Weekend review…

Well, what can I say? Sorry about the lack of posts for a while, but as I had much more stuff to do, blog posts were really not on my list of priorities.

Christmas Eve was probably the quietest of the days. See, after I linked Angry D and Yamfoot at Starapples for lunch the Thursday afternoon, the Dog and myself went for a few drinks at the bar at Hilton. That nite, was my high school class drink up which went down well also. Having made it home from that quite late, and waking up to go to work, I felt a bit frazzled on Christmas Eve, but it wasn’t a heavy work day. I must admit I never made it to midnight mass on Christmas Eve, tiredness got a hold of me. Having showered at ’bout 9:30 PM the slumber thing crept over me quickly.

Christmas day was good. Had a small dinner with some family and friends. Was a bit tiring also being the host and having some of the cooking responsibilities myself. There was ham, roast chicken, escovietched fish, Chinese roast pork from Canton, my shrimp pasta, gungo rice and peas, steamed vegetables and a tossed salad. Dessert was either Christmas pudding or sweet potato pudding (some had both!)

In the night a few bredrins passed by for drinks, so I never left the yard on Christmas day.

Boxing Day was spent lazily in the morning. I got up at about eight to season some boneless chicken thighs. You see, Jamdown Canadian was having a BBQ by his place in the afternoon. Having come to my yard for a lime in the past and had pasta, he and his wifey requested me to cook same to add to the menu. So, seasoned the fowl, cut up the vegetables and seasonings and after eating some breakfast, went back to bed for about an hour or so. There’s more if you wish

In the afternoon, I whipped up the pasta, put it in a very large glass dish for presentation and after showering, headed up to Jamdown Canadian’s place. Vibes were good, spirit flowed freely, food was ample and so was the chat.

Part of the highlight of the night was seeing Daddy D on Royal Palm Estate as Judge. Had us all in gales of laughter. He tells me there’s more to come. Arrangements were made with CVM TV to dub the tape….one of our family members has big connections there! Never made it home ’till after twelve.

While I was there, I got a call from the Doc who was on duty on our service. Asked me if he was waking me up. I said, “No man, I here drinking and enjoying miself. Whappen?” He then tells me, “Well, you can have yourself another. Even though you are on call tomorrow, you won’t need to come in. Our sole inpatient was just pronounced by me!”

The news did not come as a surprise. He wasn’t doing well, had a lymphoma and wasn’t responding to the chemotherapy. He fought a long battle and in some ways, death was probably welcomed by him. Patients get tired of the constant jooking, drip and all the shyte that we as medics dish out in an attempt to help them. I’m one who believes that we must draw a line and allow people to go with dignity.

I woke yesterday to the sound of rain. In fact, the weather yesterday was very British…grey and rainy. The evening saw me making the trip up to Princess P’s castle in the hills. Angry D who wanted to meet her highness tagged along for the drive also. We were welcomed into her family home and I had sorrel and rum cake. Cake was excellent. On the trip back down to the flats (where the commoners like myself reside) as I landed at the foot of Norbrook Hill….the cellular rings. It was the hospital! I wasn’t daunted though. I deposited the Dog and Princess at the Rib Kage. After all, I guess if I have a large mongrel dog guarding the Princess, I have nutten to fear regarding her security!

Drove like a mad man up to the hospital, went into A&E, saw the patient and wrote my notes and was on my way once more. On the return leg, I shouted Scratchie to see if he could make the link, but he wasn’t able to. We will have to make better arrangements next time. The lime was good, but being on call I had to limit the intake of spirit. So, I only had two Red Stripe Lites.

After making it home, I eventually made it to bed. However, I didn’t sleep well…perhaps tengo cosas en la mentira (I have some things on my mind). Anyway, sometimes we just have to go with our gut feelings and do what we need to. So, I will see. I did eventually fall asleep though and dreamed all kinda crap….including that I was travelling and lost my passport and ticket, had a big argument with my Father….don’t remember over what. What’s up with those dreams?

All in all, it has been an enjoyable season. But it is not over ’till its over. On Wednesday night, a Quad link is planned. Myself, Angry D and some of his crew, The Princess and Yamfoot all have to be there. I will need to beg a favour though as my name is the one on the rota ’till Friday morning at 8 AM. Really would not go down well for me to get called at a time when I am enjoying the company of others, you seeit? So, I need to make some supplications at work today. Wish me luck. In addition, there is New Year’s eve….what is being done not yet finalised.

At the same time, I’m still thinking. Don’t necessarily like when I’m in these thinking moods, but alas, though I fully believe that God has a blueprint plan for our lives, I’ve said it here before that He gives us a conscience and the power to choose. So, we can modify that plan and make decisions that can affect what happens to us. Sorry if I seem to be talking in parables, but, I will leave it at that.

In summary, plenty food, plenty lika, plenty good times and laughter. Nice. Christmas is a wonderful time of year. Hope yours was just as good. Later.

Hey Doc, Sorry I had to rain on the parade last night. I know that whatever is on the cocoa will end in the correct decision being made. Take care.

Doc, this suggestion is pursuant to your comment at Jdid’s: cream together 1 cup ov butter and 2 cups brown sugar until light. Add 4 beaten egg yolks and 1 cup ov very warm milk; steam this whole mixture until it thickens, then remove thickened mixture from double-boiler (or any steamer) and add 4 beaten egg whites, stirring slowly. Finally, add rum to suit your taste.
