A what a gwaan…..???

To those of you who may read this and not hail from Jamaica, the title means, “What is going on?”

Before I get into the real reason for this post, let me just dismiss the football match against Honduras last nite! As far as I’m concerned, we shudda had the win in the bag. Honduras really did not prove to be a difficult opposition in the first half and we scored a nice goal early in the match. Then early in the second half, we put a second one in their net. All was well…2:0 to rass in our favour! smily

Then, our golie had to be substituted on account of an old injury acting up, and from there on, the phuckery started. They scored within seconds of the change in goal keeper! Eventually, they scored a second to equalise and it ended in a draw to bumbo claat! smily Mek me tell onoo, nuff claat cuss inna dat stadium last nite.

Basically, after our team played well in the first half, if you ask me, they dissed the Hondurans and let down their guard…..they thought that they were a second rate team IMHO. Overall, good first half, bad second half, shitty result. As for the Trini ref…….. smily him need fe learn the game and stop hold on to yellow card for dear life! That’s about all I will say ’bout it….. me vex to rass claat and can’t stop cuss. I even took some photos and feel like I should just delete dem claat! Here is the Gleaner’s version if you like. We play Venezuela on the 28th of this month and right now, I have mixed feelings about going to see that game. Maybe by then my mood would have changed.

Changing gears. If you read here long enough, you’ll realise that I went to high school at the blue and white of North Street…..St. George’s College….. “George’s” as we call it. It is a Catholic all boys high school run by Jesuit Priests. I have heard from good sources that discipline there has gone out the front door. One o the man dem that used to go school with me, told me that he had to move his son from our alma mater to another school on account of poor discipline and other issues. Sad shit if you ask me.

Now, I will say that there were no angels in school with me, we gave the usual kind of trouble that could be found in any boy’s school. And yes, I’ll admit that a fair amount of the yute dem used to bun herb in the bathroom at lunch time. But still, overall, we towed the line. It seems like all hell bruk loose down deh now. Apparently the discipline has got so out of hand that the school is consdering installing surveillance cameras on the school compound in order to try to capture the culprits. Clearly, things have got significantly worse since my time. Is this just a reflection of the breakdown of discipline in general that we have in this country of ours? I’m sure all my fellow Georgian’s feel as badly about this as I do. I wonder if there is any way in which we could help to bring about change? Any suggestions?

Anyway, me gaan, and btw, if there are any of you out there, Happy April Fool’s Day! smily

I thought it was an April fool’s joke that we draw wid Honduras. Mi so vex, I was so hoping that I would get another reason to go to Germany for the world cup. How our chances look now? I have not been keeping up so not sure if we can still qualify.

Serious tings a gwaan at Georges these days. My son now attends Ardenne because of lack of discipline at STGC among other reasons. He was physically assaulted (as far as I am concerned) although the school admin downplayed it. Some students tried to force him over the balcony and on another occassion shortly after, he was injured by a half brick thrown in his direction. I found out from my own investigations that it was in “retaliation” for him doing his schoolwork and therefore showing up some boys who didn’t. Same story with another parent who was having similar treatment meeted out to her son. That was 2 years ago. I moved him before I had to go there to kill somebody. Last week I heard that some students were on charges for sexual assault and others (or another) for destruction of property. Second hand info though so I can’t confirm.

Scratchie, I can confirm the sexual assault thing. Apparently they had a fete there on Ash Wednesday or something like that and a girl who attended was sexually assaulted by several boys… I know a lady who moved her son after they hit out his front tooth a few years ago too… Sad times for STGC, bwoy…

Trish, there are some pretty good teams that are in this region that we would need to come up against….Haiti, Costa Rica, Mexico and the USA come to mind. I guess we just have to watch and see how things work out in the qualifiers my girl. I hope we mek it to 2006 still.
