Midweek ramble….

This is jus a likkle midweek ad lib post. Now, can you believe that I actually had wanted to post this morning before work? So, while having my cuppa Earl Grey, I was tring to get to the posting page……but evil forces were prevailing against me. Every time I tried to get to the page, no luck….some shitty likkle coded suppem kept coming up! smily So, I surmised (possibly incorrectly) as me nuh name geek or techie, that the fasseys in charge might have been doing some maintenance or upgrading…who knows? Anyway, time passed and work called, so I had to lock down and head to the boyz room to do some stuff before heading out.

Anyway, things seem to be copasetic (back to normal) for now, so here goes. Guess who has started walking again? Yes, I have finally mustered up enough inertia to get this body that is frequently at rest, in motion. I went for the first time on Monday evening, and this evening made round two. I still haven’t been able to make it up the hill twice, need to get a bit more fit before I can. Still, it feels great. A lovely breeze was blowing off the hill this evening as well. Felt good on the sweaty skin.

Had a near encounter with someone’s Rottweiler (not a breed of dog that I am particularly fond of). Anyhow, after a few loud claats were let off by yours truly, I saw a rather fragile looking woman emerge from the front door of the house calling for ‘Monty’ and apologizing for having him rush out after me growling and barking. After all, far as I’m aware, I nuh smell like a popular brand of dog food! Anyway, there were no teeth sank into the flesh of my legs….which are not that meaty anyway…..

Inkeeping with the attempt to lose some weight, I have recommenced the diet that forces me to have no carbs with the evening meal. So, if you saw my dinner tonight, it looked very much full o veggies except for the meat. I will see how this progresses. If things go as in times gone by, suppem positive will result.

Saw an article in today’s Gleaner highlighting Jamaican Blogs. However, I note that the writer has mentioned none of us in this crew……..what is up with that? smily Anyway, so it go. Maybe next time.

Other than that, what else is there to chat about? Hmmm…not a whole heap really. Oh, I jus memba. Monday night, I was typing a comment on the Angry Dawg’s latest post. As it has been a while since we heard from him, I was trying to be witty and post a comment to the tune of…..”Good to hear you. I was wondering if you had become like one of the barkless dogs that the Arawaks used to have…..” Now, for the life of me, could I recall the name of those dogs. Now, trus me, I was by no means any scholar when it came to history. For one, I saw no reason why I should have to swat all them frickin dates…..made no sense to me. Anyway, that still did not mean that I didn’t learn anything. Sure, I did know suppem about the Arawaks (now more recently called Tainos). They were thought to have been peaceful people who could not stand up to the more warlike Caribs. They did imbibe quite a bit of liquor and they used to hunt conies with their barkless dogs. I thought, and thought, could not recall the name of the mutts. Eventually I did a Google search. Sure, the dogs were mentioned, but I still did not see a name for them. I almost gave up and something said…..”Gwaan go check the bookcase with dem old books…..” Yes my peeps! Found my old copy of “History of Jamaica, by Clinton V. Black.” Flipped through a couple pages and there it was. The barkless dogs were called ALCOS. How many of you recall that? Still, the name did not sound familar at all to me. I just hate it when I am supposed to know something and it slips the memory. I guess CRAFT is very much at work. Or maybe some Arawak Zemi (god) was ensuring that my memory circuits did not connect on Monday night. Who knows? Anyway, that was just a bit of a side track. Hope you aren’t already yawning or falling asleep. Dat a de lick fe now! More time.

Bumbo claat! I was having issues getting to the site this AM too. I thought that maybe there was some unscheduled maintenance by our hosting provider, but now I am wondering if there was some evil, malicious deviltry affot. I was trying to post a comment to your blog entry when I got an error message about the program which allows commenting could not be found. I logged in to the site to look around and saw that someone had renamed the comment program. I have put it back to its original name and commenting ability has resumed. I am now wondering if some kind of massive comment spam attack was going on and the server admins ran a script to rename the comment programs to foil th e attackers or what? Further checks will have to be done…

Whoa. My brain creaks when reading Jamaican patois like a CPU with low memory. It’s so much easier to speak it, but, ironically, I find difficulties reading it. Speaking of reading, I hated reading my History book. It was the most effective lullaby for teenagers at the time. I went into the exam with an intention of only writing my name and leaving with the aim of getting a 4, simply so that I wouldnt be marked as absent, thereby preventing me from graduating. However, my attention was grabbed by the first question which read: “Which of the following groups were inhabitants of the respective islands shaded on the map above?” The possible answers were a) Caribs b)Arawaks c)Mayans. I saw Jamaica shaded, and instantly knew it was the Arawaks. As I was about to leave the exam, I saw another similar question of little difficulty, and one thing led to another, until I ended up doing the whole exam, and lo and behold, got a Grade II. Despite that, I don’t think I even remember the names all of our 7 national heroes. I think there was one called Paul Washington Sharpe of the Maroons. Or something like that. Oh well…. I could check the front of a $500 and verify.

Yeah MB….gwaan do you investigations. I wonder if the problem stemmed from someone phucking around the site as a sequel to the story on Jamaican blogs that I had linked? Kash, yeah, nuff peeps have said that our dialect nuh easy fe read. As for history, I dropped that shit after 3rd Form and opted for Geography (we had to make the choice) which made far more sense to me. And, might I add that when I did it in CXC General, (’twas the first year it was being offered) I man did hold a I! Oh, BTW, I believe the Paul was Paul Bogle. The Sharpe was Sam Sharpe. (But I could be wrong!) Stunner…glad to hear that they have emancipated you from the shackles of the study world. Hope you mash de exams and we looking for nuff post now!
