Tower Of Babel

Wah a gwaan sah? Bwoy, I tell you….last nite I was addressing a posse of envelopes for mailing….’bout seventy odd from a mailing list. I was tiyad, sleep was a hold me, and, I did walk in de evening yesterday as well..(in fact, mi thighs dem a likkle bit pain up dis morning).. but dat cool, it will pass. Anyway, I soon realized that it was time to call this addressing of envelopes quits. Me nuh start write all kinda foolishness pon few o de envelope dem! My favourite one…..”Generally cannot” after the person’s name! I wonda what de backside I was thinking?? So, a few minutes after the clock stroke midnite, I turned in.

BTW, I linked the Angry Dawg pon IM las nite. We chatted for ’bout an hour like some bredren weh know each odda from long time. De rude bwoy cool still….I guess both of us being Jamaican men, him living in foreign and obviously missing yard, we had plenty to share. Nice link up my yute. Mek sure you post suppem today, cause me need to read suppem interesting….(remember, as a dawg, you waan get fed, so you done know! ).

I suppose you are wondering how the title here fits in to the chat so far….well if you read a bit further, you will understand……

While doing my usual surf of the local news this morn (you caan live in a place like JA and don’t know what a gwaan), I came across an Observer story that had me reading keenly. Now, if you wake up and see a newspaper headline in your country that is entitled, “Beware of homegrown terrorists!” you nuh mus wonda wah kinda shyte a gwaan?

Yes people, I had to read it all. Now, if what this Flynn fellow is saying is true (and the vast majority of his suggestions do sound plausible to me), it does hold pretty serious implications for us. Yes, crime is not exactly in short supply here, and since we have plenty of it, we must have an ample amount of wrongdoers that carry it out. Yes, the drug trade is very much alive here… (though thankfully, the lawmen seem to be making some dents in it in recent times).

When the events surrounding 9-11 took place, I had said in jest that we here had nothing to worry about as we have our own ‘terrorists’ here. Then, just a few days ago, Yamfoot wrote a small entry indicating that she was going to the US Embassy here to apply for a student visa and had said that she hoped that she would not be denied it. I made a comment jokingly, saying that she had nothing to fret about as “You nuh name terrorist!”

But, when I think about this article more, its pretty serious what Flynn has mentioned. I hope nutten like this would occur here. Can you imagine what would become of us if we were to lose trade with the States? And, what would happen if the US government were to issue a travel advisory to its citizens telling them not to come here because we are under suspicion of breeding terorists!? We woulda suck bloodcleat salt iyah!

So, I guess we betta keep our eyes open, because like how we small in comparison to Uncle Sam, if we waan eat likkle food, it look like if him tell we mus jump, we haffi ask, how high? Sigh. So here is where the title fits….Don’t even think it. We don’t, or more like can’t afford that crap to occur. What a ting world politics is eh? Any comments? (You know how I thrive on them.)

Finally, I can imagine that this pensioner would have a rass of a time editing de occasional claats dem on dah site yah! Don’t you think?
