Friday April 1st.
Well, I don’t know if any of you are into the April fool thing, but I think it seems not to be a big thing, so I naw tek it on. If you feel to however, then so be it. Anyway, it is the start of a new month (number four already to rahtid) and the end of another work week!
This one was a bit truncated by the Easter holidays, but do you hear me complaining? So, I’m here just putting a few words together before hitting the bathroom and preparing for work.
Don’t have much to say, but have a likkle one to share. Now, in the years that I have been practising dermatology, I have come across numerous things that people will apply to their skin in order to self treat skin problems. These include bushes of all types, bleach, lime, ‘Blue’ (something that is dissolved in water to make white clothes whiter….comes as a little blue square about 1 inch….I think it may have boric acid in it….but I could be wrong), Dettol, Savlon, cow dung, stale urine (3 day old piss I’ll have you know the patient informed me!), aloe vera, cerasee….I may have forgotten some. Anyhow, you get the point.
Well, on Wednesday, I saw a lady at the hospital for a follow up appointment. She has eczema, pretty extensive as well. Now, in my opinion, she was improved over the last visit, and she agreed as well. However, she ran out of her treatment about three weeks before the clinic appointment, so she had started to flare up. She told me that after returning home from church last Sunday, she just could not stand the itching anymore. She said she was so distressed she was crying. She was told by a ‘church sister’ who had noticed that she was scratching badly during the service that she had a ‘remedy’ for her…….
Now hear what? I was just about to type what she had told me she applied to her skin here, but have decided to send you all on a guessing spree. Interactive, you seeit!? I am going to type the mystery remedy in the “MORE” section, but, before you click on it to get the answer, I want you to make a guess, and type it in the comment box. I will give you one hint….the remedy was liquid. If any of you gets the answer correct, then I will send you an evening of virtual VXs for two gratis….that should hold you for a Friday nite eh?
Thanks for making a guess at the mystery cure and before I forget, TGIF! ![]()

April 1st, 2005 at 4:18 pm Hi Dr. D.-Sperm???
April 1st, 2005 at 4:58 pm Heard some talk about a girl who used brake fluid or something similar to kill crab lice.
April 1st, 2005 at 8:22 pm Wow! So did she use it? Her skin hasn’t fallen off?
April 2nd, 2005 at 5:14 pm OMG… what a desperate move! Well, I guess some people while take desperate steps for what seems a desperate situation!
April 3rd, 2005 at 3:03 am When I was in the military they used to give us a razon, some lighter fluid, some matches and an ice pick to kill crab lice. You shaved half your privates and spray on some lighter fluid, then you light it and when the crabs run over to the other side, you stab them with the ice pick!.
April 3rd, 2005 at 11:22 am I believe it. People will try just about anything to avoid going to a doc! We sure could have used you here lately Dr. D. Rachel is now applying every topical thing that is available to her skin. Let’s see, we have Benzaclin and Differin for the acne/blackhead problem as well as Nizoral and T-Sal (shampoo with salycitic acid to dissolve flakes) for some skin problems on her head. Add to that some bizarre flaking and readness that has been happening around her eyes. For that, the General Med doc (couldn’t get in with Derm fast enough) recommended washing with baby shampoo and applying vaseline! My poor baby! We’ve been having a regular Derm party at our house!
April 3rd, 2005 at 12:38 pm Well, MB, indeed, she did use it (or so she told me)….and no, to my surprise, it did not cause her skin to fall off. Scratchie, I know very well how harsh brake fluid can be on a kriss duco job, so her skin must be pretty resilient! Sunshine….I thought that someone would have guessed sperm when I said it was a liquid….but I never expected it to be you…you always struck me as such a well behaved young lady!
