Alive and kicking…..

Posted in General on April 27th, 2007 by Dr. D

Well, April is almost over and I have posted all of twice for the month. That’s just the way it is so, no apology. What has been happening? Plenty work, and a fair amount of play.

Now….. Wednesday of this week was the 25th of the month, which for those of us who receive salary on a monthly basis, was the day that our accounts were to have received some resuscitation. One of my colleagues came to work the morning and asked me if I knew if we had got the funds. I was unable to answer as I had not checked. In any case, my main account is at NCB, and they tend to credit the funds at the very last minute on payday, despite their receiving them a few days before. I’m no financial wizard, but I check seh dem ‘rinse’ the funds on a short term basis and earn some interest before dem let it off! If me wrong, well then I will ask the Big Guy to forgive me for accusing them wrongly.

My colleague’s account is with Scotia, and she said she saw nothing reflecting a lodgement in her account. We went about our merry bizniz and started the usual work. Somwehere around 10:45 AM an announcement is made by one of the telephone operators over the PA system……”Monthly paid staff will not be paid salaries today due to an administrative problem……We apologize for any inconvenience caused!” Those may not have been the exact words……..but that was what the message conveyed. Now, I had issues with the way in which it was handled. Don’t tell me that the people in charge of Finance did not know until the 25th that the shit was a go lick…….and furthermore, they should have communicated the problem to us, before payday via a memo, not an announcement on the PA system IMHO. You may not agree with me, but that’s life.

Well, as a consequence of that, when I reached work yesterday, the 26th, I was told that the pharmacy was closed as many of the Pharmacists did not show for work. Question the correctness of their action, fine, but perhaps if the matter had been handled in a better way, maybe that could have been prevented. The way I look at it, its the way in which things are communicated that make the difference. Treat people like adults in a manner which shows that you care. Anyhow, the funds somehow reached the bank yesterday, but I hope this does not become a regular occurrence……if so, then I may need to start exploring other options for income earning. And I doubt that I would be able to make a living by selling mi body! (See me haffi a tek bad tings mek joke.)

Well, now that I let that off pon y’all, weekend round de corner and I looking forward to greeting it, spirit and all. I going Portland tomorrow, haven’t been for a while, so looking forward to it. Sunday I have a piece o fresh pork that I goin pot roast for dinner….haven’t done any cooking of consequence for a while….time short. Have a good weekend. ‘Till next time….which I am quite sure will not be sometime inna May.

A quick shout….

How everybody been doing? I am fine despite my absence. I have been doing much more reading than writing, and I must say I am liking it that way. No pressha to post nutten!

I have been intrigued in the last few days by the song of a bird that starts about 5:30 in the mornings, it is soo beautiful…..also sometimes hear it in the evenings if I am home early enough. Have no idea what the bird looks like or its name but it is lovely.

I see Lara resigning…..do I hear some applause? Well, he never was one to get a great rating from me, but then again, neither does cricket do so with me as a sport…… If I not mistaken, a semi final match playing at Sabina on Tuesday…I wonder if there is going to be any hype surrounding it?

Bucked up into a female Doc this week while having lunch. Now girl graduated a year before me, and has been working in jolly ole Henglan for a few years. I did not recognize her. This is a black young woman and the first thing I noticed about her (this is before I found out who she was) was the head of false ‘tall’ hair, the very long false eyelashes, the plastic talons she was sporting as fingernails, and the heavy base of makeup that she had on her face… it looked like a mask. Ugh! I was with a sistren/colleague (Diana) eating and she blurted out in the most deep British accent…..’Hi Diana!’ She went on to tell Diana that she was in Jamaica for a few days as ‘Dad’ wasn’t doing so well, and was in the hospital. So she came to give ‘Mum’ some support…….Eventually, Diana told her that she hoped ‘Dad’ would improve and she continued on her merry way.

After she left Diana asked me if I didn’t know who she was, to which I replied no. She then reminded me who she was and I was in shock. In fact, my reaction was more like, “Rass! A she dat?” I then said, but her nose……that is not the nose I knew her to have, this one is so small and striaght. Diana replied, ‘That’s right! I heard she had a job done on same.’

Bwoy, I doh know….but some of our people just seem to lose it when dem go tek up residence inna farin! As a man, gimme natural feminine beauty any day over weaved hair, plastic nails, loads of make up, augmented udders that look like dem a go buss, etc.

Today is Friday (as if you didn’t know) and I am off call all weekend. Dr. Spanish is also passing thru from Florida, so I going link him tonite and show him around (not that he is any stranger to what a gwaan in Kingston entertainmentwise)…but it has been a while since we had a good bredrin flex. So, with that note, TGIF, have a good weekend and stay safe while doing what you do to enjoy yourself.

Whatchu Lookin' At?

Previous Picture     Next Picture

You can actually see a lot in a person’s eyes, can’t you? Blue skies, nice fluffy clouds, brown earth… someone standing in front of the person, holding something…. in this case, a camera!

Click on the picture above to see a bigger picture showing more.

So anyway… what you all been up to? I went to some people’s house to chill last night. Came home a beaten man. Them bus’ up we shirt at dominos, bwoy!

I’ve been reading too… I just finished that novel I bought in the airport when I was flying out to Miami the other day. It was a good novel, I only took so long because nowadays I come home and read blogs daily instead of picking back up the novel I am “reading” at the time. This novel was perhaps only the second one I have actually finished at all in the last six months! It is also a novel I have read already, can you imagine? That tells you it was good, no? It was The Burning Shore , by Wilbur Smith. After reading it, I went out and bought the novel that follows it by the same author, it is like a continuation of the same story. That one is “The Power of the Sword“. I am reading that now. Hopefully I don’t get too far in it today though. I have some stuff I want to do today, like go to the beach and swim , and watch or play some volleyball, and go to the gym….

Yesterday, the reading made me not do anything I had planned to, so today the reading has to take a back seat. At least, thats the plan.

Some time ago, I asked the question on the Mad Bull’s Blog whether blogs could effect change… Now on CNN, they are wondering if it was the power of blogs that did that racist Imus in… go read it.

The Story of Tugs & Things NOT To Try At Home!

Posted in Funny on April 13th, 2007 by Mad Bull

Ok, Y’all! Its Friday night! You should all be out drinking and looking to get laid! Unless you reach the stage where oonoo cyah do dem tings anymore, for whatever reason! If so, don’t bother to sit down and pity yourself! After all, there is still shit for you to do, for instance you could read my blogs, right? )

I have a couple of laughs for you.

The Story of Tugs

This is the story of a former work acquaintance. For the sake of discussion, let’s call her Tugs. Mrs. Crash reminded me of the story of Tugs after a posting by my friend Kimba.

Tugs was a contract worker who I met about 8 years ago. She would fly in on Monday to work with us, then fly out on Thursday to go back to her home for the weekend. Tugs was young, single, and not unattractive … a bit of a flirt as well.

One summer weekend, Tugs decided that she was in need of a bikini wax. But this time, she’d apparently decided that she could save some money by doing the job herself. She’d bought the kit over the weekend, and for some unknown reason had come to the conclusion that the perfect time to wax herself was Monday morning before she flew out of her home airport. The story continues yahso!

It wicked, wicked Wicked. Oonoo fi read it, you know! Awoah!

Here comes another one, good like the first one!

Things NOT To Try At Home!

During a long car trip with a boyfriend we became overwhelmed with the need to.. stop.
I think it had something to do with the fact I was going down on him while he was driving.. Apparently that is distracting..

He pulled the car over to the side of the highway.. and we moved it to the backseat. What he really wanted to do was give me a nice quick session of oral (he was very efficient and very very good..) People, the story continues over dehso!

LOL! My gosh! She say him good, but I say he is a “prento” (an apprentice). D

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed those… the link to the Story of Tugs was via the Love Quote and the link to “Things NOT To Try At Home!” comes via “Memoirs of a Dater“. Enjoy, seen?!

Gimi Di Beyonce Wine!

You know, I fucking hate Jay Z!

Ok, no! I am just kidding! I mean, Beyonce is HOT! Mos Def! She got some nice teeth too! But no, I don’t hate Jay Z. I just think he is not worthy of her, know what I mean? He is one lucky mofo!

Click on Beyonce to view the rest of her photoshoot in Sports Illustrated. Hey, I came across this guy who was complaining because AskMen magazine recently revealed their “Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2007,” and Beyonce Knowles garnered the most votes. He feels that many of the women who were among the top 99 rejections would place above her. I noticed that he posted the pictures of four other women, I guess he was suggesting that they were some of the ladies who were more desirable than her. I took a look at them and I just thought to myself, “Cho…”

I agree with the guy partially, in that I am sure there are women out there who are more desirable than Beyonce, (thats a fact, witness Halle Berry for one) even if they only beat her out by a smidgen! Still, if you’re going to diss her, at least suggest someone who really outshines her! The four women the bredrin has put up definitely are not more desirable than her. Of course, thats just my opinion, but around here, that is given a heavy weighting in importance! )

Did you notice that the women the guy picked are all white too? No other blacks… no asian women… no latinas… hmmm. I think I see whats going on.

Enjoy the pictures in Beyonce’s photo shoot, if like me you didn’t buy the magazine…

Misc pics 242.jpg

Ok, I have noticed that for some bloggers, it has become fashionable to have a ‘photoblog’, not that I have really been checking those who claim to have them. And, that is not why I am posting this shot I took two Fridays ago. It is just that I thought it was a nice shot, it conjures up a feeling of serenity in me, similar to the relaxing feeling I get when I plant myself in front of my fish tank……..I like how I caught the black silhouette of the leaves of the breadfruit and mango tree in the foreground and set it against the pinkish hues of the sunset that nature created.

Anyway, hope you have been enjoying the Easter weekend, so far mine has been relaxing and eventful as well. (Bwoy, is so long I nuh post a picha that I almost forgot how! ) I gone……

A Laugh and a Song

The World’s Best Blonde Joke

A blind man walked into a bar one night. One of the patrons at the bar saw him and helped him to a barstool and got him a drink. After a few minutes, the blind man leaned over to his new friend and said, “I just heard the world’s best blonde joke. Would you like to hear it?”

The other man said, “Friend, before you say another word, there’s something you need to know.”

“What’s that?” the blind man asked.

“There are five people besides you in this bar. The bartender is blonde. The bouncer is blonde. There are two women sitting at the end of the bar. One is an off-duty police officer, and the other is a Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, and they’re both blond. I’m six-foot-four, two hundred and sixty pounds, and I’ve got a third degree black belt in karate, and I’m blonde.

“So,” the man concluded, “Are you sure you really want to tell that joke in here?”

The blind man thought about it for a minute and said, “No, not if I’m going to have to explain it five times.”.
