Week winding down..
Well, it is Thursday already, and I have no complaints about that. See, that makes tomorrow Friday, and I have been reliably informed that it is payday on de morrows!
Not a hell of a lot happening. I was on call yesterday. The cellie was a ring plenty…(I cancelled my pager account recently….seems the hospital scarcely pages anyone anymore, and most of the younger Docs don’t carry pagers….so why should I be forking out the nearly $1,000 a month to have one?) Got a call in the evening from a GP I know. She is seeing one of our patients who I know pretty well. She says he is looking bad…wonders if he is taking his medication, and she thinks he needs admission. I say fine. He is going to stop at home for some clothes and get to the hospital by 7:30 for me to deal with the case. Fine…at least I can have my dinner and a shower before I head out again.
Just as I am finished with dinner, the Doc calls again. Patient has called to say he does not wish admission. He will continue taking the ‘herbal’ medication for his skin problem! I told her to tell him that he must find himself up to the Ward by 9 today. No later. He knows full well that if he continues to swallow the herbal thing, his disease may well get the better of him. I will see if he arrives this morning. The ever present influence of the ‘alternative’ practitioners on patients with chronic disease…..
Scanned the Gleaner and of all the stories in local news that they showcased, this is the only one that I thought I would link. Good news indeed, place is starting to green up again. Anyway, that is it from me for now. You tek it easy.
April 21st, 2005 at 11:31 am Hi Dr. D. Glad to hear you folks will be getting well needed rain. We got a little this morning but now it’s sunny. I’d imagine your cell phone works quite well when hospital wants to find you. Then to have a pager on top of that-too much uncessary expenses. Herbal medicine-huh. That’s probably what’s aggravating his condition fe true Have a great day.
