Deeply buried heads!
Bwoy, I find miself wid likkle bit o time…and though I shudda be here typing a document (which can wait a bit) I have decided to yow y’all up. Well, man been enjoying his new ride…no complaints from my corner at all.
Had a patient las week…she be all of twelve. We thought of placing her on a drug which in order to for us to do so, we have to ensure that the patient nuh pregnant. Well, likkle thing came with her Mother (after all, she is a pickney still…)…so we explaining/discussing the situation to she and Mother. Well, Mother is there laughing cause she says that there is no way her little cherub could be pregnant as she still a virgin (of course, that is as far as she know….) and all she do is bury she head deep inna school book! When I was examining the girl, I asked her quietly if she having sex, and she replied in the affirmative….and she doh know if the yute using boots!
Anyhow, long and short of it, after nuff convincing and coercing, Mother allowed us to let her have a urine pregnancy test. Well, no surprizes, it was positive. Course, mother doh believe the result, seh is mistake……she waan another doctor’s opinion.
Called the folks in Obs and Gynae who agreed to see her following morning. I wrote the referral letter and she was seen following day. Well, the Doc called me to say they did an Ultrasound, and little miss had about a 14 week gestation….so a reasonably large loaf a bread baking inna de oven. So, now I guess Mother realize that Missy head not too deeply buried in school book…..in fact, if anything, is de yute ‘head’ that buried deep inside of she. Well, I doh know what they decided to do, but I have my suspicions…….
Apart from that little tale, I doh have much more to share. My head (the bigger one 
) been deeply buried in work and other stuff as well, hence my infrequency! Anyway, whatever you do with your head, keep it safe, keep it standing high, and enjoy it as well. Tek dat any way you want!

February 2nd, 2007 at 7:55 am Long time no see Doc, how you so scare pon the messenger? Sad, sad, sad story iya! At age 12, I never know anything about sex, let alone pregnant (alright, I did, but I also knew what a condom was too!). Anyhow, link me this weekend if you get a chance nuh.

February 4th, 2007 at 2:17 am Doc: Any twelve y.o. showing up pregnant is a victim of sexual abuse. She cannot legally give consent. I’m very suspicious of the happenings in that household. Poor child. I understand that current law in Jamaica obligates every professional, teachers,, doctors, et al, to report such a case to the authorities. Is this true? This case brings to mind the Oprah Winfrey story and the sexual abuse she endured at an early age at the hands of relatives, including an underage pregnancy. I wish this little girl the best and hope her mother will pay better attention and protect her child.
February 4th, 2007 at 8:21 am Pauline, your concern re the sexual abuse is very relevant. However, time and time again when these young girls show up pregnant, when the issue of reporting it to the authorities is mentioned, many of the mothers (i.e the mothers of the pregnant child) do not want it done. Reasons: “Dem doh waan get the man in chubble cause is a good man…..or If dem lock him up and de Baby Fada inna jail, how him a go support de baby!?” It is a sad state….
February 4th, 2007 at 12:10 pm Dr. D: Forgive me, but some of these parents are too darn licky licky. Some allow grown grey-back men to financially support their underage daughters then pretend they don’t know what’s going on.
February 4th, 2007 at 3:38 pm Bwoy, I don’t even know what to say about this one! Is like, the first time I had sex, the girl in question was thirteen. At the time I was fifteen so even though I was cradle robbing, I was pretty much in the cradle myself, and so I feel no remorse now about getting it on with her then. It is unfortunate that my girl “touch street” already, but I guess that the bigger question in my mind is who di dawta did touch street with. Your post mentions a boyfriend. Well, if its a little yute do di damage, well, I not knocking it too much. Basically, every teen ager is programmed to try to get it on! Thats all thats in their head, so how do we expect them to refrain! The parents need to be sharper, and thats about it. If is a big man do di damage now, well, thats rape, straight! Lock his rass up! Awoah!

Just wondered: Doesn’t the Child Development Agency and the recent Child’s Advocate’s department demands that all underage cases of pregnancy be reported, irrespective of what the parents think? Many cases, the children are definitely having consenual sex, but in many, it is incest. Not sure where the medical profession stands on these new guidelines. One young mother of 14, was brought to the attention of the police recently. The mother was charged for neglect even though she told the court she made arrangements for birth control. If a child want to have sex, I think that is the best thing the mother could do. What a sinting inna JAH land.

But question would be was it sexual abuse, if de yute heself bout 13/14 or de gal was getting interfer by an adult…dem questions dat need tuh be answered. But yes - he has definitely caught on to the cuss words. I’ve always read the Caribbean blogs, for a few years now too. Just never commented. It was actually the post by Kingston Girl that she is in Israel which prompted me to drop a line!
