Yes, me deh yah!
Whappen crew? Well, I didn’t post anything this morning as my ISP was having some ‘issues’ which they seem to have resolved, as me deh yah now!
As I’m here typing I’m downing a Snicker bar…the one with almonds. I just love nuts. Doh gimme nuh milk chocolate…I naw eat it. Must have nuts. Love cake that have nuts inna it to….and ice cream. Yeah, you can see that I was having a sugar craving this evening, so I stopped at Manor Park Pharmacy on de way home specifically to buy the Snicker.
As I talking about sugar, I am reminded of a patient we have at the moment. The woman is diabetic and we are looking after a leg ulcer (sore foot) for her. In fact, she’s going to have it grafted soon. Woman came into the hospital with her sugar in the ceiling on account of her non-compliance with medications for some months now! Let me tell you, I’m not very tolerant of non-compliant patients. I not into the preaching at all. Ah tell you what there is that you ought to know, if you heed the advice, and it work, good for both of us. But, I caan tek de ones who do as dem please becaw dem know more dan us who study….in dat case you nuh can treat yourself, wah you coming to us fah? If I wanted to become a preacher, I would have joined the clergy (if dem would have me that is!
)
Anyway, I digressing. De woman is obnoxious and full of attitude. We have brought her blood sugar levels down to pretty good values. Apparently, she naw tolerate these normal blood sugars well…head feel giddy….claim she cyaan see good. On the ward round Monday, she dished out attitude to mi boss….for no apparent reason. We sorta ignored it. (Mi boss sorta a soft person…not to say that I doh have nuh heart!) The boss went on a few days sick leave on Tuesday, so yesterday, I was ‘in charge’ of the round. De woman a dish out her crap attitude again. So I asked her why she behaving as she is? Rahtid…I mean we are only trying to help her and she’s behaving in such an obnoxious way. She wants to dictate what sort of blood sugars she would PREFER to be having as she’s been doing some reading….. yadda yadda. So, me sorry. I had to lay down the law. I told her that while she is under our care, lying down on a bed in our ward, we will be the ones who call the shots. We know what’s best for her, and we are going to provide her with the best standard of care that we can with what resources we have. When she at her yard…is a different ting. We cyaan control what she does at home…we can only advise her. If she gwaan mek up fuss she may well see de door prematurely….sore foot and all! Cause trus me, her likkle sour face wid attitude isn’t pleasant to encounter at all. You all mussi tink me well miserable. No. But I don’t tolerate ungrateful folk well. Medicine involves meeting up with all types of personalities, but the ones like her make the work seem such a drudgery.
So, anything else going down? Acytually, some trough or suppem decided to pass over us today…place rainy from ’bout eleven this morning. On account of that, private practice was turtle slow this evening…all of three patients. Nutten new….Caribbean folk are dry weather people. Dem nuh come out, much less go doctor when rain a fall.
Tomorrow morning I doing the talk at the High School. I’ve titled it, “The Dark Side of the Bleaching/Browning Syndrome.” Basically, I going talk about the reasons why folks doing the bleaching thing briefly, remind them (tho I’m sure they well know) of the names of the products they using, and then show them some lovely photos I’ve taken of the bleachers and the skin side effets these agents can cause…hoping to get some compliance outta dem. Kinda paradoxical eh? I just said that I not into the preaching…but in a way, is preach me going preach yes…..to try get dem to stop pale up demself.
That’s about it. I not lingering much more as I tiyad and need to go get some winks. Sorry if the post was long and boring…but I doh have nutten else a gwaan now…was a real ad lib write still. Tomorrow is Friday
so, you done know! Easy.
January 27th, 2005 at 10:17 pm Have a safe day in Spanish Town, Doc. That dark-side-ov-bleach title is a catchy contrast. Hope de students take heed–although judgin’ by your stubborn patient, de odds ov that aren’t good. Guess it’s de dilemma ov spicy burn-out vs bland longevity. Yu know, “length ov life or quality ov life.” (Mi husband turned that into a rude joke once, but I’ll spare ya de horrid details:)
January 27th, 2005 at 11:04 pm Dr. D. You’re funny yu know. Express yuself yes, to that ungrateful ‘oman. She’s ashamed and her attitude I feel is her mask. She shameful she hasn’t taken better care of herself. Melody, I got the joke. LOL Goodnight-me haunted tonight. Cyan sleep.

God luck with your talk. I spoke to the boys out in Spanish Town and they are expecting you so you should have no problems.

January 28th, 2005 at 11:17 am ha ha, scratchie like he is a don fa true, ha ha Dr, good luck with the talk. and good going on dealing with that patient? You as a preacher? hmmm I’m just not seeing it
January 28th, 2005 at 2:29 pm this post reminded me I have a pack of M&M’s (almonds) in my bag!!! Thanks! Re the patient thing, I’m almost a compliant patient I think. One time though, went to the physiotherapist in England and she gave me some exercises. Went for follow up, having not been diligent in doing so, and as only the British can do, she told me in no uncertain terms thatit was for my own good. Now why did I have to be so honest in telling her that I wasn’t dilligent. It’s Friday and right now rain is POURING and I have a shower to go to today….get it,… get it…”shower” and it’s showering…
January 29th, 2005 at 9:12 am Well, I thought it was an interesting little post, Doc. Maybe you need to take a page out of Ludakris’ example… when she starts pushing herself up inna yu face you just bawl out “MOVE, BITCH!!! GET OUT THE WAY!”
January 29th, 2005 at 9:19 am Bull… a song go so? Well, I doubt that sort of vocab would be thought of as a reasonable bedside manner….but there are times that some of these patients will mek any sensible thinking doc stoop to far worse to rass!
