Hmmmm…
Hail up. Yes, it is Monday and this is pay week! Weekend gone was busy but enjoyable for me nevertheless.
Now, I really had no posting fodder up until when I was glancing through the Gleaner on line while having some breakfast. I came across a letter which you must read in order to make a comment. While reading at first I started to wonder if the author was a man. But then again, I said to myself, the writer did start out by referring to …’when I was expecting my first son’….
Let me just say that I find the ideas expressed by this lady about the fairer sex to be quite strange. Now don’t get me wrong, there are good and bad men and women. However, most of the women that I know are in my opinion good souls. They go way beyond the call of duty to raise their children with good values…..(many without the assistance of the man who impregnated her with his seed). They are not con-artists and most if not all of them work. They are nurturers. I can say easily that I long for the soft warm touch of my own Mother’s hand on my head when I am feeling ill.
I find this writer’s ideas of women skewed. But then again, I am not sure what her personal experiences involved. Maybe she has issues with those of her own gender. But I beg to differ. Sorry I don’t have more time to chat about this, but I will end by asking you for your views. Have a good week.
August 22nd, 2005 at 12:21 pm Hi Dr. D. Excellent letter, not in content but the topic. I’ve just finished reading a Chapter from “Expanding the Boundaries of SElf” by a new Jamaican writer ont he scene Oliver Jobson. The Chapter is entitled “Woman-The Center Influence”. One line from this Chapter sums it up -”Women sustain the home and they mold the nation’s fate”. How true that is, but as we all know, some mothers and fathers have bad parenting skills and can really screw up their child’s value, morals and everything that molds us into who we are. Some of us need psychological help from bad parenting. Some of us make it into some semblance of normal rational thinking and some of us just don’t….hence being in situations of “nobler intent”. Mr. Jobson also goes onto write “women hold and nurture the seed of every human being to be born. They are the gateway of creation and house the very souls of every human. Without woman giving continuity to huan existence, this earth would be barren and devoid of intelligent life. All great men and women were born to mothers who gave them the right mental, physical, emotional and spiritual environment to blossom into greatness” we hope. I totaly believe that the position of mother and of woman, as a woman is our own responsiblity to hold that position in the highest regard. In the majority of instances, our mother is our first major role model. I disagree with the article that women have a “nobler intent”. Bull. Stop blaming men. WE all have choices so make the right choice. Women, honor your needs and don’t compromise your standards, is what I say. Be responsible for yourselves and stop blaming others.
August 22nd, 2005 at 2:13 pm Actually dr i have to disagree with ya more and agree with the letter writer. we have a skewed perspective on gender roles but alot a wicked women bout the place star. evil, wicked, scheming women but unlike the men where it is straight in ya face and ya can tell who is who most a de time they usually have some sort of cover for the evilness an ya go bout the place thinking them nice and lovely an ting cause them smile in ya face and act nice most a de time but ya doan know what them scheming. some of dem wicked ta rass even worse dan the men!
August 22nd, 2005 at 3:20 pm I don’t really disagree.I get the sense she saying that women are expected to be perfect when in reality they really flawed.Like everything else you get the good and the bad
August 22nd, 2005 at 4:42 pm Well of course there is another side to the story and women are great, beautiful, special, essential, etc… but I do see some of what the author is getting at and in fact have experienced it first hand. A lot of the bad stuff some women do are excused away under saintly pretenses and if you as a guy object well then you are often considered a representative of the oppressors, inconsiderate, etc.
August 22nd, 2005 at 6:56 pm I am sure she used to be one of my prefects in high school. That name sounds very familiar. All people have both good and evil in them
August 22nd, 2005 at 9:25 pm Well JDid, I guess we agree to disagree. But, I still not ready to say nuff o dem kinda woman about the place. I still say most women I have come to know are pretty decent. maybe my circle is sheltered…who knows. And I do agree with Yamfoot….there exists good and bad in both genders. I still think this author got issues to deal with….
August 23rd, 2005 at 2:26 pm I agree with the letter writer, with Jdid, and with Yamfoot. Women are just people, like everyone else. People have the capability to be multi-faceted. Very complex things, people… on one side they can be good, nice, good mothers, etc. and the same woman can be a bigtime bitch to her co-workers, sabotage other women, thief other women’s men, cheat on their lovers, steal money from their companies, etc. The woman who wrote the letter does seem to be making the point that Kami raised, rather than hitting out against women as being the root of all evil, IMHO. She right, Doc, face it! M.B. say so.
August 23rd, 2005 at 8:20 pm Well, MB, I disagree with you too. Not the first or the last time.
