Laundry

Today is laundry day (not my most favourite activity) but quite often a time of personal reflection. (What else can one do while sorting laundry but reflect on the teeny weeny things of life!)

So as I was folding the clothes that get hung up as opposed to being thrown in the dryer, I came upon a pair of cotton pjs that I had gotten for Kidlet #1. This is a white embroidered cotten short pj set, which if I do say so myself is beautiful. Being cotton, it crushes as soon as you bat your eyes at it and thusly was very crushed after being washed.

Very momentarily I considered ironing the pj set…..then the thought was quickly replaced by “mi nevah mek fi iron pyjamas!!!” What could possibly be worse than ironing cotton pjs. Maybe socks….but who in their right minds would attempt that!? My Mother-In-Law is a wonderful woman. She enjoys ironing. She has even come to my house and happily ironed Popsy’s work shirts….and I just as happily let her….She irons table cloths, the collars on golf shirts, sheets and other such great things.

As most of you know, Popsy and I have been married for 20 years now and I must admit that at the beginning of our marriage I could easily have taken the much sought after award of “Worse Ironer in the World!”. My skill, however, has improved (even if only a little bit) after all, it would be a very bad thing if I had not improved somewhat in 20 years nuh true?!

But my ironing skills are not my best asset. Quite often, I wait until Popsy has completely run out of any wearable pants before I reluctantly pull out the ironing board and get things creased down the centre line again.

You may be wondering why one would chose to blog about ironing clothes…..if you can come up with a reason please drop me a line because I am not too sure myself. Except that maybe it is in an effort to accept responsibility for the steadily increasing mound of clothes gathering in my laundry room that need to be ironed and to take my many hats (mother, wife, ABA therapist, friend, Medical transcriptionist, sounding board, driver of kidlets 3 etc. etc.ect NOT IRONER EXTRORDINARE) off to those of us who seemingly LOVE the peace and tranquility that one can get from setting up that ironing board and steadily pressing away until the mound of crushed clothes becomes a beautiful, satisfying line of freshly pressed pants, shirts, skirts and dresses…even other odds and ends like pjs, table cloths, kitchen towels etc….

Yet again it may just be a ploy…a way of further procrastinating about the job of ironing that ever increasing mound!

Have a great weekend all!

You know, I know some people who iron as they wear… whenever they are going out, they take out what they are going to wear and iron it… Thats one way to not have to do the whole thing at one time, nuh true… What you think about that?
