Here at last!
Whaapen my peeps? I know some of you are wondering wtf happen to de Doc…. well, an explanation follows. No, I hadn’t decided not to blog…let us say last week was a rass of a week, lots of happenings.
First off, my cousin’s Grandma…(she really isn’t my Grandmother…both of mine are long deceased)….but I was close to her… got sick again. Was recently diagnosed as having cancer of the colon with spread to lungs. She was to be ninety nine years young on the 28th of this month. I’d say that by most standards, that is a hell of an innings….(much as I doh give a shyte about cricket).
Anyway, due to her advanced age and the stage of her disease, she wasn’t a candidate for surgery, chemotherapy or any such heroics. That would just kill her faster than the disease. So, it was decided to allow her to live what time she had left with family, and with the most reasonable quality of life that she could have ’till the Big Man above called her number. Well, she had a good month or so after having her diagnosis made. Monday gone she started vomiting again…..clearly, her intestines were obstructed. It didn’t make sense to take her back to hospital to get all confused and ting again. They wouldn’t really be doing anything for her. So, I was assisting with some IV fluids, drip etc. at home where she had her family and a Nurse looking after her. Well, her number was called last Friday, she is at peace now. We all know that you are OK Mrs. C. You were a good soul. RIP. It was a pleasure to have been able to assist you with some basic medical care in your last days, and I am better off for having known you from I was a yute.
This still does not explain my MIA status. Tuesday night I went to a meeting. Got home late and went to bed. Got up Wednesday morning, head out to the patio to feed the fish as per. All seemed well. Got ready and headed to work. In the afternoon, I am in ICU seeing a patient referred to our service for a consultation. My cell rings…it is my Pops. Says he has bad news. I assume seh somebody dead. No…so what then? De frigger dem nuh bruck into the house!
Instantly I am mega pissed! Fukahs prised out three of the wooden lats we have on the patio creating a gap about eighteen inches wide and simply helped themselves to what they wanted. Indeed, the sad part is that we were probably in deep sleep and didn’t hear a sound. The dogs were not barking either. Is some bloodclaat tief inna de area dat know and watch the yard, and probably know the dogs as well. I feel is the same one(s) that stole my briefcase outta my room using a picking stick about two years back. I guess I can say thank God, we were not hurt as they were not able to get into the house proper. But, it is still frightening. Is as if a man hol me down and bore from backways to rahtid….violated! Scorpion dem come eena mi personal space, mi yard, mi sanctuary!
What did the rasses steal? My CD player and all my CDs! Nutten else. Surprising still…as there were more valuables out there. So, Police were called and dem did reach. Came to take prints the following day….not that I’m hopeful anything will be recovered.
Long and short of it is that we have decided to remove the lats. Construction began today…concrete it will be. Patio going lose some of its relaxing feel, but a so it go. See, we are the ones who mus go buss we shirt at work so that these rasses can come ’shop’ for what dem want when dem ready! Live like prisoners inna we yard. At the moment, the work is not finished, and that leaves the patio open, so we have a night watchman. I have told him dat anyting him see try come een….chop up it bloodclaat! Rude bwoy was sharpening up the cutlass not too long ago!
As a result of the violation, I haven’t been sleeping well, and there was nuff pressure at work last week also. This explains my absence. Anyhow, I was not on call weekend gone, and it was time for the Portland practice again. I also used it as a way of forgetting the week of woes and happily, I saw eight patients…the most I have had since starting there. So, word is getting ’round.
Anyway, I am going to leave you as I man tiyad and need to hold a fresh.
BTW, interesting World Cup so far eeh? The Germany/Argentina match shudda wikid. I feel seh the winner of that match carries home the cup. I backing the Argentinians, but dem German man dem look like some soljah! Anybody wagering dinero? Mek me know who your team is….I might be game for a bet too. Later. I will try ketch up wid all o you in this week.
June 27th, 2006 at 2:47 am Hello Dr. D, I saw a comment that you posted on someone else’s blog just a few minutes ago before I clicked on your name and was brought to your blog. The comment was regarding skin lightening creams and the dangers; also the relation to the pressure women feel in various european, african, or caribbean socities to use them because “lighter skinned” women are “favored” more. I am a 21 year old male and I’ve had issues with acne over my teen years. My acne isn’t as bad as others, but it’s still a mild case which I would like to resolve. I used “Stridex” which are facial pads which can be bought any Us store. I used it twice a day for about 2 years to help reduce my acne. They worked during some periods and other times they didn’t. About 2 hours ago, my father recently made a comment about the skin on my face being darker than usual in more areas. My forehead, sides of my face and cheeks are darker than the skin area around my eyes. I noticed this about a year ago but I assumed it was due to the sun (since my arms got darker as well). He had warned me to stop using the Stridex facial pads but I was desperate to help get rid of my acne. Tonight, he made some rude remarks and even after an hour later, I’m still sitting here letting those remarks bother me. I am home on vaction from college for about 2 more weeks and I’m thinking because he hasn’t seen me in months maybe that’s why he noticed my skin being the way it is… I came online to find some safe alternatives to help use something to lighten those areas around my face. I searched “skin lightening creams” but also looked up the dangers. I feel helpless like there’s nothing I can do to help solve a 2nd problem I have created for myself. The things I have read in the last hour have left me confused as to what I can do solve the dark areas on my face. About a month ago, I began using Pro-active, which is an extreamly popular acne medication marketed in the US known to be effective to most usuers. So far, I am seeing decent results but now the comment my father made along with my observation leads me to want to correct the darker areas on my face. Are there any alternatives besides bleeching (which I am opposed to doing) the the skin with a chemical? I apologize for the extreamly long comment, but I figured since you are a doctor, I could get your general expertise. -Sean
June 27th, 2006 at 3:53 am Hey Dr. D sorry to her about the passing of Mrs. C. And on top of that to have to deal with a burglary. Messed up for real. As for football. I say Argentina over Germany in the next game. Not willing to bet on the winner though, I think a bunch of teams have strong chances.
June 27th, 2006 at 7:26 am To Sean, I would say….see a Dermatologist and stop wasting money with OTC preparations and Pro-Active….the equivalent of which you can pick up in any pharmacy. I really do not use this site to give out medical advice, patients are best seen on a one to one basis, in the proper place….an office or clinic setting. Yeah Shotta M….the win could go any way in this WC.
June 27th, 2006 at 10:31 am Damn tiefing edjats. My house was broken into a year ago, got home to find everything thrown everywhere - so I had the fun of watching the police come round to inspect, who seemed to spend a lot time in my room where the contents of my underwear draw where strewn across the floor. Nasty feeling though - hope you feel safe again soon
June 27th, 2006 at 11:55 am Sorry to hear about the break in Doc. Ruff week indeed. This too will pass.
June 27th, 2006 at 3:01 pm Doc, I’m so sorry to hear the bad news. I’m sure Mrs. C appreciated your efforts to make her passing more gentle. None of us could ask for a better friend than you. As for the robbery…I can understand totally. When I was at school, my bicycle was stolen, and the contents of my car tossed. Luckily there was nothing of value in the car, but they made it obvious how easy it was for them to break into it. I miss the bike. It was a good one. And yes….you do end up feeling violated. It’s really too bad that your patio will change because of them. Congrats on the 8 patients at Portland! Your practice is growing. *S*
June 27th, 2006 at 5:13 pm Doc I dont think either Germany or Argentina will win. I’m going with Brazil. But for the game that just finished, I was going with Spain, who lost. Sorry about the burglary, and the bereavment. Yes, 99 is a good innings, she was at the crease for the long haul. RIP.
June 27th, 2006 at 8:11 pm Thank you all for the sentiments about the break in. Construction of the longer of the two walls (the side the friggers came thru) is more or less complete. Already the patio is darker and has a more ‘locked in’ feeling. Rass people….we live in a topical country and if we want an outdoor feel to our homes we do so at the peril of our safety. (Shaking head.) RI, Brazil is definitely in the runnings, but somehow I just doh feel them this World Cup…..not sure why.
June 27th, 2006 at 10:55 pm Hi Dr.D just wanted to leave a comment to tell you sorry about the rough few days you’ve been having. feel better
June 28th, 2006 at 5:28 am Ok. I say it will be a Germany/Brazil final. Brazil should win, but Germany could surprise them. Argentina won’t get past Germany. So far, I have only been surprised by France. I thought Spain would kick their butts. I am not unhappy though, I like France. I am just sorry I couldn’t watch the game. My conscience wouldn’t let me thief the time to watch both the Brazil -Ghana match and the France-Spain match, so… Despite losing, Ghana put up a wonderful show! They were playing better, except for finishing, and I agree with their coach, the second goal was scored by a man who was offside.
June 28th, 2006 at 1:16 pm my condolences on mrs c and sorry to hear about the break in. i can understand how you feel now, its really a violation of your life. them fellas want beating to within an inch of their life
June 28th, 2006 at 5:20 pm Sorry to hear about your recent loss. Dem phuckas we bruk you place an cost yuh money whe yuh neva plan fi spend fi get some rass lick in a dem knee wid some pick axe stick. Is dem ting de why country people chop up dem rass. I give Germany the edge because of home field advantage….they are two evenly matched skilful teams.I hear a lot of Brazilian fans praying that Argentina win the match because they would rather not face Germany.
June 28th, 2006 at 6:51 pm I know the feeling when somebody tries to or breaks in your home.It really makes you feel jumpy and uneasy.Thank God,nobody was hurt.Your neighbour had a full life-pity cancer had to take her home eh I hoping argentina wins
June 28th, 2006 at 9:11 pm Doc: May the good lady rest in peace. She was blessed to have a gentle passing at home with family and friends. So many elderly in North America die alone in hospital or nursing home. I can imagine how you and your dad must feel to know your space was invaded like that. Sorry if I talk about the “good old days” when I was growing up in Jamaica. It was so nice to sit on the open verandah and feel the evening breeze without an iron bar in sight. Now, every time I come home it is very jarring to see how people are locked in as if in prison. Sad indeed. I pray someday things will change for the better in that regard. Thank God these thieves were only after property. You may want to think about a surveillance system if the cost isn’t prohibitive. The fact that the dogs didn’t bark may mean it’s someone with whom they are familiar. So check that. Sean: Don’t let your father’s putdowns bother you or affect your self esteem. Some are just like that even when they love you and are good in other ways. Go see a dermatologist and take his advice.
June 28th, 2006 at 9:16 pm Pauline, thank you. Your comment is almost Motherly in the way it reads…and I hope it does not make you feel old when I say so. Indeed, we are prisoners in our homes here. Yes, I think it may well be the same mofo(s) who stole my briefcase a few yrs back. These people watch and plan, they know our movements….after all, this is THIER way of working!
June 29th, 2006 at 2:35 am Sorry to hear about the death. She lived a good lifespan, a lot longer than many. As I always say, “tief fi dead!” Damn bastards, I hate theives.
June 29th, 2006 at 12:55 pm Wow. Sorry to hear about that. We all have our bad times. You’ll recover.
July 1st, 2006 at 2:27 pm It sucks to have your house broken into. And it seemed like it was some petty thieves to! Hush Dr. D. I’d be real pissed if all my CD were stolen! Bwoy, the football a get real interesting now. My team gone home today so I’m going to my back up team now .. Germany.
July 1st, 2006 at 10:23 pm Condolences on the loss! I don’t know if you watch the games taped delayed or not but todays games were shocking to say the least!
July 2nd, 2006 at 7:32 am Well, I wouldn’t say shocking for the England match. They have never looked too promising to me, the only thing I found surprising about that is that Portugal needed penalties to put tham to bed! The Brazil France match was a bit of a surprise, but I am not unhappy, My team Brazil was beaten by my team, France! A nuh nutten. I now want France or Portugal to win the World Cup, though I expect that Germany will go all the way.
July 2nd, 2006 at 7:33 am By the way, Doc, time for anoddah post!
July 2nd, 2006 at 2:37 pm Couldnt you have done louvre windows with burglar bars on the inside? that’s what we have in our den and no teef ever dare try to come in, even though one did wander into the yard one night. See, this is why I live in Grenada. I can have my living room door open until the wee hours of the night and not have to worry about anything….just the mossies and other critters.
