Sigh of relief…
I tell you, each day that we wake up and go through our normal daily activities uneventfully, and go to sleep at night, we really should give thanks to God. Actually, I used to pray for my immediate connections, and then I expanded it to the world at large routinely when I was a yute, every night before I fell asleep. Perhaps I should make a conscious effort to do this again.
Last night at ’bout 9:30 PM I was here working on a document when poof….darkness plunges upon the land! Power cut to rahtid!
I naw smile, nuff claats a cuss because I am saving the document as I add to it, so yes, I going haffi type over some that JPS has now decided to tief from me! The outage lasts about forty minutes. Eventually, we are returned from the Dark Ages and I decide to come back here to continue the work I was doing, knowing full well that I would not be able to complete it last night….too long. I would continue tonight.
Take up me seat in my comfy chair and press the power button for the machine….silence! OK, try again…..still nutten, not a light, no hum…..zilch! Machine dead to rass! Now whole heap o claat a cuss! JPS has killed the machine…hopefully is just the power supply. So yes, me hold anodda big screw.
Well vex, I call mi bredrin saying that I going need him help, explaining what shyte a gwaan. I am to carry it by him on the way to work in the morning. Man go bed after watching some TV.
This morning I wake up. Clean the fish tank filter. Come here to start disconnect wires and I am taken aback….I hear a familiar hum……wait?
….sound like dis ting have life. The little green light is on…so I turn the monitor on….”No signal detected”……OK. Let me turn the machine off and see if she will boot up. PRESTO Damn ting has revived!
Sigh of relief…..you all know that good feeling you get when tension of any form is released…Ok…I won’t explain any further. So, I am still around and happy that I have no repair bills…(warranty on dis done in April as well…) I think I haffi chat to mi bredrin about investing in a UPS…..any of you waan sponsor it? I will be happy to receive the funds…trus me. You all have a good day, zeen?
June 1st, 2005 at 11:02 am Sound like your surge protector might not have completed starting up before you tried to use the machine–yes a UPS is certainly in order Doc, if you want I can get you to talk to my uncle to line you up with a good price

June 1st, 2005 at 6:24 pm Send me an e-mail with the ‘good price’ nuh AD. My bredrin is telling me about approximately $6G (Jamaican of course) including GCT. If you can beat that significantly then we can chat. The surge protector had started AD….the monitor and all else plugged into it came on….anyway. Kami..it was killed during a serious lightening storm about a year and a half ago…was not even in use or on….power supply, motherboard and modem were fried. Luckily the info was still on the drives. Due to some ‘jimscreeching’ by myself and MB, I managed to get the company (name witheld) to fix it unda warranty…..tell dem seh I doh know wah do it…it jus cyaan turn on! Never cost me nutten. But you won’t buss the secret now will you??
June 2nd, 2005 at 7:54 am Hi Dr. D-Glad to hear no damage done to the machine. I agree with Jdid-wha happen-yu no pray fe us in bloggland???
June 2nd, 2005 at 2:27 pm Three words “Coltron PC Shop”. It on Lady Musgrave Rd. just before the intersection wid Trafalgar Rd and exactly in front of Spic and Span. With a little help from my friends, I invested in one UPS from them last Christmas - and I thank the Divine for it everyday. We don’t have too many blackouts, but nuff-nuff brownouts. I think I would have probably spent that 12grand in parts replacement since then had I not got it.
