More about Vincy trip

Well, as anyone who travels to a new place does, I have more to share about my trip. First off, the photo is of a little yacht I took in the waters approcahing Bequia (pronounced Beckway)..but more about Bequia in a while.
Kami is apparently not too happy with how she looks in the photos she took with me. Though, quite frankly, I see nada wrong with the lady’s looks. She’s a slim young lady with a cute face and smile and a rather nice Vincentian accent. Maybe if you all keep hassling her she will give me posting rights…so keep asking her…zeen?
Apart from the usual meetings and talks there was ample social activities planned. Our assocition shares a true Caribbean spirit, so nuff liming was on the schedule. The Thursday night we found ourselves trekking up into the hilly Vincentian interior for a dinner session at the host’s home. Nuff soca music, nuff beverage of all sort, dancing, liming, chatting and of course….food…what a curry goat sweet nuh rass. As the Trini’s would say…..”Oh gooosh!”
Saturday night, the conference culminated with the banquet, which was held at Young Island. Young Island is about 500 yards out from the beach at the hotel where I was stationed. A three minute ferry ride and we arrived. Food was excellent…..there was so much I simply could not sample everything. Of course, I have more to share…..
The major lime of the trip was on Sunday….which was essentially chill out day. Tired and weary from all the work and activities, we headed over to Bequia, the largest of the Grenadines….(correct me if I wrong, you hear Kami!) Bequia is about eighteen miles from St. Vincent, and very lush, green and hilly with some lovely white sand beaches. A one hour ferry ride gets you there. The ferry pulled out at 9 AM sharp….right on schedule…..(LIAT could learn a lot from the ferry operators)…..nice ride too. The sea breeze and the undulation of the vessel caused by the waves was a irie rass feeling…I tell you, dis a de life my people. All my cares were momentarily forgotten.
Once we arrived, tour bus was waiting to take us to a nearby white sand beach, which we got to in about five minutes. I wasted no time getting into the crystal clear water. Cross the concrete road from the beach and we were at a bar/restaurant where a buffet lunch was being prepared for us. Now, listen me, the smell of the food cooking got me and nuff odda man salivating….in addition to one and two o de dawtas who were flaunting their stuff on the beach!
Now, after my swim, it started to get grey unfortunately. In about fifteen minutes, a literal storm was passing over….nuff rass rain and breeze.
We were not daunted….nutten was going to rain on our parade. I roped een a crew at my table. Solja Derm, Curacao Derm and Blondie sat down with the Wikidskindoc and we shared nuff chat and joke. What was the brew of choice? The local lager called Hairoun (pronounced Hiroon)…..damn good beer too…sorta reminds me of a better class Heineken…less bitter than Heineken too. See it inna de picha.

Well, one beer led to another, and soon, de man dem at my table including myself had each downed four pints…and it was just after midday. Now, starting to feeling well vibes up from the Hairoun, we needed to get some of that wikid smelling food into our bellies. Fish, chicken, pasta, salad…me cyant even memba. All I can seh, it did sweet out claat. Eventually, dem started to play some nice Luciano, Beres Hammond and soca, so dancing was a gwaan. All in all, a great way to end the conference. Sadly, we went back over on the ferry at 5 PM. Lots of locals who were rallying for the ULP inna dem red shirt came over on the ferry as the Prime Minister was to announce election date in Vincy that Sunday night. So, big bashment in town was planned…I hear seh de government rope een Destra to rahtid!
Anyway, onoo can see me have more to chat about. In the coming days I will let off one one more photos of the trip. Manana I return to work with a heavy heart…but a so it go. Keep on blogging…you hear?
