A Bad Mind Dem Bad Mind!
When people have made a good contribution to a country, oftentimes they are recognised for their works by having something named after them, be it a hospital, or an airport, or a road, or whatever. It is meant to honour the person for the contributions they have made.
Poor Edward Seaga (a past Prime Minister of Jamaica and until recently, the leader of the Opposition). He has made many contributions to Jamaica, many! He is responsible for all manner of things having been put in place, things we enjoy today. Many feel that Eddie was the man who turned around our economy in the eighties! If he hadn't done so, Imagine where Jamaica would be now! We owe the man, big time!
Of course, Eddie is human. The man therefore is not perfect, but IMHO its only bad minded people (and members of the PNP party brainwashed faithful) who would suggest that the man's overall contributions to Jamaica were not positive, and indeed, large ones at that!
Unfortunately for Eddie, he is not well liked, so when people seek to honour him, many others rise up to argue and complain. After all his contributions, look at what the man has come to: having to say 'no thanks' to the honour of having an important bit of roadway in Kingston named after him, because some people are bad minded and ungrateful.
I don't know about you, but I feel he deserved it. He deserved it more than many who preceeded him, and than many who will follow him.
Respect yah, Eddie! Big up! You did good!
There is more...
The hopes of the Caribbean have been placed on the shoulders of the Trinis, but unfortunately, they have suffered a setback. They drew with Bahrain 1-1 yesterday in Port of Spain. Now they have to win or draw with Bahrain at least 2-2 to advance! These are not impossible outcomes, but at the same time, it would have been nicer if we had won our home game... Notice the'we' and 'our' in the previous statement.
We have to learn that we are the only people who really care about us, and therefore we have to band together and celebrate the victories of all of us! At the same time, we have to work to support each other in the bad times that eventually strike each one of us. Thats what I think! What about the rest of you?

Not so long ago, I wrote a post about some of the things I miss from Yard. Today, while surfing the Internet version of the Sunday Observer, I came across the picture above. (Yes, I stole it from the Observer. It is captioned 'STILL IN CONTROL: A King Is Born (right), under Winston Griffiths, runs away from Si Mi Trial to win the red Stripe Caribbean Sprint Championship on yesterday's Superday programme at Caymanas Park.')
Did you know that when I was about 23 and I used to dabble in betting on horseracing, I used to buy anything that Winston Griffiths was riding! The man was my favourite jockey, and look, him still deh bout! Big up, rasta!)
Now, they say racing is the sport of Kings, and the overall leader of the Cayman Islands is the Queen of England, and horseracing is a big thing in England, but they don't do that shyte here in Cayman. I, for one, am sorry. I was not a bigtime fan of horseracing, ie. I didn't really bet on the horses much, but I liked watching the races now and again, you know. The horses were awesome, man, look at the picture! Look at the muscles, and the spirit of the animals shining forth from the photo! Horses are pretty animals, you know!
I actually used to go to Caymanas Park now and again with two of my bredrins (Pablo and Wayne) who were much more into that sort of thing. I would enjoy liming with my bredrins in the North Lounge, watching the horses run, checking out the good looking ladies who passed through there from time to time, and of course, the fabulous food served by the concessionaires in the North Lounge at Caymanas Park. I miss those Wednesdays. I wonder what Wayne and Pablo are up to now, and if they won any money on this Superday. I must drop them an email. Anyway, thats it. I-an-I gone until tomorrow.
Peace, mi bredrins.

Some people can't think for themselves they just follow the party line like mindless automatons.

I'm agreement that Eddie deserved the road being named after him...but there are many who dislike his behaviour...especially how he managed the opposition in the last years before he finally stepped down....
What likkle experience I have with horses I got from becoming a bredrin of Doc. Spanish. I've never been to the track....

I have a great uncle who used to be a jockey. He always owned horses too, and rode them everyday in the pasture. I think that kept him alive way into his 80's.

Shame about Seaga. I bet all kinds of people will have all sorts of wonderful things to say about him once he's kicked.
