Thursday trivia…

What up peeps? I here having lunch at home…some left over chicken soup….it taste irie. I really haven’t been blogging with mucho gusto since the start of ‘06. Lately, I finding ‘free’ time to be scarce, and I spending less of that free time at home. A sort of work hard, play hard ting. Anyway, while driving a short while ago, I was listening to the news on the radio…as I scarcely watch TV, so am sometimes oblivious as to what a gwaan outside my circles…that can be a bad thing still. So it go.

I heard mention of there being ‘unrest’ in Spanish Town…..again! Apparently due to the killing of the ‘Don’ of the One Order Gang yesterday. Of course, my initial response is, ‘Anodda one less to rass!’ Tiyad o hear about dem an dem uprising whenever this happens. Evidently, there are rules and laws by which some of the people who live in this country live…the rest apparently make their own. I’m really sorry for the lawabiding citizens of Spanish Town who perhaps because of their circumstances have to endure the mayhem and live there, rather than try to move to an area that is less ‘inflammatory’ for want of a better word. In addition, this sort of ‘ruption only tarnishes further the present lack lustre image of Jamaica that exists in the foreign media. (Depsite that image, look at the amount of folks who made the trek here for Jazz Festival. Almost a paradox eeh?)

Moving along to other unlrelated stuff of a more personal nature. I man was in smiles on Monday morning. I was handed a letter by our Ward Secretary that was addressed to me…from the hospital administration…as I reached to work. (Course, me wondering if is de letter stating that mi employment has been terminated with immediate effect! Not that I feel they would have any reason to do so….but one never knows…..) So, before I started my usual duties, I man buss de envelope…..well the news was decent…I man been promoted……to a more senior position…retroactive to January 1, ‘06! smily Of course, me scroll down….to prips the new salary and increased rates for taking call. Not three bad I guess. Course it means more effin Income Tax as well! smily Anyhow, I give thanks for the appointment. In actual fact, it is a capacity in which I have been working for the last three years or so, but just haven’t been officially appointed sake of the ‘blockers’ that exist(ed). It took retirement of one or two individuals for me to get the green light. And BTW, my immediate boss and the Head of our Department are by no means the fossils that I’m referring to here. I’m sure y’all know the type of Tyrannosauraus Rex to which I refer…every organization has them…..

Anyway, as they say, good things come to those who wait…that is of course, if you don’t die while waiting.

What else a gwaan? Well, apparently it is Black History month. I got a call from the Presidente of our local skin association on Monday, requesting my help with a talk. Immediately..me deh pon mi guard. What topic, and when is this talk for? ‘The talk is for Friday’…..my reply, ‘Of this week!?’ smily ‘No way, notice much too short!’ She then goes on and tells me to slow down. She knows I have the talk already. It is on the side effects of skin bleaching….it is a talk to highlight these effects to high school teens. Ok, I did slow down as I did the same talk last year about August. Have the CD filed. So, I consented. So, tomorrow afternoon I am going to do the talk and try to get the message of not to bleach across to these teens. Wonder if I won’t be chatting to deaf ears though? This means, no clinic in the afternoon for me tomorrow. SO….I should be able to get off to a slightly earlier than usual TGIF! Hope you will all be able to say the same. And, if not, start your TGIF tomorrow whenever you can. Peace.

As for the violence, I feel it for we Caribbean people, it hurt me heart. Yes, talk about the bleaching. I once wrote a post called Morning Dancer, about a dark girl on the seawall, and how beautiful she was.
