I’ve Been a Busy Beaver…

Posted in Reviews on October 30th, 2006 by Mad Bull

So how was your weekend? Mine was quite active still. Natty and I went to a farewell get together for another person who was leaving the company I was last employed at. That was nice still, even though I barely drank anything. Nice chatting to my bredrins and sistrens still, you know.

Later in the night, I decided to go see Tony Matterhorn do his thing. Yeah, he was over here for a dance. It was ok… I know plenty people enjoyed themselves to the max, but that kind of thing isn’t really my style… too much of the DJs screeching into the mike instead of music… too much of men dancing with men…

tonymatterhorn.jpg

Yeah, there was plenty men dancing with women too, but no, the screechy, screechy thing and the pulling up of music, thats just not me. Now, next weekend, that will be more my speed! They are bringing Third World and me haffi deh deh! Still, that will be another tale!

There is more…

Unfortunate!

Posted in General on October 29th, 2006 by Dr. D

This news item almost knocked me out cold! I really wasn’t going to post nutten today, with all the stuff I have to do in preparation for Tuesday morning’s departure, but I have to give respect to Trevor B. I can only wish that he rests in peace and that they will find those responsible and bring them to justice.

Having got that out the way….I do like to travel, but the one thing I hate more than the airport hassle and constant checking is PACKING and UNPACKING. Anybody feel sorry fe me? Don’t answer btw! smily

Hol a ‘bath’ at Bath….

Posted in General on October 24th, 2006 by Dr. D

Well, I was pripsing the Gleaner on line this morning while having breakfast and stumbled across an article which makes a nice sequel to the post I wrote last nite. Seeit yah. Looks like I need to go hol a bath at Bath and perhaps learn some of the secrets about the healing powers of the water from Jah Truci and him dreadlocked bredrins.

Any of you ever been to Bath in St. Thomas? Were you ‘cured’ of any ailments? After all, they say arthritis, cancer, erectile dysfunction……Hey Mad Bull….here’s your chance to fix those wretched knees of yours! smily

Still alive….

…I suppose that is an appropriate title after the weekend of duty that I managed to survive. Trust me, I earned my on-call pay this weekend just gone. The work was reminiscent of my days of Internship! (A period of my life that I cannot say I recall with much fondness.) Anyway, tired as I was I am still here. By about 8 PM last night, it seemed that the hurricane breeze of work had passed and on my way home from the hospital, a bredrin called me, who lives nearby my workplace. He said he felt in the mood for a Sunday nightcap (or two) if I would care to join him. My stress level being pretty high at the time, I was only too happy to oblige. So, I made a quick detour to his yard, and sipped on two VX with cranberry juice. Made them pretty weak as well, as being mucho tired, I didn’t want drowsiness to hol me behind the wheel. Chat was good as usual, and it helped to destress me, and I made it home at about 11 PM and hit the sack. The slumber was blissful and I was not called again for the night.

I am making preparations (albeit slowly) for a trip to Bim next week Tuesday. I am not one who likes to do things last minute at all, but with all that is going on with work and daily living, I am just not abreast of what I have to do. Also, me tiyad….probably why I am here just passing time and blogging ad lib. Anyway, I know that I will eventually get cracking with what is left to be done.

On another note, I don’t know how many of you are aware of the impact that “Bad Belief” (what some may even call a form of obeah, or for me just plain ole ‘dark’ and fool fool) has on the practice of medicine…. I admitted a woman on Saturday night with a list of problems. I can’t get into details about the case, because of medico-legal issues. Long and short of it is that she decided to discharge herself from hospital against medical advice this evening. This is after she has had the details of her illness outlined to her, having been told that she will not be given medication to take home, we will not be held responsible for any adverse events that may befall her when she leaves, and that she will NOT BE ADMITTED back into the hospital. Well, she proceeded to sign the form. I would not be surprised if she is going to see a Bush Doctor in St. Mary or wherever, where some form of bush bath ot tea will be prescribed.

Based on her problems, she is quite likely to die soon without treatment. She was told this more than once. She still wanted to leave. And so she did. Anyhow, she mus know wah she want. Patients do have their rights. I say she fool, but others may say I am being judgemental. Serious effect that what people believe in, obeah and alternative medicine can do to those of us who try to help the public by the practice of ‘Western’ medicine. (Not sure if that sentence structure sound right, but at present the brain tiyad.) On that note, maybe I should jus done dis rass and seh tek it easy until when next…….not sure when that will be either.

Floating lanterns - Diwali Festival
Trafalgar Square, London

I am not a Hindu, nor am I even Indian, but those lanterns are pretty. I stole the picture from somebody’s photostream at Flickr. Yeah, I am shameless! Since I don’t really have any diwali business in my background, I don’t have much else to say about it. Enjoy the pretty picture, zeen?

So, Natty has gone out to have dinner and drinks with one of her sistren. I am @ home with MBJr. He is watching Monster House, its just out on DVD. Me, well, you know what I’m doing, nuh true? smily

I went to a memorial service yesterday evening. It was for an Irish guy I used to work with @ the bank I used to work for before the one I just left. He was a pretty decent chap. Anyway, he was this very active guy, he used to play squash, swim, run, play rugby and so on, he even ran in the New York Marathon last year, and then all of a sudden, he started to have some back pain. He was mis-diagnosed at first, and then he went to Florida to check things out and boops, so him take off and go to hospital, so him drop dead!

Turns out he ….

Tired……..

Posted in General on October 18th, 2006 by Dr. D

……to ra$$!!! That about sums up how I feel right now. Had a hell of a work day today…just spinning like a damn gig from me land dis mawnin. Get to the point where you doh even waan hear anybody call yuh name. Anyway, I survived. Then to top it off, I have little gas. (No, I naw refer to mi belly….there’s always ‘fuel’ there!) Perhaps, I should be a bit more specific in my choice of words and say, I am almost out of petrol. Indeed, if you hadn’t heard before (like myself) the Tanker Drivers decided to strike last evening apparently. Well, yours truly hadn’t got wind (we are talking ’bout gas) of the news ’till it was too late. So, right now, the tank of the cyar (which is the borrows from mi cousin) is hovering near ‘E’! Apparently, the driver man dem decided to return to work this evening. However, dem still a squeeze me where it hurts, cause most o de station still nuh have no gas. Every one I passed on the way home tonight had nada to offer. I on call tonight, and if I need to go….I nuh know it a go happen to rahtid! Anyhow, let me stop lamenting about crosses. We all have them from time to time. Jus haffi gwaan work dem chru…..

Weekend gone started with a Friday Lime at Acropolis. No, I didn’t go to gamble…but if you want to gimme a money to gamble I will tek it…(actually I will probably put it towards cyar purchase!) The Happy Hour is pretty good. The crew drank all of four Qs of VX during the two for one period….. (yes, when me and the bredrin dem deh pon form, we can put it away)….came up to the lovely sum of $1,000 for the lika! For entertainment they had the winners of Rising Stars (suppem dat I nuh follow) performing. Dem name ‘One Third’ nuh? Didn’t sound too bad, but they only took the stage for ’bout thirty minutes. Then they returned to the DJ who wasn’t doing a bad job. Crowd was very young…most o dem sipping Red Bull, RS Lite and Smirnoff Ice. After the three yutes performed, nuff o de yung uns disappeared.

Now somehow I am having a blank….what the eff did I do Saturday? I can’t rightly remember? Oh yeah, Dr. Spanish roped een for the weekend for a wedding, so we did likkle ketching up here at de yard…..been a while since I had a good link with him as he now lives in Florida. Just chatted shyte wid each odda ’till quite late. Basically, when we looked at the clock, decided that he would just crash here at the yard for the rest of the night. He never had any wheels, and I didn’t really feel like drive him back to his parents yard that time of night.

Sunday, ended up at the restaurant at Acropolis again…its called Ambrosia. Decided to check the Sunday Brunch as I wasn’t in a put pot pon fire culinary mood. Good food…whole heap o food to rass….couldn’t try everything. They had salad bar complete wid various cheeses, smoked marlin and cold cuts, fruits, escoveitched snapper, pepper steak, mackerel rundown and ackee and saltfish (I indulged in neither…nuh like dem), pork chops, fricasee chicken, baked ham, steamed calaloo, festival, bammy, boiled green banana. It nuh done…fruit juices, various cakes (of which I was given a sample slice from cheesecake, chocolate cake and pineapple upside down…..to carry take home as I couldn’t hol it!) Speaking of which……some nuh lef in de fridge….going get kill shortly. In summary, there is more than you can eat for the money. Trus me.

Had a likkle family lime Sunday evening and went bed about 1 AM as I was on call the Heroe’s Day.

Already I’m looking forward to Friday ’cause they got more than their fair share of the wages outta me today. Now, I need to go hol a fresh and hope that things remain quiet ’cause the energy level low. That about sums it up for now. Hope tings kriss with y’all…..

Just a quick hail…

Posted in General on October 17th, 2006 by Dr. D

Bwoy, even though we just finished a long weekend (on which I was on call the Heroe’s Day) I haven’t mustered up the energy to blog nutten. ‘Twas the furthest thing from my mind…..to be quite honest. It was a good weekend nevertheless. Anyway, I am still alive and kickin. I should give you suppem to hold on to by end of week, if not before. BTW, Gela, I can no longer post a comment on your blog as it does not recognize me as a ‘team’ member. A wah dat?? smily

Back to the grind peeps. More time.

The question…

Posted in General on October 11th, 2006 by Dr. D

OK, I suppose it is time for me to post the answer, or rather the question that I asked the patients that prompted the answers….’not anymore than anybody else’….and, ‘not really.’ Well, most of you who thought it had suppem to do with sex were correct. I think of all the respondents, Pauline came closest to winning the virtual million. Now, I doh know if any of you ever notice that posts of sexual nature usually get nuff comments?? Like the one Mad bull did recently ’bout toe sucking! I guess that says suppem about us being sexual beings…nuh true? Well, nutten wrong wid dat in my opinion. I guess time will tell if this post gets a lot of comments. If not…then a jus so.

Anyway, let me stop beating ’round the bush, keeping you in a state of readiness, arousal and ting, and being what us rude bwoyz used to refer to girls who would give man certain kinda sexual vibez and ting, and when the time come to deliver she chicken out…..a cocktease! (Not insinuating that I man woulda be teasing any man cock but mi own!) The question that was asked was, “Are you sexually active?” Now, patient number one was a lady in her thirties who replied, “Not really!” My response to that was, “Well what do you mean by not really, you either are or you aren’t.” It is kinda like saying that you not really pregnant!? smily

Hear what my girl goes on to say. “Well doctor, I don’t think I am sexually active as I don’t go on top!” (Me nearly dead wid laugh but had to maintian a certain degree of professional bedside manner!) I guess that by not going on top that makes her sexually passive eeh?

Now, the second patient was a thirteen year old yute inna him kakhi school uniform who was referred to the clinic with ‘bumps on his privates’. When taking his history, I asked the same question. His reply, “Not anymore than anybody else!” As if to seh, ‘A wah wrong wid you doah…of course me having sex!’ Now, probing a bit further, eventually this yute indicated to me that he had three current partners, and in most cases, condoms did not come into play. I kinda had to turn Big Brother/Daddy to him and give him some advice to help protect him from the kinda worries that he may face if he continues to walk in dem woods without ’shoes’. Prickle soon stick him, and not inna him foot…some place else. Also had to tell him that him too young to be tekking on sex and with them amount of partners. After all, he already had genital warts at his tender age. (I nuh know about y’all, but at thirteen sex was suppem that was more of a fantasy than anything else to me! smily )

Anyhow, I saw him once more after a treatment protocol was laid out for him and he was then wart free.

So, I suppose I will send Pauline the virtual million…..if you don’t see it your bank account, blame the ‘on line system!’ smily

Now, I won’t bodda to ask any of you the same question. However, if you wish to answer the question….feel free. It just might add some good old Caribbean spices to the comment box. Anyway, the clock here on the compi is telling me to hurry up and finish breakfast….the boyz room a shout me….More time.

Saturday…

Posted in General on October 7th, 2006 by Dr. D

Yeah, it is Saturday, in case you didn’t know. And a nice evening/night so far. Heavy rain fell this afternoon, hence the place is cool and the night blessed with some nice breezes. Simple as it may sound, is things like this we need to give thanks to the Almighty for…..if not, we can allow the complexities of modern day living to overcome our lives. Anyhow, that is just a little opening remark….. probably me allowing my deep thinking side to stray…but why not?

So far, today I was up at my ward to see the six patients on my service. Everybody was pretty copasetic. After that I passed by the garage where my cyar is presently parked. Its the first I’ve seen it in over a week. It almost looked strange to me as I have sorta put it outta my mind. I’m one of these people who believes that if suppem a gie you too much stress, let go of it. (That applies to human beings as well!) Well, mentally that is what I have done with the car. News is that they are unable to locate an engine or the parts to fix it, so I am to be given a quotation as to how much it will cost to import an engine…..to ra$$ Whatever……Anyway, it is the papers for the vehicle that I went to collect. I really wouldn’t need for those to get lost while she is laid up in the garage.

I paid the deposit on my new wheels on Thursday and am to get the paperwork done for the loan on Monday. I suspect I should get the funds before the cyar reach Jamdown from Japan still, even though its on its way already. In that case, depending on the date that I should be able to grasp the steering, I’ll probably put the funds on a short term fixed deposit, eg 14 or 30 days so it can grow likkle interest while I wait on her arrival. BTW, she’s navy blue with leather seats. Rims on her look nice as well. All, I will need to do is get her tinted and depending on how the set sounds, I may decide to have that upgraded. Am looking forward to taking her on her first spin ’round town.

Having done the rounds on the road including a short spin through the supermarket (didn’t need much but that made little difference with the bill smily ) I headed home and had a cuppa soup and a hot dog for lunch. Got about a half hour sleep in at about 4:30 and that’s about the size of it thus far. Tonite a group of us linking up at a bredrin to watch some boxing. Lightweight championship fight tonite on Showtime at 9. Boxing is one of my favourite sports to tek een on TV. Can’t for the life of me memba de name o de two fighter dem. But, this will be their third encounter and I have seen the two previous meets and they were worth watching. So, some pizzas will be bought, some lika imbibed and some bad wud a go cuss…sorry ladies.

Oh, almost forgot. Here are the responses that I recently got from separate patients to the same question. “Not anymore than anybody else.” And, “Not really.” Now, for a bit of fun, what I want you all to guess, is what was the question that they were responding to. The person who guesses the question correctly, will win a million (virtual) dollars! Of course, if you fool enuff to believe that you going see any money inna you bank account then you might as well reply to them e-mail messages that proclaim that the sender is the heir to many millions in whichever country. And that you can share in the funds by divulging your bank account info. Anyway, play along nevertheless, what was the question?

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. I man a look forward to the boxing lime.
