The Buzz!
So, what do you think the buzz is all about in Jamaica today? The upcoming election? Nope! Power cuts? Nope! The crime rate? Land tax? Problems in the Tourism Sector? Nope, nope nope! No sir, today, the buzz is all about the IAAF Coca-Cola World Junior Championships! It is being hosted in Jamaica, and got off to a good start about two days ago.
I read in the Gleaner that Simone Facey won a silver medal for herself in the Women's 100 Metres Final last night. An American, Lauryn Williams, won with a time of 11.33, while Jamaica's Facey clocked 11.43. All I have to say is "Gwaan train, my girl, and dus' her out next time!".
(Keep training hard, and try to best Ms. Williams next time you meet her)
I also noticed that two Trinis (Trinidadians) took first (Darryl Brown) and second (Marc Burns) in the Men's 100 metres final. Big Up! (Congrats to them!) I like it when people from anywhere in the West Indies excel in sports or otherwise. It augurs well for the West Indies' hopes of good performances in the future.
I will keep you up to date with info when any other Jamaicans medal, or for world record breaking performances, but Track and Field is not really my thing. I've never been to the High School Championships in Track and Field here in Jamaica, for instance, whereas the majority of other Jamaicans will go AWOL from work, school, or even illicit liaisons with members of the opposite sex in order to attend. I know some of the Jamaicans reading this will be shocked. "Never?!?" No, Never! And I am not planning on going anytime soon.
But this weekend, maybe, just maybe, I will go down to the Stadium for an hour or two and watch a couple of events. Who knows? Maybe I'll be able to build up some level of enthusiasm. We shall see...

Yes yute. It's all over the papers. Never mind about NEVER having been to School Boys Champs before. I have been maybe about twice, LOOONG ago. It seems to me that these Junior Champs have been grossly undersubscribed. I was watching some highlights on TV last night and man, de Staduim EMPTY Rasta! I heard that they will be admitting children in uniform to the bleachers from today FOC. (Maybe if I skull work, shave the goatee and my moustache, and find an old George's uniform to don, I could present myself as perhaps, a High Schooler?
) I doubt it. WORK becons. Will look out for more highlights myself.
