Some chat….
Thursday already to rahtid! Not that me complaining…imagine, Monday was a holiday and me looking forward to tomorrow already. If only there was a way that I could have funds to live well and not go to work…..any of you have any suggestions? Feel free fe leggo dat ra$$ in the comment box! If the idea is workable I might be inclined to let off a smalls or buy you one of your favourite brews!
I had mentioned that the Easter weekend was spent getting a fair amount of rest. Well, yes, there was that. And, it felt good to be waking up at 8:30 and 9:00 in the morning feeling rested. I doh think I realized how tiyad the brain and body was.
Last Saturday, as most of the peeps that I chill with had decided to remain in town for the holidays, I decided to have a little lime here at the yard…or MOUJ as Guyana Gyal would call it. So, as one who likes to plan ahead, I had mentioned it to most of the crew from Holy Thursday and went to the liquor store to replenish the bar stock….I had no Johnnie Walker Black and needed a few bottles of Yellow Tail Shiraz. Everyone welcomed the invi. I decided to make a fish pasta and do some BBQ-Jerk chicken…..in the oven. Yes, it woulda did nicer over an open charcoal fire, but I man wasn’t inna all dat heap o ray ray. Light up the oven and shub the chicken in deh….much less wuk.
So the meat was seasoned from early Saturday morning and I got to cooking at about 5:30 PM as I had told the peeps to rope een for eight. They weren’t too bad about time, and I must say that we all enjoyed ourselves. Bellies did well full and spirit was aplenty, both liquid and vibeswise. I find that I much enjoy flexing at someone’s yard nowadays, over paying big money to go somewhere and nyam food and beat juice. I guess it is all ’bout the vibes and who in the crew. Last of the company left about 1 AM, by which time, after preparing food, entertaining and VXing, the bed did look and feel sweet.
For a lot of the weekend, I found that I spent a fair amount of time watching programming on National Geographic, and Discovery Channel….Travel and Living……(You may be wondering why Disc. Trav and Living!?) Why not…who seh me cyaan get a prips of how people who a shit money can live? Least I can try to emulate what I see even if I doh have the ra$$ dinero to match!
One thing I been noticing about that channel in particular. The one my cable cmpany gets is from a Latin American or South American country…probably Venezuela. Now the shows are broadcast en Ingles…..pero, los avisos (adertisments) are all en Espanol. What I have noticed is that the people in ALL the ads are caucasians…..nobody looking even mixed or slightly pigmented. Wha dat fah? Is it just me, or does it seem a bit polarised from countries where the population is not exclusively blanco? I guess it won’t be the first or last of that sorta shyte…..
Anything else a gwaan? I forgot to mention that the Yellow Poui trees had their blooming in the last few weeks. Initially, the blooming didn’t seem as spectacular as in previous years, but it picked up. I didn’t really take any shots of any as I have posted many in past years. Time kinda have me by the cojones (balls) now though (this post going mek me reach mi work late), or I would link you to a post with a pic from time gone…maybe later.
Anodda ting I have noticed is that the price of gas has slowly creeped back up. Precious stuff now averaging anywhere from $56-58 Ja per litre. Unfortunately, personal gaseous emissions cyaan put inna mi tank……or you done know seh nuff stew peas woulda get nyam as a conservation method! (TMI eeh!?)
Anyhow, lest you all start to accuse me of chatting nutten but fart….time go go visit the boyz room in preparation for work. Easy.
April 20th, 2006 at 10:58 am Nuthing but fart… Ok, sure… the “workable” alternative is Lotto, and my favorite beverage is Smirnoff Black Ice. LOL. Try working these numbers 05, 07, 15, 54, 86, and 77. (I have no idea what the hell I’m writing… all I want is a free Smirnoff Ice.) “MOUJ” means..?? BBQ-Jerk Chicken.. YUM YUM!! You got skills man! “who seh me cyaan get a prips of how people who a shit money can live..” LOL!!! Its true. I used to watch Home and Garden sometimes to see some of the great houses on it and fantasize as to what I’d want my future house to be looking like. On Travel I’ve been able to go to places that I know that hell would freeze over before I was physically able to go to. The gas situation has gotten quite dreadful now. The prices per barrel has now risen to $72 US. Thats scary! Inevitably, the price increase will be transfered to the necessities on which we rely. First among them will be the power bill. Then you wont be complaining about gas being $58 per litre. It’ll rightly be around $100. Now there’s something to make your cojones go back up in your abdomen. Here’s an article I came across about the lowest and highest gas prices worldwide (in US dollars). Oh.. gwaan a work!!
April 20th, 2006 at 12:20 pm Doc, here’s a money-making idea for you. Being a dermatologist, why not get together with a chemist and come up with a face cream or line of skin products using mostly Jamaican plant-based ingredients. There is a treasure trove of material right there in the countryside that your grandparents used to use to bathe, take care of hair etc. It is just to identify, extract the ingredients and bottle/jar it in an attractive package and give it a nice name. Serously, do the research and see if it’s doable.
April 20th, 2006 at 1:30 pm gas going through the roof over here too. pretty ruff
April 20th, 2006 at 2:30 pm Kash….right now I doh have nuh Black Ice inna de fridge…only the other one….thanks for the advice, but Lotto hasn’t worked for me yet…but I will give your numbers a try…..probably up in Fla. when I go on leave next month. Payoff in USD better…tho if I win the local one I wouldn’t shun it. I doh know the actual meaning of mouj….I assume it is Guyanese slang for lime, session with food….check GG out. BBQ-Jerk is easy…just buy the bottle in the supermarket and season the chicken and then marinade it in the sauce…works like a charm. Cooking is easy rude yute…..practice and try a ting or two, you tun good in no time. I like your idea Pauline….will see if suppem can come outta it. JDid, I jus passed a station famous for being amongst the most expensive in Kingston….boasting at $59.90!! RAAA$$!
