Long time…

Hey, its been quite a while since my last post, huh? Tell you the truth, I’ve been pretty busy with work and stress, so haven’t been in the blogging mood, but one thing that has been brightening my weeks of late is a new discovery that has led to a rediscovery of something so wonderful, I feel compelled to share this…

To start, let me say that I am NOT a techie - I know only what I absolutely need to know on the computer in order to do what I absolutely need to do… and I find myself in recent years being absolutely stubbornly resolute about not wanting to learn things for myself that I feel should be the responsibility of others…

(Whatever - a post onto itself, as in car matters, fixing the computer, changing a high lightbulb, etc. - what are men for, if not to ‘handle’ shit??? As I said, a post onto itself, let me not digress…)

Of late, I have learned to download music for myself and make my own CD’s - a major accomplishment for me!!! I always felt Midas should do it for me - (still do, but whatever) , but I made my first two CD’s and I can’t tell you the joy it has brought me…

I made my first CD - a dance hall CD - seeing as this lesson was born out of making a cd for Midas’ sister to give as a wedding keepsake - something we said we’d do for her for her wedding - the fact that my first cd was a dance hall cd had Midas in stitches at the stark differences between his sister and me! smily

OK - I admit it - I am MB’s sister - We’re raunchy, down to earth and love a good dance hall tune! My cd comprises old and new faves - starting with ‘King of the Dance Hall’ - by Beenie Man, and going on to include my “Ele” - Elephant Man and old faves, like Buju, Barrington Levy (Here I Come, Too Experienced), Beres Hammond (If Love So Nice, Putting Up A Resistance) etc. - it boom, y’ear!!!! Never mind “Its A pity” by Tanya Stephens in the middle of it all - it wicked!!!! In fact, I plan to make MB a copy for his Christmas gift!!!

The other CD, now, is bone-weakening… I’m listening to it as we speak, and wow…

I was born in ‘68, so I am technically an ’80’s chick - and don’t get me wrong, I love the music of the ’80’s…

But I am also the youngest of 7 kids, so the music of the ’70’s is as personal to me as my own heartbeat…

I made a cd of my favorite ’70’s songs that keeps me inebriated with emotion and passion for life and a love of life that puts a smile on my face - man, I just can’t describe it…

‘Magnet and Steel’, ‘Always and Forever’, ‘Me and Mrs. Jones’, ‘Sexual Healing’, to name a few…

I plan to make copies for Ciya and Ambie - I think they’d appreciate it…

What music gets you going?

Hey, here’s a thought!!! Lets make a compilation cd of our favorites - it’ll be our gift to each other for the holidays - I can get about 18 songs on one cd - give me your two top faves and I’ll get it going - doesn’t matter the era - it’ll be our Caribbean Bloggers Greatest hits CD!!!! smily

Why not - music is the kiss of life, y’zimi!!! No matter what’s going on, it can make your day so much better… y’feelin’ mi?

Sorry to keep raining on my own parade… but I have to ask - do you think anyone else has ever been able to able to express the feelings of love like the artistes of the ’70’s??? Just listening to ‘Lovely Day’! ‘Then I look at you, And the world’s all right with me… Just one look at you, and I know its gonna be A LOVELY DAY!!!!!!!’

Well Seven, seems you have found a vice. Enjoy it. The music of the 70s and 80s was and still is irie. Plenty of the crap coming out nowadays really should be put where crap belongs. If I don’t see you or you don’t post before, Merry Christmas to you and Midas. If I make it to Cuddyz (heven’t been in a while…kinda lost the novelty for me) I’ll have a drink for you both.

Hi Seven, I love the older Buju Banton songs. Some of his recent culture stuff don’t really sit too well. My two favourites are How di Gal Dem Flex and Operation Ardent. I see wifey getting CDs burnt too but I found out that she commissions it out to The Short One and to my son. I found out because The Short One does it the hard way. She writes them to the hard drive then compiles but she often forgets to erase the files. So my drive got really full really quickly until I found out what became the storage space hog.

Seven, I would definitely appreciate the CD of 70s songs…the Kidlets believe that I am still living the 70s…:-)! I do not do the CD burning thing. I have too burners (both male…Popsy and Kidlet# 2) but truly, I am not at all interested in learning how to do this. Good to see your post. Love yu.

Seven, So you made your own CD! That’s pretty impressive. Are you younger than Ciya? Did you go to St. Cecelia prep too? I think I am about 3 years younger than Ciya (if she is the same age as my sister who went to school with her). I am wondering if we went to St. Cecelia at the same time?

Hi Stu, I did go to St. Cecilia - all too briefly, thank God. I left to start grade 2 at Immacualte Prep as my parents figured I fared better chances of getting into the high school there if I was a student at the prep. I wasn’t too sorry to leave though, as in my last year at St. Cecilia, Ms. Holness caned me (I guess fairly lightly) in my hand for being on the playground with friends instead of being in top class after school while waiting for my folks to pick me up. Did I mention I was about 5??? Anyway, Immaculate Prep offered many good years and memories! As an avid tomboy, I lived in the school’s humongous banyan tree and swung around like a little wild creature. I was notorious for making my crisp white uniform look like a brown paper bag. I had loads of fun! Funny thing - I grew up to be more of a girly-girl than I expected, with such an insurmountable fear of lizards that the thought now of even being UNDER a tree gives me shivers! Anyway, I am probably a couple years younger than you! No secrets about my age - not that way inclined - I’m 36!

7, yes, I am 41. I think I am closer to Mad Bull’s age. I can’t remember him from St Cecelia though. Maybe if I saw a picture of him between 6 and 10 I might remember. Oh, the caning, I got a few of those. Do you remember the famous, “this is going to hurt me more that it will hurt you” line she used to say before licking the hell out of your hands. Remember how she use to use the cane to move your hand up or down into the perfect cane licking position! I would instinctively start to curl my hand and she would just smooth it out slowly with the cane. And you just knew if she had to smooth it out more than once, that licking would be twice as hard. Once - just once, I just pulled my hand back as she came down with the cane, and man, she went crazy on me, hitting me on the legs and everywhere else. I swear, I wonder how that woman never went to jail for child abuse, but then again, that was a different culture, a different time, and a different place. All in all, I do have good memories of that place, tupence drinks that they reused the cups and never washed them with anything buy lemon water, the ping pong tables that that you had to call “crack” when the ball flew off the table, using the “net” board to roll Hot Wheels cars down to see if you could get them across, “fudgie” who used to sell ice cream out of the back of his motorcycle, Bull in the pen on the front lawn, and of course, waiting for your paretns after school in top class.
