Dem sick stomach….

Posted in General on August 31st, 2005 by Dr. D

Jus a quick entry. I jus come home after a rough day at work and I leaving soon to go Terra Nova…anodda drug company a sponsor a dinner launching an acne treatment. Terra Nova food usually good, so I here preparing mi belly…naw eat the dinner that was cooked here…which is oxtail with broad beans. Then again, if the dinner at the meeting nuh ready I have yard to fall back on.

Anyway, this morning while getting ready to go work, I was watching the foreign news about the destruction caused by Katrina in the Gulf States. You know it….homes and businesses destroyed, nuff flood waters, no light, no water, food shortage, people dead, risk of disease, jus bare misery. But, what gets me is the LOOTERS! What the frig is wrong wid dem? Live to capitalize off the misfortune of others….dem sick man stomach. I hope if people who trying to guard what lef of dem business places shot up dem rahtid when dem find dem a teif…nobody nuh have shyte fe seh. Sickening likkle scavengers!

Anyway, I going hol a fresh and get ready to leave. Later.

Oh, to be King!

Posted in General on August 30th, 2005 by Dr. D

Hail up. I guess by the title you are wondering if all of a sudden I have acquired Royal genes…. (actually, I have always been Royalty…but I keep it quiet!) You shall henceforth refer to me as King Dr. D!…..no, not quite. Is joke me running.

I was just skimming through the Gleaner and stumbled across an article which is not too long and makes interesting reading….at least I think so. Now, apparently the King of Swaziland, a country with an alarming HIV infection rate, needs to choose a new bride….she will be number 13 (THIRTEEN) to rahtid! (As we woulda seh out here….Respec due rude bwoy!) So, in order that the King may have an ample selection of nubile young women from which to make his selection, 50,000 virgins danced before him! Each hoping to become the chosen one. Bwoy, I tell you…some of us live..others merely try to hustle up an existence! Oh, to be King. smily I wonder if my yute (but what a way I bright a style the King as my yute eh! smily ) use boots and practice safe sex!? Just a thought.

“I will make it a promise for the week coming which should see me not under too much pressure for time etc. Then again, that’s the plan, but one never knows wah kinda shyte a lurk ’round the corner……..”

That is a quote from my previous entry. Well, Sunday night at about 10:30 I was driving home and about three minutes away from the yard at a reasonably good clip….all of a sudden I notice that the temperature gauge on the Integra is running on hot! (Cuss nuff claat! smily ) A wah de ra$$ wrong now?? Anyhow, I made it home and realized that another water hose inna de engine did buss! So, that was the shyte lurking round the corner as I had to have it fixed yesterday. Never cost nuh whole heap of money…so I will say it coulda worse. After all, at least Katrina did not head in our direction. She woulda suck we up like a turbo charged Hoover to rahtid! Seems like them people who she blew going be under flood water for a while. Boy, look like Mother Nature very angry in recent times.

Have a good day people.

Sunday thoughts….

Posted in General on August 28th, 2005 by Dr. D

Well, I know many of you who usually come by this way may not prips this until tomorrow, but here I am putting a few thoughts down on ‘paper’…. (more the net really).

First of all, happy to report that the Bleaching talk went fine on Saturday morning. (Yes, I know, I still have not yet shared the thoughts with you all….I will make it a promise for the week coming which should see me not under too much pressure for time etc.) Then again, that’s the plan, but one never knows wah kinda shyte a lurk ’round the corner. I left the yard about 8:10 on Saturday morning to do the talk. I was speaker number two for the morning. Was supposed to be number three, but the original number two apparently got her circuits screwed up and went to the wrong venue, so they fitted her in later when she got her bearings. I never had many questions thrown my way. Basically, people found the talk not only enlightening, but entertaining.

On that note, mek me ask onoo a question. I not sure how many of you actually do talks on a regular basis. But, inna dis yah time and age, can you believe that there was a presenter who basically stood up and READ from a typed presentation!? No, she never use nuh Powerpoint. No, she had no overhead transparencies (outmoded nowadays anyway). Now, not only was her talk boring, but she went overtime by almost ten minutes. The audience was for the most part sleeping. Anyway, I guess everybody have dem ways.

Starting out early for that I finished with the rest of Saturday clear! Nil, nada pressing pon mi ass…nutten that really NEEDS to be done. At last. Sigh of relief. So, I left the venue by 10:30 and passed by the supermarket and reached back to yard. Decided that I would rustle up a pasta for dinner. Bought the fish and some other ingredients at the supermarket and chilled at the yard. Seasoned up the fish and held a likkle snooze after having two Tastee chicken patty for mi lunch. BTW, is $50 for a chicken patty now….$40 fe beef.

Later in the evening, I started to blast some music CDs on my mini set on the patio. Roped een a crew and we killed the pasta and some spirit till way after 11 last night. Good going. Nice when man can enjoy the comforts of yard. You go wuk everyday and sometimes is months pass that I doh know what the back yard look like.

I just realized that I have completely forgotten to look into the night sky for Mars….so I will do so later tonight. Jamdown Canadian supposed to have a big mofo of a binoculars, so I going check him for a look see.

Today I am on call, need to pass by the hospital after I hol fresh number two for the day to make a slight adjustment to a patient regime…no biggie really. It is all part of the work. Speaking of which, I cuss some bad wud when I received my payslip Friday you see. We have had the number of staff taking call on our Unit reduced from four to three. As a result, we are doing more duty days per month than previously. Yes, it means more money. But I tell you, dem fassys a chop dem cut outta it. If I tell you how much me pay fe Income Tax dah month yah! One o mi bredrin claim seh me a wuk fe PJ and Omar! Bwoy, I tell you, every way man turn, dem squeeze you balls! PAYE (Pay As You Earn) is a dutty likkle —-claat (insert you favourite!) smily

Last but not least, what a beast hurricane Katrina has become…Category 5 to rahtid with winds up to 165 mph. Respec due. I hope dem folks in New Orleans and the vicinity have evacuated and battened down. My birth month, September, starts Thursday and my birthday is the 10th. Last years was salt. Rufie came for it and nutten did gwaan but nuff rass breeze sake of Ivan. I keeping all appendages crossed that we shall not have a repeat performance this year when I hit forty and two! Thanking the Lord God that He has spared me this long. There are very few gurantees in life and I never knew I would have got this far. Doh read me wrong, I not ready to get bowled outta de innings yet (yes Yamfoot, the Doc actually using a cricket analogy! smily ), there’s still plenty more inna dis ting called life that I can and would like to experience. And there is lots that I have already done that I have no issues repeating! smily You all enjoy the rest of your Sunday, and the week to come.

Friday here again…

Posted in General on August 26th, 2005 by Dr. D

…and no complaints on my part. It has been overcast and rainy since yesterday and no different today..think it has suppem to do with Katrina. Never even realized that it arrived in Fort Lauderdale yesterday taking two lives. I going give mi cousin Beloved a call this evening.

Now, in recent times, nuff of the news I find does nutten to lift a man spirit….in fact, news is often depressing. However, it is refreshing to learn that suppem good seems to be going on educationally here. Apparently the CXC passes in Maths and English this year are better than last. Good to hear. Big up the teachers and the students. I remember my days inna high school…English was easy fe me…but Maths….’till dis day me nuh know how me did pass!

On the same trend of thought, I saw my boss at the drug launch last night and she was beaming as her daughter (who had thought she did badly in her exams) managed to pull down EIGHT distinctions (Ones) in her CXCs! I also chatted to Jamdown Canadian last night and his son who took English and Maths in Fourth Form, also hauled down Ones. Big up and nuff respec to the two of them.

Tonight being Friday and post payday, I really should be heading outta street, but sake of this talk in the morning tomorrow, I will probly just hold a spirited beverage here at the yard, or at one of mi bredrin’s place. See, I am supposed to start chat at 9:20 tomorrow…..so if anything tomorrow nite will be the real Friday. It nuh matter…..R & R always welcome, any day, anytime.

One of mi peeps who is usually a cool dude, but can sometimes be a deep thinker, (no Mad Bull not you….which part o you can think deeply!? smily ) asked me a question referring to the bleaching talk that I’m doing. He wanted to know why we do not target the palers who are doing the reverse? Going to the beach to bronze demselves or tanning salons etc. My reply was that we do. Dermatologists have long preached about the harmful effects of UV light and the suns rays on pale skin in particular. But, just as many of the bleachers naw listen to we, nuff light skinned going on dem merry way a bun up demself and predispose themselves to cutaneous malignancies. Get some of these folks to use sunscreen nuh? And BTW, this does not apply only to Caucasians….there are many shades of ‘black’ skin, and sunscreen should be used by plenty of our own people. Being pretty pale myslef, you not catching me at beach without…I burn pretty damn quick. Anyway, enough of me and my preaching. I don’t really like when my discussions here tek on too much of a medical slant….this is not a medical website at all.

You all have a good weekend you hear. And remember, if you can’t be good…just be careful! smily (Interpret dat any way you rass want!)

Nice day so far…

Posted in General on August 25th, 2005 by Dr. D

Yeah, yeah. I been liming here in front o de DELL since about 8:30 this morning. See, I took a day of departmental leave in order to prepare this talk I giving on Saturday about skin bleaching. Thing is, I had done the talk previously, but the audience was different…high schoolers. So, I looked at the Powerpoint presentation from las nite and made some changes. Basically…I more or less done it from last nite. smily So, I been scouring the net for some articles, in case any likkle wise ass asks me some question after the talk to try frig me up. I tell you, nuff tings out there. This bleaching thing is a scourge of black people and is a matter of public health now. I am now ready to take on a study to determine the prevalence of it in Jamaica, as we have no studies with figures locally. Get mi name into the literature!

Apart from that, weather is grey and overcast today, no rain yet but I am sure that will come in the afternoon. I get the feeling that after I have me some lunch I going hol a lay down and snooze….is not often I get to be home on a weekday to rahtid…so tek as we say in Ja. ‘disadvantage’ of a siutuation….why not?

I head out to private practice about 4 PM and then head to a drug (pharmaceutical…in case you were wondering wha kinda ‘drug’ me a was a chat bout) launch tonight at about 7ish. The invi. never said dinner…..but I going reach nevertheless. Work again on de morrows. ‘Till next post…..walk, ride and drive good…you hear?

Just some stuff…

Posted in General on August 24th, 2005 by Dr. D

..to hold your thoughts for a moment this Wednesday morning.

First off…today is the day before payday…i.e. Lodgement Day…so if things go as planned, by evening my current account balance should be much more prosperous. Then again, some utility bills inna mi briefcase which I going pay today, so as the funds reach so, de bill dem ready fe nyam it out! Anyway. That is how it go.

Chatted to my travel agent yesterday. Asked her to put in a booking for me as am going to St. Vincent, Kami’s country first week in November for a conference. So, she calls me back to let me know it is done. I ask her what is the approximate cost of the ticket. $27G (about $450 US) if I pay for it by this Friday! I tell her I naw travel ’till November…why would I be paying from Friday? One never knows what can happen between now and then…is just that I hearing seat availablity from Bim (where I have to fly to first) to Kingstown can be tight….which is on LIAT as well….a carrier that I would avoid if I could. She tells me, if I don’t pay by Friday, BWIA going cancel the reservation and she will have to rebook it. I say….go ahead. Mek dem cancel and you rebook. BTW, I will be at Beachcombers Hotel, Kami. Seems to me to be the best of those that were recommended…any thoughts about it? Anyway, still a two months off.

Finally, you done know that we rude bwoys often have the goodly Vit S on the brain. Actually, I think lots of females do also, just that they probably won’t readily admit that is so it go. Well, I saw a little article about marriges where couples do not engage in sex. It defines a ‘non-sexual marriage’ as one where the couple has sex TEN or less times for a YEAR! Bwoy, if you ask me, as a young man that is a serious drought. Need to do some serious analysis and get to the root of the problem. Most rude yute I know would be most unhappy with dem sorta stats. If you interested, prips the article nuh. It not that long.

Anyhow, as I had mentioned, jus a gie you suppem to read this morning. So, I flashing. Tomorrow, hospital naw see me. Boss gimme de day to do some stuff including put the finishing touches on the bleaching talk for Saturday. So, will probly wake a bit later than usual tomorrow. smily You tek it easy.

Flu…cho!

Posted in General on August 23rd, 2005 by Dr. D

Whappem? Actually jus passing chru. Not much to post about today. There is a wikid rass flu going round and it seems I may be getting it. It is not as bad as it could be yet, but I doh feel 100% A bit sniffly and slight headache despite going bed early last night and sleeping good. Anyway, whatever. Some Panadol and the usual vitamins better do the trick cause I not inna de mood fe dis shyte. In addition, I giving talk on Saturday morning.

I glanced throught the Gleaner this morning. I not linking anything there…too damn depressing.

Hope you have a alright day.

Hmmmm…

Posted in General on August 22nd, 2005 by Dr. D

Hail up. Yes, it is Monday and this is pay week! Weekend gone was busy but enjoyable for me nevertheless.

Now, I really had no posting fodder up until when I was glancing through the Gleaner on line while having some breakfast. I came across a letter which you must read in order to make a comment. While reading at first I started to wonder if the author was a man. But then again, I said to myself, the writer did start out by referring to …’when I was expecting my first son’….

Let me just say that I find the ideas expressed by this lady about the fairer sex to be quite strange. Now don’t get me wrong, there are good and bad men and women. However, most of the women that I know are in my opinion good souls. They go way beyond the call of duty to raise their children with good values…..(many without the assistance of the man who impregnated her with his seed). They are not con-artists and most if not all of them work. They are nurturers. I can say easily that I long for the soft warm touch of my own Mother’s hand on my head when I am feeling ill.

I find this writer’s ideas of women skewed. But then again, I am not sure what her personal experiences involved. Maybe she has issues with those of her own gender. But I beg to differ. Sorry I don’t have more time to chat about this, but I will end by asking you for your views. Have a good week.

Friday shout out!

nice street.jpg
Hail all crew. Greetings and salutations! In a great mood this morning. Slept like a baby who had just suckled milk from his mother’s breast….sun is shining, weather is cool as the temperature has dropped due to a front passing over us and dropping plenty rain. So, I man kriss. In addition, in case you forgot, it is Friday…can’t wait for this evening.

So, as I’d like you all to share in a similar mood as I am in, I decided to post a photo that I took while I was visiting my sister, bro-in-law and neice in July. This is the main road they live on..Sushkahanee Trail. Most people call it Route 4 I think. Pretty nice photo from Marc Antony’s car eeh.

Anyhow, thats is my offering for today. All you who hail Friday, might I wish that your glasses never run on empty, may you have nuff bredrins sharing pleasantries and all that is good. Have a great one.

Madness!

Posted in General on August 18th, 2005 by Dr. D

Wake up in good time this morning. Having breakfast and doing some surfing, answering couple e-mails. Then I see this Gleaner headline and I sink in my seat. My mood changes. More for gas, more for light, more for water, more for telephone. More, more, more….. What of salaries? Dem not moving. This is just madness people. I am at a loss for words…the ones I can think of only end in claat! smily smily
