Alive and kicking…..
Well, April is almost over and I have posted all of twice for the month. That’s just the way it is so, no apology. What has been happening? Plenty work, and a fair amount of play.
Now….. Wednesday of this week was the 25th of the month, which for those of us who receive salary on a monthly basis, was the day that our accounts were to have received some resuscitation. One of my colleagues came to work the morning and asked me if I knew if we had got the funds. I was unable to answer as I had not checked. In any case, my main account is at NCB, and they tend to credit the funds at the very last minute on payday, despite their receiving them a few days before. I’m no financial wizard, but I check seh dem ‘rinse’ the funds on a short term basis and earn some interest before dem let it off! If me wrong, well then I will ask the Big Guy to forgive me for accusing them wrongly.
My colleague’s account is with Scotia, and she said she saw nothing reflecting a lodgement in her account. We went about our merry bizniz and started the usual work. Somwehere around 10:45 AM an announcement is made by one of the telephone operators over the PA system……”Monthly paid staff will not be paid salaries today due to an administrative problem……We apologize for any inconvenience caused!” Those may not have been the exact words……..but that was what the message conveyed. Now, I had issues with the way in which it was handled. Don’t tell me that the people in charge of Finance did not know until the 25th that the shit was a go lick…….and furthermore, they should have communicated the problem to us, before payday via a memo, not an announcement on the PA system IMHO. You may not agree with me, but that’s life.
Well, as a consequence of that, when I reached work yesterday, the 26th, I was told that the pharmacy was closed as many of the Pharmacists did not show for work. Question the correctness of their action, fine, but perhaps if the matter had been handled in a better way, maybe that could have been prevented. The way I look at it, its the way in which things are communicated that make the difference. Treat people like adults in a manner which shows that you care. Anyhow, the funds somehow reached the bank yesterday, but I hope this does not become a regular occurrence……if so, then I may need to start exploring other options for income earning. And I doubt that I would be able to make a living by selling mi body! (See me haffi a tek bad tings mek joke.)
Well, now that I let that off pon y’all, weekend round de corner and I looking forward to greeting it, spirit and all. I going Portland tomorrow, haven’t been for a while, so looking forward to it. Sunday I have a piece o fresh pork that I goin pot roast for dinner….haven’t done any cooking of consequence for a while….time short. Have a good weekend. ‘Till next time….which I am quite sure will not be sometime inna May.

April 29th, 2007 at 10:13 pm Bakanal, I heard a true story that went supn like that…. The ending was not so tame though.
April 30th, 2007 at 12:58 pm memo or email would have been the way to go. Hope the poak was nice - I am sure it was.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:49 pm they could have been a little more subtle in their approach. didnt have to tell the whole hospital so.
May 2nd, 2007 at 7:31 pm So here’s my unsolicited opinion. They should have sent an email/memo before the 25th. But I don’t think the pharmacists dealt with the situation right either. Doc, I not sure that you wouldn’t have nuff, nuff takers if yu decide to go that route yu nuh
May 3rd, 2007 at 12:13 pm I figure the pharmacists just couldn’t take it anymore. Dealing with government and them lack of care is a serious issue especially where salary is concerned. I wonder if they realise how many people living payday to payday and one day is life and death.
May 3rd, 2007 at 3:45 pm Well, I wont do like Doc used to do last year and gently “invite” me to do another post. Tell you what, the hell with it - C’mon Doc, what the hell is going on, lets have another post. What’s a dude supposed to read, for Crissake?
May 5th, 2007 at 8:54 am doc u there?
