Ladies week end!!!
Yeah, it’s Ladies weekend…..Oh what a weekend!
This evening I will be leaving my Kidlets at home in the capable hands of Popsy to go on my annual ladies weekend.
Do I look happy and excited…. Yeah.
Ladies, those of you out there who have never done this…It is a must, whether you are single, married or a mother…it is a MUST!!! It is just a time to get away, in the company of our girlfriends and relax and have a great time.
Two of the girls I used to work with started these week ends a few years ago. Our supervisor (our fearless leader-she is one of the co-conspirators of the week end ) used to have a trailer iin a park on Lake Ontario and we used to go there. She has sold the trailer now, but we decided not to let that stop our week end. We will be meeting at her home….only in the next town, 15 minutes away from my home. And there the fun will begin. (I do have to smile though, because I will only be going 15 minutes away from my family! To many, that would not be significant enough, but it is not about being away from them so much as being in the company of an all female group and being able to really enjoy ourselves without having to worry about others.)
You may ask, what do us girls get up to on these week ends. Not too much really, because we usually have to take the rest of the weekend to get over the first night. Because, strangely enough, none of us seem to be able to party hearty like we used to in our early twenties!
We chat and laugh and have one or two (dozen *smile*) drinks! Sometimes the topics tend to run on the more raunchy side of life, but it is all in good fun. Occasionally, we get philosphical…and we talk about how much our loved ones mean to us! Sometimes, one or all of us end up having a good, refreshing cry!
But the thing is, it is a week end just for us….No children wanting to eat at a particular time. No husbands, trying to enlist our help with something. Nothing more urgent on our minds than….”Is it 12 o’clock some where so we can have our first little drinkie poo.” (It may sound like a lot of drinking to the unsuspecting reader of this blog……But, I’d have to admit, that you would probably be right in your assumptions here)!
Anyway, on to another topic. This morning, when Kidlets 2 & 3 were leaving for the school bus, there was a baby robin sitting on our front step. It certainly seemed bigger than new born, it had all its feathers and such… But it would only hop along. The mother (parent) came along and was trying to entice it to fly. She would hop away from it and the take a little flight and hope that it would follow her. Baby however, would just hop after her. The Mother tried and tried, coming back inbetween to feed it a little morsel of what looked like “bee”.
Eventually, the baby came back to our front step and took a short flight up the one step. Meanwhile, I am standing behind my door, giving encouragement….Come on, you can do it, you can fly…..(Like the bird cares what I think - *rolley eyes smilies* But I was left to wonder, the mother/father - who can tell the gender of birds - was so patient and kept coming back. Just like any good parent would do. And I thought about that and decided to wish all the parents out there HAPPY PARENT DAY” Because we do give up things for our children and we just want them to be safe, happy and fulfilled children.!!
p.s. I had to get on with my day, so I did not actually see Baby take flight, but when I next looked out both Mother and Baby were gone…..so here’s hoping!!!!!
Anyway folks, I do have to get on with my day.
So have a great week end
and enjoy your famalies
May 21st, 2004 at 11:36 pm Ladies Weekend eh? Well, sounds like clean fun. Enjoy it. I assume that Smirnoff Black is in ample supply. And, one big question. After all, I am male and have to look out for the dudes as well. When does Popsy get to have is rude boyz weekend!? You know, fishing, beer, no shaving etc etc etc!
May 25th, 2004 at 8:20 am Popsy can have his week end whenever. Although, he tends to take it over individual days. He often stops after work on a Friday. Besides which, he is a golfer….neeed I say more! He can go golfing whenever his little heart desires, so he is willing to let me have my weekend.
May 25th, 2004 at 10:01 pm Dr. D. already asked my question. Ladies weekend? Craziness… This is radical, revolutionary stuff… I’d better ensure that Natty doesn’t read about this!
May 27th, 2004 at 8:08 am Not to fear MB…..I think I have already told Natty about Ladies weekend!!!! Anyway, it was great fun.
