Hooray…the Don a retire!
Well, it is all over the headlines this morning. The Observer and Gleaner both have it as their lead stories. Both show photographs of a fragile looking old man. It is overdue and worthy of a drink IMHO, but a bit too early for alcohol, so I will just chill with my cuppa tea. About time Eddie, step down and spend quality time wid de yute dat you and your wife have.
Not much more on which to report. I’m feeling a bit of burn in my calves and thighs this morning. So I feel this evening I will pass on the walking and do some abdominals, help to get the six pack ready for show on de beach….you done know!
(Right now the six pack lacking definition still, so some abs overdue yes.) Bwoy, what a ting youth is eh? I remember de days when me and Mad Bull used to lift weights after school and all stand up and jump inna each odda belly to work abs. Dem days de six pack was a seh nuff! Oh to be a carefree teen again!
Don’t really have much else to chat about and I haven’t surfed much this morning. So hol dat for now nuh. Later.
June 30th, 2004 at 8:49 am …I have a “one pack” at the moment - more like a barrel :^)…
June 30th, 2004 at 1:27 pm I guess we all outlive our usefulness after a while eh?!
June 30th, 2004 at 4:10 pm Eddie’s resignation is definitely for the best of the JLP but it not effective yet….and we’ve seen this play out before. Personally I think the problems being experience here are beyond the scope of any of our current politicians. I don’t have any trust or respect for most, if not all of them. We need a new focus.
June 30th, 2004 at 6:39 pm scratchie…you may well be right.
June 30th, 2004 at 10:20 pm Well, I feel that Eddie should step down too, but at the same time, we must not diss the man… he has done lots for the country in the past, IMHO. While I don’t feel that any of the politicians that I know of deserve any “National Hero” honour, Eddie certainly deserves it more than those assholes Menlie and the little country bwoy. Still, you can have too much of a good thing, you simi.

July 1st, 2004 at 3:26 pm Despite natty’s words above, which are true, a mere reflection back to the days of socialism which no longer hold, Eddie neva play dat. Fine. But, his time came long ago, he should have stepped down about five years ago. What he may have ‘played’ in the past is not going to cause me to have allegiance to him now when he has little that he can offer…..apart from advice perhaps. You wouldn’t like know how many people saying is the best suppem to happen to the JLP in a long time. What will happen to Jamaican politics now, we will just have to wait and see. I pray that we can move on in the interest of our country.
July 1st, 2004 at 9:50 pm well Dr.D I hope if and when you reach 74 and you feel to keep working i hope dem dont kick out yu baxide…but wait …nuh di same eediat dem keep voting him back as party leader?….DUH!
July 2nd, 2004 at 12:38 am well, i think there is much to be said for eddie’s retirement. a man can do alot for his country, but there comes a time when he outlives his ability to contribute ‘effectively’ to the good of the land. That time has come for eddie. he played a monumental role in turning our country away from socialism, and deserves the credit of being one of our best leaders - no doubt! But like all good things, he should have come to an end may years ago. Once he started to inhibit the ability of the jlp to contest an election in any meaningful way, he should have stepped down. we all know of his immense contrbution to our society, and we all know of the fact that he has become a hurdle - no, a roadblock, to the jlp. at no time in the history of jamaica has any party held office for more than two terms, until the time that eddie began to hinder his party. this poor excuse for a government has been in office for what… five or six terms - its ridiculous! we need change, and anything that blocks the change must be removed. if eddie is fighting for the interests of the jamaican people, he must step down, because we KNOW that his leadership of the party is the cause of the bad taste in people’s mouths whne you mention the jlp - earned or not. There is also the point that we all, as jamaicans, need to read the book ‘Bawn fi Dead”. By no means do I purport that it should be taken as a gospel, but I do believe that there are many real facts in that book that we were never aware of, that puts the whole ideal of government in jamaica and the whole political system in a different - and i daresay, more realistic light. its time for us to do away with the affiliations and beliefs of our forefathers and to begin to research, analyse and think for ourselves about what really can be done to improve our country, what can be done to make our government more accountable, what can be done to stop tolerating the nonsense, and what can be done to make the vast number of us, who have moved away from our rich, beautiful island in search of opportunity, feel called to move back home. its time for a govt. ‘of the people’ and ‘for the people’ in a very real sense - a govt. with fresh ideas and fresh ideals and a very real desire for change, growth and development. that - that is not a govt. that we have seen in many, many, many years! Pray God, that we still have a chance to find it. NUFF SAID, nuh true
July 2nd, 2004 at 7:47 am Very well said Seven! Nice to know that you still read here.. (of course I have no way of knowing that you do if you don’t comment!) You sure you don’t want to come home and run for office?!
