Tower Of Babel

Bwoy, I don’t think I have had a Christmas season with as much good links with bredrins and family as this one before. I have really been enjoying myself. Come next year I have to go on an alcohol avoidance spree for a while…..I’m sure my GGT (a liver enzyme that helps detoxify alcohol) must be abnormally high at the moment! But, wtf, we live once, life is short and made to be enjoyed. I and just about everyone I flex with work hard to rahtid to earn the breads, so if we splurge a bit more in festive times, I am not making any apologies.

The New Year approaches. In times past, I used to make resolutions…I find I seldom keep them. What I prefer to do is make plans for myself that are practical. I have a few, I am not bothering to disclose them. But, hopefully, with the help of God I will be able to achieve them. I hope that you will be able to do the same for yourself.

Another thing that I think about as a New Year approcahes is, who that I know is going to pass on. Sounds morbid, but it is a fact of life. This is one of the reasons why I live it up when I can….we know not when our number will be callled. You may be wondering what I will be doing to welcome 2006. Actually, the early part of the Eve is open. I may well be baking the other picnic ham….the first one nearly at bone! Anyone who wishes to link me….feel free…..the bar is still stocked…..though the VX is really being tested! (Is not me drink it off…a mi bredrin dem! I can hear the, “Yeah rights!” ) In the night, I will be in the company of Legal Aid, Eye Doc, Jamdown Canadian, Healthy Femme, Miguel L and other bredrins and family. Chinese food will be the fare and some fireworks will be let off. No party costing nuh whole heap o Gs. All should be fine.

Let me take this opportunity to wish for you all, A NEW YEAR FILLED WITH GOD’S RICHEST BLESSINGS AND PROSPERITY!! Ring it in any way you see fit! (No Auld Land Syne for me at all…hate that song…makes me very sad…..) Happy New Year when it comes! See you in January.

Yes people, last night while having liquor and finger food at La Kabana, Dr. D (myself), Mad Bull, Cali J, Stunner, Scratchie, Shotta M and Owen (not pictured) met each other. Now, I have known Scratch and MB since high school, so no biggie there. Just renewing old acquaintances…..and MB deh yah for a bit over a week now. All I can say is that it was a wikid encounter with irie vibes. Fiyah bun fe de one Angry Dog who tendered an apology because of suppem dat ‘came up’……..Yeah right! We also thought that Cool Destiny would have linked but she didn’t unfortunately. So, essesntially we ended up having a ‘bull’ lime….and onoo know how dat go. Lika, bad wud, ribbing, etc etc etc. I believe we all enjoyed it and I look forward to another in the future. So, there you have it. Owen had to leave a bit early, hence he didn’t make the Olympus moment. But, a nuh nutten rude yute. It was apleasure linking all a you. One plus was that the bartender is a member of the St. GC Blue and White crew like MB, Scratch and I.

Anyhow, I not lingering too long right now. Maybe later I will convert the names into proper bloggage links. I hope Kami’s curiosity has now been satisfied!

Bwoy…..where to start eh? I know, I have been in absentia here since Christmas….that is because there has just been mucho a gwaan…after all, this season is a once a year bizniz. So I may well have to precis this entry as me not into any long argument right now…..(actually me feel like go back a mi bed and sleep some more…but the WURK deh pon me again!)

First off with the effries that was a haunt me. The Integra es enfermo (is sick). Y el hospital del autos esta cerrado, abras en el ano nuevo! (And the garage is closed, it won’t open until in the New Year!) Yes bredrins and sistrens, the car needs a cylinder head gasket. As y’all know, my yute Mad Bull deh yah con la familia. Links been good. I loaned rude bwoy the Integra first day he was here and de suppem overheat and buss a hose pon him! Sorry rude yute…you know it wasn’t intentional. Anyway, long and short of it is cyar going to be outta commission ’till inna New year when they reopen. Mucho problema. Big man cyaan flex widout wheels…..so I had to put on my thinking cap…..how or where can I get a vehicle without paying any rental money!? Aha! My cousin Sprigadee is gone to her sister Beloved inna FLL for the hoildays, and she naw come back ’till suppem like January 14. So, made a call to her hubby and I was told that I am welcome to have the vehicle.

So, Doc is now flexing inna one likkle Nissan Sunny. The AC not that great, no power windows and is the 89.9 FM deportee radio….but hear wha? It drive, it naw bruck down a road…when trouble tek you, pickney shirt fit you! So, I been jazzing over city Kingston with it on the holidays. And the holidays have been great. Christmas Day was here at the yard. Boxing Day at Jamdown Canadian. To sum it up I have been having a rass of a time. I believe if you were to take my blood now, all that could be detected is VX and coconut water! The food has been great, ham, ham, ham……anything else? Yeah, but ham rules. I may have to do the second one before the coming weekend. Linkages with family and bredrins have been taking place aplenty. And, once linkage gwaan, juice follows.

Den hear wah……Remember that I said Mad Bull and crew roped een? And that they were staying here at mi yard? You know seh the ungrateful likkle blurdcleat tek up and gone down him sister-in-law house? Watch me and him the next time him reach airport and waan hold a pickup.

MB: Yow, Dr. D. me reach yard again.
Dr.D: Yeah?
MB: Yes my yute. I’da like you pick me up at airport still.
Dr. D: Pick you up? Fe wah? My yute…….JUTA Taxi still run to rass.

Jus cool rude bwoy. Is joke I running. I understand well what happened and when it did, I wasn’t really surprised. I nuh feel no way. Jus easy.

Yes, so I been living it up to de max. My bedtime has been averaging 2 AM…….plus or minus one hour. Today I am going work yes. But hear the pluses. This week we have no clinics. I am NOT on call for the rest of 2005. So, essentially, is half days ’till Friday (which I am considering holding as a day of Departmental leave…we will see…)

Tonite is the blogger link up. Am looking forward to putting faces to the names that I don’t know. Please, all concerned, try make it to La Kabana by 7:30 PM. I believe we can just sit at the bar and have drinks. But if food is involved we may need reservations. I am sure that more VX a go get consumed. From reading Shotta M, Cali J and Stunner….seems my liver enzymes may well be put to the test again! Well, it is Decemeber 25th here at mi casa. It is a very overcast morning, quiet and cool. Have the radio on FM….carols playing. Nice. The house looks like Christmas…far more of a site to behold at night though when the lights on the tree and those adoring the bar counter and patio roof are switched on.

The house smells of food of all manner being cooked….roaster chickens, curry goat. I am to slice the ham up a bit later for presentation on a platter with some pineapple slices, cherries and ting. Aunt J is doing a salmon pasta. Aunt A is bringing macaroni and cheese. There will be gungo rice and peas, steamed broccoli, cauliflower, string beans and carrots. Have I forgotten anything? Maybe…Sorrel is here, Christmas cake is here. The bar is stocked. God has blessed our home and allowed us to have health and strength to see another season to be jolly.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year for me. There are downsides though. I miss Mummy. My sister, neice and bro-in-law are in chilly Pennsylvania. But alas, life is never ideal, is it? We just have to work with what we have. I think we need to plan for a Christmas….maybe ‘06 that as much of the family that resides in foreign, make the trek home and we have one rahtid Christmas dinner bashment….and make it a reunion. Sounds like a plan, nuh true?

Despite those who should be with us and aren’t….at least not physically….it will be a good day. I hope that you all enjoy the holiday season with your families and bredrins. Don’t overdo it though. Hope to meet many of you at the blogger link up Wednesday…La Kabana at 7-7:30 PM. Merry Christmas.

Anyhow, let me just say that I have been negligent of you all for a couple days sake of effries that did a gwaan inna man life. Man did frus out. But, things have been sloved, at least temporarily at least. So, I am back on track and here to wish y’all a MERRY CHRISTMAS! Bring on the sorrel, rope een the ham (dat a go bake later), slice up the Christmas cake, say TGIF, sip juice and nyam food with bredrins/sistrens and family….and don’t forget the Big Guy…after all, that is who it is all about. Rosita looked at Pedro and said, “OK, one time, we’ll play Weeweechu.”
Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang…..

Well, in case you not ready to tek it on, or you don’t have any ‘Crismas spirit’, it naw wait on you. Sunday is the big day. I am more or less prepared, food in da house, the shopping essentially done, and I think the ham may get baked tomorrow evening (the first of two). I prefer to get one that is not too large…when you buy a really big one it stay in the fridge too long and dry out.

Dem suppose to pay us tomorrow, which should make today lodgement day. But, knowing my bank the money naw reach the account ’till late tonight. Anyway, whatever….some bill paying haffi gwaan tomorrow.

Don’t know if I mentioned this before….the head not quite as good as it used to be (and even at its best it did slip up sometime)….anyway…..Last week I saw a ‘blind’ man at one of the major traffic lights here in City Kingston begging a Crismas money. White cane and all……the cane even have a Crismas decoration tied ’round it. I immediately became very suspicious. I watching him…….he going up to car window and stand there…eyes almost closed as if he is photophobic…but shyte…him nuh supposed to be blind…how de hell him photophobic? I tek him een some more. The lady whose car window him standing by shakes her head indicating that she not giving him any money. And, as she does so, he quickly moves to another motorist, same thing happens, and as the man shakes his head, him gone again. So then, if him blind how de backside him know dat the person a shake dem head!? Damn rass ginnal. Mek him stay deh a feign disability to get money. God naw sleep. It is another thing about Christmas that one needs to be weary of….the opportunists. Careful in your everyday business…it is easy to get ‘caught’ by these types if you not careful.

We have our final clinic for the year tomorrow…..(do you hear me celebrating?), but today is regular work day. Have a meeting tonight and then I have an airport run to make about 10 PM. So, it is essentially a full day today. I notice that in many corners, blog posts a get scarce. I guess people a tek holiday, so, in the event that I don’t hear from you all before. Have yourselves a MERRY CHRISTMAS. It has been great blogging with you all in 2005. ‘Till next time…..

Peeps. The weekend gone was the last one before Christmas…so, lots of stuff that needed to be done. Plus I was on call. As a result, bloggage got sidetracked. Sorry ’bout dat. The Christmas tree is finally up, it got put together by yours truly Saturday evening. Doesn’t look bad either. Have to decide which evening this week is for ham baking. I feel Wednesday may be the lick. Some presents to wrap and cards to write up. Have to find suppem fe mi Pops this evening on the way home from work as the crowds are going to be out in full force.

Payday has been confirmed to be WEDNESDAY! Usually they would pay us about the 18th-19th of December…..whatever….long as de funds reach bank. Me nuh have nuh bonus to get. So those of you that do can send some my way. Muchisimas gracias.

Anyhow, just a likkle suppem to let you know me still alive and kickin…..I will try see if I can gie you peeps suppem more fe hold on to in the evening to night hours…..so ’till that time….hol tite and be careful when you navigating the streets and plazas in preparation for the Christmas. Whole heap o fassyhole ’bout de place now….not to mention the heap of mad driving pickney dem who come een like leggo beast pon de road. Lataz.

Yes, as I had mentioned, I took the lady out to dinner on Wednesday night. Sunny has a pleasant voice and personality…..if you’re having a bad day, just listening to her puts a ray of sunshine into your day. Meeting with Sunny makes either the fifth or sixth individual I have met through blogging that I did not know previously. So far, all meets have been positive encounters.

Anyway, we went to Bamboo Village Restaurant for dinner. Sunny had Won Ton soup and I had Hot and Sour Soup for starters….along with a VX and Ginger Ale…(they had no coconut water). I wasn’t able to get Sunny to indulge in alcoholic spirit…..oh well. We decided on a Subgum Warbar, Pork with Muk Nee (or Yee??) (which is a kind of black fungus….that tastes irie) as the main course. Food was damn good. Sunny referred to the trenton as ‘melt in your mouth pork’! There was scant food left after we both indulged.

During dinner we chatted about all manner of stuff and I think we now know each other better. A few photos were taken but Sunny prefers not to have her face on the net (not that anything wrong wid it!), but I have been informed that I can e-mail them to individuals in the blog circle. So, if you want a pic, drop an e-mail addy in the comment box nuh.

Sunny was kind enough to give me a little gift. If you have been reading here long enough, you will know that my morning hot beverage of choice is tea, I do not drink coffee at all. Well, she came bearing the gift of two boxes of Twinings Earl Grey Tea for which I am very grateful. Thanks again Sunshine. Had a cuppa same earlier and am now ready to get prepared for the day at work. Sunny returns to the Sunshine State bright and early tomorrow morning. I will give her a call to wish her a safe and on time departure this evening before I head out to say TGIF.
