Clear as Mud

It seems like a number of people decided not to click on the all important link in my post, "Shes Gone From My Life". Just to clear things up, I didn't sell the Accord, and I didn't buy a bike. There was a link in the post which pointed out that the whole thing was a joke... Let me post that link again, it went like this :

Ok, be sure to click here for a final word... and if you block pop ups, unblock them for this one...

I hope that clears things up!

Last night, MBJr. asked me to read him a bedtime story and the first book my hands fell upon was a Children's Bible... I looked through the index and settled on the story of the destruction of Sodom & Gomorroh, for some reason. (No, it had nothing to do with Gay cruiseships, or anything about gayness). As it turned out, I started reading from a section just before the Sodom & Gomorroh story, at a story about this guy Abram and his wife Sarai. Apparently Sarai couldn't concieve so she gave her Egyptian handmaiden to Abram for him to lie with, as she wanted to build a family through this woman.

Now I not too sure about the conception part of it, but this giving of women to lie with business sounds most civilized to me, and I wish more wives would follow that practice today. What do my peeps have to say about that? Anyway, there is more if you like...

Anyway, when the handmaiden did concieve, she started to pass her place with Sarai, and was even dissing her, so Sarai asked mistreated her and told her to flash the scene or else!

Anyway, as I was going through all this, Natty quickly determined that the story as told in this kiddie Bible was not really a kiddie's tale at all, especially if you want them to go to sleep. She mandated that I wheeled and come again, so I did. Next I turned to the section where Jesus was making his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, in the Book of Matthew... almost as soon as I started reading from there though, MBJr. got a bit bored with listening to the story so he began to roll around in the bed and to chat to his mom. Soon, the discussion of why he would be on holidays after Tuesday came up and he asked, "What is Ash Wednesday? Whats the meaning of it?", and I realised that I could not answer him properly. Can you imagine? Me, who Sixty Five and Mamacita did their best to raise as a good Roman Catholic! Me, who even used to serve as an altarboy, and yet I couldn't remember what the meaning of Ash Wednesday was!

I decided then and there that I would google it, and so I did just that this morning. According to this website, Ash Wednesday is the start of the Lenten season. (Lent is also discussed on that webpage I just linked to...) It is a day when "Christians focus intensely on their utter and complete sinfulness and the necessity of Christ's suffering and death to earn their salvation.". The ashes are worn as a sign of our sorrowfulness.

You know, I'm certain that I have heard all of this before... I guess I just haven't been going to church for too long a time, huh? smily

Oh well... Maybe I will start going again soon, who knows...

Sounds to me that the Sarai and handmaiden story is almost akin to surrogacy....from in dem days. But I agree with Natty....doesn't sound like bedtime tales for a pickney at all.

I am SURE that you did remember that Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. I didn't recall the details of the Ash part however....

The bit about Ash Wednesday being the start of Lent is eary to remember - because carnival is supposed to be before then so you can get all of your badness out of the way before you start lent!

Yo, u dun know seh I was one of the slackers who didn't finish reading the full story with u and the bike. Actually, I was giving you stripes for getting the bike (or thinking that you hit a mid life crisis; now the stripes are lost and gone forever! You really were planning to read about handmaidens to MBjr?

It was the kiddie version...

It begs the question how they handle the hole Sodom & Gomorroh escapade...

I thought the bike thing might be a hoax because of the chats we've had about bikes... And the distinct shortage of Aprilla's on island... Should've cliked the link...

I stopped going to church on Ash Wed. 'cause the amount of ashes I needed to remind me how sinful I was, had me looking like a coal miner...

I totally agree, but women today are awfully jealous.

I would not be giving any woman to my husband. Sorry. It's good for every Christian to study the bible. There is so much to learn from it. As for lent, I'm thinking about what I could give up for the period of sacrifice ... I'm still thinking.

Yea - Ash Wed is the start of Lent... knew that - just wasn't 100% sure what Lent really is. Now that you've reminded me, I know now it has never had much meaning for me. ;)
