9.76 to ra$$….
Well, yesterday afternoon, for some strange reason, we had a low turnout of patients booked at the hospital clinic. Anyhow, I didn’t complain, it meant that I could leave much earlier to start the weekend. I got home by 4 PM and logged on to the compi while sipping a well cold Red Stripe….(yesterday did hot nuh rass). Linked a bredrin on IM who mentioned to me that Asafa Powell’s world record at the hundred got frigged by Justin Gatlin yesterday! Of course, nuff claat did leggo!
Why? Me nuh like dah yute deh, nor him bredrins Crawford or Greene! (Probably because of the fact that they IMHO are arrogant US athletes.)
Anyway, I see where they will be meeting up again, in London on June 12th. Now, plenty betting a go gwaan as to what the outcome of this will be. How do I see it….not that I am any sports analyst, but here goes.
The way I see Asafa, he is most definitely talented. BUT, I feel he gets intimidated by the antics that some of these US athletes put down before running an event. Furthermore, if it is just one of them putting down their stuff, it may not be too bad. Different case when is two or worse three of them getting up to their tricks. Cause the way they see it, long as one of their Yank countrymen gets the gold, that’s all that matters.
So, our bwoy Asafa will need to try to concentrate on what he’s doing. It won’t be an easy task to break the 9.76 as he will now be the one who is pressured to do better. Will the venue make a difference in terms of temperature? Hopefully not. London in June should be relatively warm. Anyhow, I wish our bwoy the best. And, I will be dipping into my pockets and wagering some funds on him bussing Gatlin’s you know what. The race will actually be run the day after I return home from leave……I have a feeling I know where I may end up watching it…..at the yard of a bredrin with a big screen TV. What do you all have to say about this, and who you putting you money on?
May 13th, 2006 at 11:39 am Got to go with my C’bean brother on principle.
May 13th, 2006 at 1:14 pm Asafa, naturally.
May 13th, 2006 at 1:18 pm Doc, will you be in the Tri-State area for your vacation?
May 13th, 2006 at 4:11 pm Kash, I will be in Pennsylvania for the first week and Florida for the second.
May 13th, 2006 at 6:31 pm zeen.
May 13th, 2006 at 8:07 pm I’d like Asafa to win but I agree with you on the intimidation business. I don’t know who’ll win because of it.
May 13th, 2006 at 10:17 pm Needless to say, I’m rooting for Asafa. Like Ali used to do in his boxing prime, US athletes use bluster and bravado to psych out their opponents. Asafa just needs to tune that out and he’ll be fine. I am just so proud of our athletes, mi nuh have tongue fi talk! Asafa can definetely take down Gatlin!
May 14th, 2006 at 3:40 am Well Asafa’s comment to Gatlin breaking his record was “Let him enjoy it while he can, the world record is on loan to him and I will be reclaiming it soon” nuff said. Asafa just has to develop tunnel vision whenever he’s on the track and he’ll be okay. Afasa all di way.
May 15th, 2006 at 6:36 am good luck to asafa. to be honest though I really dont rate gatlin like crawford and greene, he was decidely subdued at the olympics compared to those arrogant s.o.b’s. still i dont really get too excited about track these days anymore cause sad to say things so tainted that i figure everyone juicing
May 15th, 2006 at 9:37 am Asafa anyday. Those US A-holes are just all about psychology and Asafa keep falling for it. He needs to just forget them and run as fast as he can. I know he can beat them.
May 15th, 2006 at 11:04 am Asafa definitely - and the race is in gateshead, not London. People ‘up north’ of England don’t take kindly to all the showing off and poxing that the Americans will do… so hopefully that will help asafa!
May 15th, 2006 at 11:15 am Thanks for the correction KG. Here is an article that says that there is doubt that Gatlin may be there in June! I guess we wait and see eeh…
May 15th, 2006 at 1:58 pm I heard it too. “Afasa” got beat by a 1/100th of a second! Damn close!
May 15th, 2006 at 5:07 pm Since I barely follow sports… Asafa?
May 15th, 2006 at 7:39 pm Sent you a short note -=e=-
