Ironic and sad….
I am on a day of departmental leave today. A combination of chronic tiredness and needing some extra time to prepare for this talk that I am doing in MoBay on Sunday made me take the day. I will be getting a lift down to MoBay and have decided to fly back up to Kingston on Sunday on our national carrier Air Jamaica.
While finishing a likkle breakfast and skimming through the Gleaner on line before heading down the road to do some bill payments and get myself a haircut…..the newspaper headline is what I see first. Yes, even the children of our country realize that things are amiss. Even they are crying out for an end to the madness.
Then, almost ironically, the next item of news is about a woman who is stabbed in a robbery attempt after leaving the Stella Maris Church and subsequently succumbs to her injuries in hospital. Not even in the yard outside God’s house is sacred eeh? I have nutten more to say! I gone.
March 9th, 2006 at 10:38 am People can only take so much mayhem and confusion. then they will rise up, so the children are looking out for their future.
March 9th, 2006 at 10:48 am It’s all really disheartening isn’t it? Instinctively you know the crime situation can get worse, but when you see the images of the 2,6, 8 and 15 year olds who are being murdered it just turns your stomach. And yes, apparently the days of churches being sanctuaries are long gone
March 9th, 2006 at 5:24 pm sad, sad, sad. Is it that we are copying all the negatives influences from outside the region.I don’t know but it is ridiculous all these killings
March 9th, 2006 at 9:35 pm My yute, what a terrible thing re the killing of the woman at church?! Yow, that one is close to home, you know! A bredrin who works over here and who is back and forth a lot told me he knows a woman and her daughter who were robbed within the last couple of months too. They live in Arcadia and since they live so near to Stella Maris, they walk to church. On the Sunday in question, they were walking to church when a guy rushed them and grabbed their handbags. The daughter put up a fight so the guy drew a half a cutlass out of his pants and chopped her on her hand! Bwoy, I have to warn Mamacita about going to church now!
March 10th, 2006 at 9:03 am Following the article on the news about the lady murdered at Stella Marris was a story about how murders have dropped 23% compared to this month last year… why doesn’t it feel like that?
March 10th, 2006 at 2:31 pm really sad
March 10th, 2006 at 4:41 pm Kingston Girl, that is because even if there has been a 23% decline, the ones that continue are so brutal and senseless that it seems as if there are more or just the same occurring. Just my opinion.
March 10th, 2006 at 8:48 pm This country needs to be purged, litterlly! the crime situation in this country is totally out of hand!
March 11th, 2006 at 12:15 am Yes Doc, nowhere is safe now. Someting has to be done about this situation. And doctored figures stating murders are down 23% does not help the situation. All that is is false hope.
March 11th, 2006 at 12:19 am My Aunt frequently plays the organ for that church, and I have shot many weddings there. Now I am really worried about her safety!
March 11th, 2006 at 11:03 am Stunner…I am flying back from MoBay but I certainly did not book a 1st Class seat! Immigrant…like I mentioned earlier..have nutten more to say…I lament for this nation. It is gone.
March 13th, 2006 at 8:23 am We forget, even doctors get tired, eh? As for the children…I keep hearing a song on the radio, ‘don’t blame it on the children.’ It’s what the grown-ups are doing…
