">Seh wah????
Well, as the Brits would say…..I’m in a RIGHT mood this evening…(and I don’t consider myself a moody person). Now, if you read the post I did this morning, I made mention that today, being the 24th of the month, is Lodgement Day, as Payday is tomorrow. Well, that is how it is supposed to be… So, if things were as they were supposed to be, by now, my salary should have been credited directly to my current account……well, I have a short tale to tell.
This evening, on my way home, the cell rings. It is a colleague. She is on the ward completing an admission. “D….did you see the memo?” I reply….”Memo?? From whom…..” She responds, “The memo from Accounts, dated TODAY, which states that we will NOT be paid tomorrow on account of non-receipt of funding!!!”
Of course, I start to get brindle, as I never signed any contract to do voluntary work….much as I would love to have enough money that I could practice medicine in a purely voluntary situation and help the less fortunate. Yow, man have financial responsibilities yuh nuh! She goes on to tell me that people have called Accounts enquiring as to WHEN they will be paying and the reply is that THEY DO NOT KNOW!!! Nuh bodda wid me yaw!
Well, I can tell you. I have already called my boss and informed her that if they do not pay by month end…don’t look fe me come June 1. Clearly, the shyte lick rock bottom now, and this is simply an indication that is time to move on to other options. I can’t work in a situation where I have to wonder if I will get paid….too damn uncertain…that cyaan carry go give the mortgage company…and it won’t get you any groceries at Sovereign, you simi!? Mark you, since I started working where I am almost ten years ago, this is the first this has ever happened, but, its no sceret, the government bruck…(or at least dem only have money fe do wah dem want.)
Anyway, let us hope this is resolved pretty damn quick…or onoo might see me writing a blog post entitled…”Beg you a money!”
(See how me have to tek serious business and a mek joke.) I might as well go drink a VX on mi patio…at least dat pay fah already!
May 25th, 2005 at 7:57 am Hi Dr. D. I’m sure you’ll get paid but as you say, let this be a sign of things to come regarding where you will be practicing in the future. True-government can find monies for what they want. Try have a good weekend. It’s Memorial Day on Monday for us-no work.
May 25th, 2005 at 7:59 am Yow Doc, that be some serious shyte you talking about man! Here’s hoping they resolve this situation quickly, lest the government find themselves sans medical practicioners! Yes, it does certainly seem that time is drawing nigh for you to move into other venutres!
May 25th, 2005 at 9:20 am Hope they get you guys sorted out. We don’t get paid from government central budget so we don’t usually have those problems thank God. I agree them find money when it suit them.
May 25th, 2005 at 11:35 am wow! things sound brown. I hope ya get ya money but yea ya might have to get serious about the private practice thing cause ya cant tek empty promise and zero dollars to pay ya bills and mortgage and buy groceries.
May 25th, 2005 at 11:43 am Gov’t do luv tuh test peoples patience yuh. Ah bet dem won’t send dat memo to any of the political officers or de higher ups at the hospital. Just hang thight and if wunna doan get pay by months end ah say stike!!!!

May 25th, 2005 at 6:45 pm What a ra$$ of a day! Thanks for y’all support…it seemed to have had lots of clout…I wonder if Scratchie put in a word for us down at BOJ? Anyhow, I decided to go to the bank this AM before work….big mistake, 25th (payday, end o month)…..and de bank a lock early today in solidarity with the PSOJ lockdown of business at 1 PM this afternoon. So, nuff crowd. See, I had drawn a few cheques to pay bills yesterday expecting that money would have been there to cover them…now the account wasn’t dry, but at the same time, I don’t tek chance. Checked the balance at the ATM…no salary. Now I have NEVER had a cheque of mine bounce….can’t tek certain shame at all people. So transferred some funds from savings to current in order to cover the cheques. Ask the teller to give me the balance after the transfer relating the whole no salary business to her. She says to me, “Well, I see a credit from salary just come up on the screen!”
