Boys Will Be Boys!!

Posted in Uncategorized on September 30th, 2004 by Ciya

Yesterday I got a call from KD# 2’s (who is 12 going on 13) school. There had been an “altercation” and # 2 was wanting to come home. The teacher thought it would be good if he did. I, on the other hand did not!

He has been having problems with a kid in his class. This kid has realized that #2 is a very sensative boy and that he can goad him into losing his temper. For days, weeks even # 2 has been coming home complaining about this boy and trying to keep his cool. However, yesterday the pot boiled over!

They were playing basketball during French class (no…I am not sure what basketball has to do with learning French!). No 2 got the ball away from the kid and so the kid pushed him, at which point #2 started to walk away, but the the kid called him a “Fat Ass” - (# 2 has not yet grown tall enough for his weight and is rather conscious of that fact, although he is also very broad of chest and back and rather strong).

Needless to say, #2 turned around and instantly had the kid in a head lock on the asphalt of the playground!!!!! They ended up in the office with the teacher calling me. He ended up staying at school because I refused to let them send him home or to go for him. They were not at the point where they were going to suspend him fortunately.

This scenario has happened a few times to #2 but this is the first time he has actually done any more than push the offender back. The school thinks he has a bad temper…which he does, but he never starts the incident and it is never a single incident that leads to his anger. It takes weeks of being teased or bothered before # 2 retaliates.

Don’t Be fooled..Brokers Work for the Insurance Companies

Posted in Uncategorized on September 30th, 2004 by Scratchie

We often see these nice ads on tv that tell you how much the insurers care about you and how well treated you will be by the brokers if you give them your business. I am here to tell you that …IS LIE DEM AH TELL!!!

I am insured through a broker in Kingston with a noted insurance company. I have two cars on the policy both insured comprehensively. About 8 weeks ago, one vehicle was sold and a pro-rata refund was requested for the remainder of the contract period.

IYAH!!…You would believe that is dentist mi go, because getting the refund is like pulling teeth.

Seven calls later, plenty of questionable language and threats of legal action later I am still awaiting my cheque which they now say will be paid tomorrow.

Long week…

Posted in General on September 30th, 2004 by Dr. D

I don’t know ’bout you, but somehow this week seems to be dragging along slowly to me. Last night, I turned in early at about 9:30 as I was feeling a bit jaded. Didn’t do much surfing at all on the net. Natty and MBJr were up here for a while. MBJr was entertaining himself watching my dogs, cartoons and jumping in the bed etc….what can I say, he is a male child. I am happy that he seemed so much at home.

Today is Thursday September 30th, that bold is for Mad Bull. You see, while I was dropping him to the airport yesterday, we were wondering about the date. I told him it was September 29th. He was adamant it was the 30th….saying, “You waan bet?” He sounded so sure that I did not bother to take it on…. (there have been times in the past where we have bet each other over trivial stuff and I have lost on some occasions, he on others.) Anyway, I should have bet now that I know… I wonder what he was going to wager? A return ticket to Cayman perhaps? Anyway, is not a big deal my yute, the month ends today.

It has been a while since I checked the stuff at Yahoo Oddly Enough. I found a little article that interested me. Now, we were treated to some pretty good athletics from Athens in August. In particular, the event that had me most hyped though its over so quickly, is the men’s 100 metre sprint. Now this article reports that it is possible that in the future, women may be clocking faster times in the 100 metre sprint than men! smily I wonder what Shaun Crawford, Justin Gatlin or Asafa Powell will have to say about that? Do you believe it?

According to this Gleaner article we are in for some unstable weather soon. Right now it is bright and sunny. But then again, yesterday afternoon, we had a clouburst and in an hour or so, the sun was shining again. Nevertheless, if it is rain, not a real problem (though folks living in areas prone to landslides and flooding may not welcome more water after Ivan), as long as it is not another hurricane, dat cool wid me. Join me in sending up a few prayers to the Big Guy for a speedy return of water and electricity to my bredrins in Cayman. Actually, I spoke with Piano Bert’s daughter yesterday and she informed me that their water has returned. So, there’s hope for the Bull. Just heng on likke more rude bwoy, everyting soon kriss….you waan bet on it!? smily Have a good day people.

A Doctor’s visit…

Ivan pics 014.jpg

The picture is of a view of Kingston post Ivan from up at my cousin’s house in Stony Hill. I guess despite being blown a bit roughly, Kingston still stands.

Yeah, you know how they say that the visits of a medical practitioner are usually short lived….well, this is going to be one of those. I caan stay too long with you as much as I would like to. I have to pull out of port earlier than usual as I’m transporting my yute Mad Bull to the airport. I really doh envy him returning to no water and electricity!
smily Dat shyte is damn annoying, and when you have to endure it too long it mek you miserable nuh rass. Anyway, let us hope you soon get water inna you pipe dem sah. I guess then the light will follow.

The Bull also did some computer fix up business here on my system. You see, in the last two weeks, my computer apparently was selected (unknown to me) as the headquarters for pop up porn ads….literally consuming my screen every five minutes once I was on line! smily Now, ask me why that would happen to MY computer? smily Anyway, rude bwoy Bull downloaded a programme, and so far so good. No pop up ads with penetration…or spread eagle shots of women. Respec bredrin! smily

That’s about it for now. Let me go rustle up some breakfast and hit the bathroom. Oh, how could I forget, the food last night at the send off dinner for my colleague was irie. I gorged myself! smily Probably I will write ’bout dat later. Take it cool. smily

This and That

Posted in Uncategorized on September 28th, 2004 by Ciya

Well, after a wonderful week with sunshine and brilliant blue skies and warm weather, today dawned foggy, rainy and cold. The fall wind has come folks. There are now 100% more leaves on the ground than yesterday….Aaaah well, I guess that is what seasons are all about.

We had a great weekend here. Aside from the mundane things like laundry and housework etc we went fishing twice, on Sunday and Monday (hence no comments, or blogs because when I was home there was all that “housework” and the other four letter word “work” (the paying kind) to do.

On Sunday just Popsy and I went fishing. It was great. We caught about 16 fish, mostly perch and some sunfish. However, they were all pretty small so we did not end up keeping any of them. Then we decided that seeing as Popsy had the day off on Monday it would be great if we brought along one of my clients
(I am an ABA therapist) on the Monday. He is 7 years old and is autistic. He gets along very well with our own 7-year-old, KD#3, so we let him skip school too and the four of us headed out by 9:30 am on Monday morning.

Yowah yow!

Posted in General on September 28th, 2004 by Dr. D

OK, for my non local readers, the title here is essentially a rude bwoy way of greeting you. Apologies for not posting nutten in the last few days, but let us say I got caught up and really hadn’t much to share. BTW, in case you are wondering, this post doesn’t really have a ‘point’ or anything, right now I’m just stating some facts and writing down stuff that comes to mind randomly. So, if you are looking for a well written, well thought out post, I think you are going to be disappointed!

I got up at 5AM this morn. Had some stuff thinking ’bout as well as a document that I needed to edit, which I can happily say is now complete. smily Went through the first part of the bathroom routine (TMI eh?) earlier and now mi cuppa tea sits here with me in front of the computer. At 5 AM the house is so quiet and there is nada to disturb a man, the birds outside are having a chirping frenzy and a cool breeze a roll down off the hill, billowing the drapes in my study. After doing the editing, I realized that a post was due here, so I decided that whatever came to mind would get written.

As you may know, the Bull deh ’bout. Yesterday I loaned my yute the Integra and helped him out with some stuff that he needed to get done. Last nite, he, Seven, Midas, Natty and MBJr. came up for drinks. I had a half litre of VX, well, dat was nutten for three grown male rum drinkers to demolish. I think there is just about enuff left for a one drink….if Angry Dawg want, him can have it…he did sound like he was asking to reach on….but him need to hold a flight to yard still! smily (Probably we need to send a hurricane to his corner of the world! After all, nuh dat cause the Bulls to reach!) Basically we chatted and shared hurricane stories. I think we can all say…..we doh waan hear nutten more ’bout nuh breeze blow, storm surge, flood rain etc! In case you haven’t read it, Mad Bull put his Ivan experience into words, gie it a check. A some serious rass shyte! Far worse than what we had here.smily

Tonight, I am going out to dinner with the rest of the crew from our Unit. One of our number is mekking the trek to the UK to further her dermatology education. It dawned on me that is almost seven years ago that I made that move to rahtid! Time does fly indeed. I wish her all the best. I believe/hope the boss is footing the dinner bill. If she is not then I better walk with nuff diswashing liquid!

Anyhow, right now, I man well raw (hungry) this morning, I think I going buss a tin of sardines and dress it up with some vinegar, scotch bonnett pepper, chopped onions and tomato for breakfast. No dieting crap today at all. After that, I going surf some blogs and then complete the rest of the bathroom routine and collect the Bull on the way to the hospital….yeah, I’m letting him have a borrows off the vehicle again today. (Fret not rude bwoy, the bill cometh! smily Anybody know what the going daily rate to rent an Integra is??)

Finally, in case you didn’t see the contest, the Gleaner has an article about the Miss Jamaiaca World contest, with a photo of the winner Tonoya Toyloy. Go prips it nuh! Later will be greater!

Normality??? Returns

Posted in Uncategorized on September 27th, 2004 by Scratchie

Well it is now 2 weeks since the infamous Ivan the Terrible passed through. Things are beginning to return to ‘normal’ here in Jamdown. The dried tree branches and leaves left for collection on the sidewalks is a grim reminder of where we were just a few days past.

I got back light on Saturday gone but I am wondering if that is a good thing or not since with its return comes the return of cable, TV, late work and just general hustle bustle.

This in stark contrast to the two weeks gone when we sat as a family and chatted since there wasn’t much else to do. We ate dinner together, we basically shared circumstances. Homework was done early, everybody chipped in to get the work done before the heat of the night set in.

Not to say that there was not a fair share of difficulty. Shopping on a daily basis is expensive and whatever is bought had to be used. Ice became a luxury.
As a matter of fact there were nights when I drove to my sister across town to get ice.

I’ve learnt though. The important stuff are the things without a price tag. Things we argue about can quickly vanish and pale in comparison to the things we can’t recover…family, friendship, time lost and trust head my list.

Now having said that …..I now need to remember that I don’t need to use the flashlight to go to the bathroom…flick the switch idiot!!!

‘Beautiful Browns’….

Posted in General on September 26th, 2004 by Dr. D

Today, I really not bothering to post…..at least not now. I am going to tell you to gwaan over to mi sistren Michelle AKA Yamfoot and join in the discussion about ‘Beautiful Browns’. I guess we will know later which one was selected to be Miss Jamaica World. Good luck to them all. Have fun participating in the chat. smily

I’m thankful…

Ivan pics 019.jpg

Wherever one goes now, all the chat is about the effects that this hurricane season has had on the Caribbean and Florida. The newspaper here is full of articles showcasing what repair has been done already. Of course, the politicians use this as a means of securing votes when the time for that comes. Thankfully, most of the folks I know here have been restored to some degree of normalcy, as we in city Kingston were spared the worst of Ivan…who still lives btw…can you imagine!?
smily

Anyway, the pic here shows numerous pears (avocados) that were handpicked by the hurricane. Ivan, being a man, took the brute force method of harvesting. Rather than trying to pick the pears individually, which would take some time as they were plentiful, just chop the whole tree down from the trunk to rahtid! As a result, we had approximately 80 pears from two fallen trees which we shared up with friends, family and co-workers. My Father had a feast (I don’t eat avocado at all). There you see them sitting on a table in the garage…I could easily have set up a stall at Constant Spring Market and sold them but I doubt I would get any buyers! smily

Today marks the end of the first real post hurricane work week and I must say it was a busy one… private practice last night buzzed and I started an hour earlier than I usually do ….me naw complain, I need the funds and I suppose the Big Guy does have a way of providing for his children. Also, today is payday, and it is TGIF time.

Remember that about a month ago, I had my briefcase stolen? Well, a drug….errr, pharmaceutical rep. had pity on me and was kind enough to give me a nice new stethoscope…leftover from a promotional event they had launching a drug for cardiologists recently. Saves me some money and I was happy to receive it. I got me new spectacles about three weeks back, my cousin Sprigadee in Florida has bought me a replacement briefcase which I should get soon, Rufie and Marc Antony gave me a new electronic personal organizer (no, it is not a palm….a so it spell? smily ) So, big tings a gwaan. All I need now is another BP kit.

Yesterday, I saw a patient at the hospital, not bad looking either! Turns out she is the PR manager at an all inclusive resort on our north coast. She thought I was nice to her and she has offered me a free day/weekend pass, the details of which we are to finalise when I review her next week! Kewl to rass! Any of you lasses waan spend it wid me? In addition, one of my favourite pharmacy reps brought me a sponsorship cheque towards my trip to Tobago in November. So, overall, I not complaining a backside.

Later, I plan to turn into a street urchin and link up a crew for some spirited brew (hey, poetry again! smily ), so I’m looking forward to this evening. It has been a while since any o dat gwaan.

I man going leave you with an article that I found in the Observer and wish you all a bashment Friday and weekend, even if it is spent picking up pieces after a hurricane blow! I guess you just have to try and see the bright side of things even in the midst of adversity. Easy nuh! smily
