Monday again….
You will have noticed that I wrote nutten here since Friday. That is probably because the weekend readership falls, and lots of others don’t blog on weekends either. In any case, I had a pretty nice weekend, and I am sorry that it is back to work this morning.
Yesterday, I had great plans to walk in the evening, but the weather changed that…we did get some well needed rain. In fact it appears that we never got the downpour that they had in other parts of the island. This simply shows that Ja. is a fairly sizeable island compared to many of the others in the Caribbean. They are blaming the flooding on the dumping of stuff in the mangroves from the building of the highway. Hmmm. It brings to mind the thought I had recently when I dropped someone to the airport and saw the piles of sand on either side of the road that hurricane Ivan deposited on the Palisadoes. Are they going to wait for another breeze blow to have it block the road again? Or, do they think it should be moved….perhaps placed back into the sea? Somehow, it seems silly to leave it there, it just defeats the purpose of having moved it in the first place to me.
So, as the weather was wet in the evening, I did some abdominals. Today marks one week since I commenced the dietary change….no carbs with the evening meal. I am happy to report that things seems to be working…yup, the belly is smaller…clothes feeling roomier already!
Oh, I forgot to mention here that the annual blooming of our yellow poui trees started a few weeks back. But, somehow, they don’t look as spectacular as they did last year to me. I wonder if the drought we were/are experiencing has anything to do with it? As a consequence of that, I have not been inspired to photograph any. I mean, they are still nice to behold, but they were much more glorious last year.
Is there more going on? Indeed, lots of the same old thing here in Ja. that I really care not to share as I am not proud of the senseless killing that is going on. Actually, on Friday night, while having a few drinks with Jamdown Canadian, he told me that he knows lots of people in Canada who cannot see us who live here going out for a drink, lime or such. They feel we are boxed up in our homes because of the crime. Now, that does not mean that we live totally carefree, but a lot of what is taking place is in certain communities. But still….we do have to be careful. Crime can take place anywhere and at anytime. Anyhow, not going to dwell on this.
Next week Wednesday I have another funeral to attend…..the one for the guy who took his life. Many unanswered questions surrounding that. As I said before, I hope he will find rest. Anyway, another Monday has come around. So, let me do what I need to. Have a good and productive week….apologies about the ramble.

April 18th, 2005 at 2:35 pm was actually reading about some of that violence in the gleaner today, i can see why ya aint post on it. things just ruff.
April 18th, 2005 at 7:55 pm I know the feeling about posting the crime…makes you feel as if you are glorifying it. Not to mention that it presents a lopsided picture to anybody who reads. Wifey’s uncle will be buried on Saturday. church in Kingston and burial in country. Long day ahead. I go out but I’m just cautious about how late I stay out and try not to have a pattern.
April 18th, 2005 at 11:12 pm Nena, thanks for your visits and comments. I finally made it to your site.
April 19th, 2005 at 12:23 am HAPPY, er, Tuesday! Yes, you’re right, the web is dead on weekends, save your good thoughts for the week. I grew up in the shittiest neighborhood in Brooklyn. Seen more shootouts than I care to remember… if you dwell on it, you become the prisoner. Be smart. Know your surroundings. Funny thing is, in Brooklyn, the Jamaican neighborhoods are probably the safest (next to the Italians). They’re all homeowners, and don’t put up with the bullsh!t going on in other neighborhoods.
April 19th, 2005 at 9:11 am Good for you on the diet change and decreasing abdomen! Too many funerals. I have not been to any for quite a long time (I’m grateful for that). Good to hear you got ‘much needed’ rain. Too bad, however, that there is flooding on other parts of the island.
