A Little Math trick
Ok, I am not sure if all of you will find this interesting or not, but here goes…
1. Grab a calculator. (You won’t be able to do this one in your head)
2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code!)
3. Multiply by 80
4. Add 1
5. Multiply by 250
6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
8. Subtract 250
9. Divide number by 2.
Do you recognize the answer?
March 1st, 2007 at 9:40 am That’s a neat trick! These types of formulas and math tricks always get me thinking about their origin. The thing that I always wonder about is the how and why of the formula’s development. What made someone come up with this formula? What motivated them to come up with it? What twisted mind (mathematical genius) did the work in the beginning?

March 2nd, 2007 at 3:14 pm Neat trick…..i am so bored at work today!
March 2nd, 2007 at 4:09 pm hmm.. maybe I know too much math for my own good. if my phone number was 111-2222 (nnn-mmmm) steps 2,3 and 5 would produce nnn x 80 x 250 = 20,000 x nnn = 2220,000 or (111,0000)x2 steps 6,7 would produce mmmm + mmmm = 2 x mmmm = 4444 or (2222)x2 steps 8,5 only serve to convolute the whole process and cancel each other out. step 9 removes the x2 to give you back your original phone number. we wah justice (and a refund)
