the only one who seems to think so. Slavery seems to be one of them….”would you buy sugar if you knew it came from slave labour?” Look man, slavery was indeed an awful thing, but people can’t continue to live in the past. As Bob Marley says….”EMANCIPATE YOURSELF FROM MENTAL SLAVERY….NONE BUT OURSELVES CAN FREE OUR MINDS!” Regarding the dancer in Aruba who was Cuban….I don’t know where you got the idea that any groping took place of the woman. You must remember as Ciya mentioned….a lot of joking takes place on this site. She simply posed for a picture after the show with someone who was in the audience…like many others did. I have no idea if she dreamed to be a dancer…..but she and the group she works with do their job very well. And they make money by doing so providing people with entertainment….honestly. Otherwise, I doubt I can help you solve your issues (not that you asked to me to). Life goes on my firend…whether it seems fair to you or not. That is the nature of the world in which we live. We can simply do our part to try to make it a better place.
February 26th, 2004 at 9:58 am That bit about changing from rum to GI… What is GI? BTW, 1of6billion, I agree with you on one point at least. Too many people chat a lot about issues but aren’t prepared to do anything about trying to fix them. Its just disgusting…
Unfortunately, I am probably one of those stupid assholes. If you check MY blog out, I DO chat up a storm, and when have I really lifted my own hand to right any of these wrongs?
Its sad, but there it is!
I guess I’m too busy running my blog to do anything constructive on these issues, as well as the fact that my hands are being overused lifting glasses of V/X from the table to my lips… strenuous work, that!
Tell you what. Keep reading blogs like the Docs and mine, and any others that fall into that category for guidelines on what the issues are, and then you and the other doers can fix the problems, ok!
February 26th, 2004 at 11:56 am Now that the dust has cleared and you have all “shared”, let me say my peace. I believe everyone is entitled to his/her opinion and I have enjoyed the abundance of it, unfortunately quantity does not ensure quality. I have learned to value the opinion of others, the dull and ignorant and even the loud and arrogant. Not because I have to but out of respect for life. I am not a fan of the doc because we share the same views, but I admire his unique perspective, his willingness to share and the feeling of being intouch with another persons experiences in a country I love but felt I could no longer live in. Dr. D, keep sharing. Anyone who continues to live in that country, let alone work for PJ and his posse deserves to be heard. Rant and rave all you want, it is all I could do to keep my sanity. I am the first to admit that I have a political bias, but the JLP has failed me as well. Let us all be grateful for our stations in life and make the most of our heritage…even if it is in a foreign land. Cheers
February 26th, 2004 at 12:37 pm Mad Bull- GI refers to Gastroenterology. Basically just a shot at all the drinkers. side note Dr- Regading slavery, do you not think the current situation in Haiti has any thing to do with slavery? Pick up a copy of Mimi Sheller (Consuming the Caribbean). I would have recommened Narratives of Resistance but afraid of the labels that might follow.
February 26th, 2004 at 3:17 pm 1of6….if you had read the entry that I had made previously, I linked to an article written by a woman who did mention that part of Haiti’s situation today may well be due to slavery. I also mentioned that I can’t confirm that what she said is correct…beacuse I don’t know if it is, though what she wrote sounded quite reasonable to me. I will be the first to admit that history was never one of my strong points. I did no history after third form in high school. My educational background was heavily biassed towards the natural rather than the social sciences beacuse I thought from way back then that I might have wanted to become a doctor. You are aware that people get ’streamed’ in schools. People who want to do Medicine don’t get into economics and sociology. Those who want to do Law don’t do Physics and Zoology. (I don’t think this has changed much since my time either.) If indeed slavery is the real reason why Haiti is suffering today, it is sad. Whatever it is that accounts for Haiti’s cross today, it is sad. Human suffering is sad. Does that mean that I am going to carry it around as a burden on my shoulders and allow it to interfere with my daily living and carry feelings of anger for the perpetrators of slavery??? No. (You might think that I really don’t care as I don’t live there and am here enjoying a lifestyle that you seem to feel is lavish.) Probably I am one who just likes to beat up gums and do nutten but give lip service. Plenty o we exist. My friend, lots of crap happened to many peoples of this world and still continues to. Like I have said before, those who these issues affect have got to deal with it and those of us who realize that it is wrong, can try our best to see that it does not continue. There’s racial prejudice, prejudice against people because of sexual preference…there is terrorism and crime, drug abuse and so on. I’m not happy that these things exist. And I may not be getting up on a platform in Constant Spring or Half Way Tree shouting about it. But I have to live my life as you do yours. If you feel so moved about these issues, then why not consider a political career man? Regarding your literary recommendation, thanks for the advice, however, I doubt that it is the sort of thing that I would buy or read. My spare time is limited and a lot of it is spent reading medical journals, preparing talks for medical and public education. That’s the sorta of stuff I get into….not much into history (hence my obvious ignorance in that area)….there aren’t many I know that are Jack’s of all Trades. I will stick with Derm and have no intention to get into GI…if I end up suffering from a cirrhotic liver (doubtful at my preesent rate of VX consumption), then… a jus life! And, at least I will remember that someone who read my blog in the past had warned me, and like many patients, I failed to heed the advice of one who knew better. I am finished. Have to get back to work.
February 26th, 2004 at 10:53 pm Wow…I’m away from the computer for a day or two and look what happens! Doc…Don’t change. 106billion should confine lengthy comments like those he’s left here to his own blog. I assume he’s used your forum because he doesn’t have a successful one of his own. I’ve enjoyed your blog, and it would be a shame if comments from one critical reader lessened your pleasure from bloging.
