Psychic Hotline.

Its hot! I'm tired nuh ra$$! I've got to get up to go to work at 8:00AM tomorrow! ("So what?!?" You say? Its an effing public holiday here tomorrow. Thats the second one I'm missing because of this bloody project I'm on! Grrrrr! Sometimes I feel very bitchy, like tonight!

Then you'll hear some asshole with no problems bitching about their lives, without reason, in my opinion! It makes me feel like THIS! Often I find that KD feels the same way I do, at the same time I'm feeling that way... We must have a psychic thing going on.

Adventures with Knives, Part II

Nice DaggerKnives are dangerous indeed! My previous post should have highlighted that fact. You're probably saying to yourself that teen agers have no business walking around with knives anyway. I won't lie though, there have been a time or two when it may well have been a good thing that I had a knife on me... at least right at that particular time.

The one that springs immediately to mind involves a sweet sixteen party that I went to... Lets see, I was about seventeen or eighteen at the time. The party was in Waterworks, and it was a good one, nice looking girls, good food, liquor, pretty IRIE... until I started talking to this girl called Melanie... She went to Priory High School, the school all the rich (and way out) kids went to. I knew her AND her boyfriend fairly well, which is why what happened next seems all the more strange to me.

While talking to them, I noticed another guy who went to Priory sitting nearby. He was staring at me, non-fricking-stop! It began to get annoying, so I asked him what was up, why he was staring at me? He got up and began to cuss me out, then he pushed his hand towards me, pointing and gesticulating, then he did it! He put two of his fingers on my chin and shoved my head backwards! This is a grievious insult in Jamaica... GRIEVIOUS! I was shocked! I had done nothing to this fool, and look what he was going on with! I immediately retaliated. I used my whole palm and covered his entire face and shoved right back. We call this "masking" his face here. As soon as I did that, I saw about seven guys stand up and encircle me! Of course, you done know (can be sure) that there is more...

Woiyoi! Another Monday to RA$$...

I am a messy guy. I don't think it can be called anything else. Natty suffers, because she says she has two kids, not one. Of course, you done know she's exaggerating. This messiness also manifests itself at the office. I only clean up my desk when its so messy that I can't concentrate. I am always losing things because its lost in the clutter that is my desk. Theres a good side to this... Its easier to clean up when you do get the vibe. Heres how I see it. Anything thats been on my desk like that, I figure I should be able to do without, because it would have been on my desk (and therefore out of sight) for so long already, and as long as I don't recall missing anything important, obviously I can do without it... Into the garbage it goes.

Don't leave yet, theres more...

So, is there an afterlife or not?

So, do you believe in life after death or not? Some time ago, the father of a friend of Natty and I died after a long, harrowing illness. When her father became ill, she moved back home to help her mother to take care of him (you ever notice how its always the daughters who get stuck with that job? All men who have only sons, you done know that when you get sick, you will have to have nurses to take care for you, right?). Anyway, she was there to watch her father deteriorate. He had been a hale and hearty man, and she watched him as he lost a tremendous amount of weight. She was badly affected by the whole experience.

Sometime after her father died, her mother sold the house where she and her husband had lived. At the time when the house was sold, the phone number at the house, 925-8175, was disconnected.

About a month ago, Natty left her cell phone at home and went out. While she was out, she received a call, so when she checked through the call log, guess which phone number she saw? Yup! 925-8175. She tried calling it a number of times but only received a recording saying that the number was out of service. She didn't know what to make of it, but eventually she forgot about it... until today! Yessir, today, she left the phone at home again, and when she was checking the missed calls, out jumps that number again - 925-8175! Again, she tried to call the number, with a similar result - this time, it was that fast busy signal that indicates that the number you've called is not a valid number.

She went to visit with our friend this evening, and she says that she never mentioned it to our friend, but the friend told her that she "had asked her father to give her some sign that he's alright, wherever he was." Natty immediately said to her "See your sign here!" and showed her the phone, and explained the sequence of events that have occurred. Our friend has accepted this as her sign... What do you think?

What a Heat!

It is sweltering down here in Jamaica. I went to visit my parents and sisters and we were talking about how hot it was. I mentioned to them that Seven had emailed me a picture of herself lying around in her indoor pool at her home in Florida and my parents and sisters were incensed. "You mean to say that we are here sweating until we may soon disappear and Seven is up there lying around in her pool with tall cold drinks and novels! Its just not fitting!" they said. "I know she just sent it to show off on us, you know! Seven! You and Midas better watch your back, man! We'll get you yet!" And so they sat there and fantasized about invading the U.S. and "liberating" that little piece of Florida that is Seven's for themselves...

A Quiet Evening.

Beyonce KnowlesI sit here listening to Natty on the phone with one of her friends. They are discussing a mutual friend of theirs who they are worried about. "She needs to realise that she deserves better.".... "She has this problem with dependency".... Look how long you've been in that relationship! How could she compare her relationship to that?"... "She needs to get some self esteem, and get her life together."... or something like that. Based on the fact that I'm listening in to all that, I guess you can tell that there ain't a lot going on.

We haven't got anything planned for this evening. MB. Jr. has gone to bed already... There isn't much to do. Looks like its going to be a quiet evening. Maybe I'll download some music.

Know what I noticed? Theres a new Austin Powers flick out! Who da thunk it? I know lots of people loved the previous two shows but they really didn't grab me. Not my brand of humour, I suppose. I actually fell asleep during the first one, can you believe it. Still, there must be some redeeming feature about it, or they wouldn't be releasing No. 3, right? So far, I'm guessing that it's most redeeming feature is that Beyonce Knowles (of Destiny's Child) is in it. How about y'all? Did you like the previous ones?

In other news, the Slut's back, after a bit of a (well understood) break. I was getting worried . Shes been having a lot of stuff going on. Glad to see she is keeping on keepin on...

Man and Woman Story

"It seems that what many men hate about women is their ability to change. No, no, no, not change for the better, as no one ever changes for the better, but rather change for the worse in the physical department. One big reason was in the weight area, the climbing kilos, the pachydermal pounds, and the huge heftiness." - Tony Robinson.

T-Rob is not mincing words, as usual. Last Sunday, he again delved into man-woman relationships, looking at divisive issues, and as usual he's let the chips fall where they may. Maybe thats what I like about him. I'm sure he knows that hes likely to arouse many women's ire, but he proceeds never-the-less...

What he says is true, men and women have all kinds of relationship problems, and it seems that weight gains by the woman can lead to problems big time! Often women encounter weight gains in their men, yet they seem to be able to soldier on in the relationship regardless. T-Rob suggests that this problem with weight gain is more of a problem for men, that they are more visually oriented, and that this is just the way that men are wired. When they don't like what they see when they look at their partners, there are going to be problems... and while I feel that this is indeed unfortunate, I believe that there is an awful lot of truth in what T-Rob says.

Many women would suggest that men are shallow because of this, but can you really fault the shark for killing? Can you fault the alligator for eating the frog? Thats what these animals were designed to do! Can you fault the man who is disturbed by his partner's excessive weight gains? I don't know. What do you think?

My Favourites

Now I don't think that I'm the worlds greatest writer, but still, every now and again I come up with a little something I like. I have long had a page where I showcase my favourite entries, but it has been a long time now since I last updated it. This is because I have to read back through stuff I have entered, then rank them, and that process takes time, bay-bee! I have finally read through the entries for May and selected a few that I like. I have to compare them to those which were in the list before to decide if any will replace those currently in the list.

How do I select my favourites, you ask? Well, after I have written an entry, I usually feel all enthusiastic about it. You see, I usually write with a lot of enthusiasm. Unfortunately, this enthusiasm doesn't always transfer itself to the entry, but just after I've written it, I can't tell. I therefore wait a while before reading it back. On the re-read, I select the ones that in my estimation, sound interesting to me. You see, I like the ones that I find interesting. From those that I've shortlisted, I select the top ten.

I will soon get around to the comparison of the May entries and the ones currently in the list, but in the meantime, I've selected my two favourites from May, and so I will highlight them here. They are "Four Shots" and "Rats". Tell me what you think of my choices nuh? By the way, whoever the Government paid to eradicate the rats, thay seem to have done an excellent job. I haven't seen a rat in New Kingston since.... well, since May. Later...

Adventures with Knives, Part I

Obsidian BladeCall me Blade. When I was a kid, I was fascinated with knives. I used to have small ones, big ones, ugly and pretty ones. I even got a beautiful black obsidian one when I went on a trip to Mexico City when I was younger. Alas, it broke. Obsidian does that. Indeed, the fact that it broke like that underscored to me how important the discovery of iron was in the affairs of man. Click "More" to continue, nuh?

Eeeeek!

Yikes!!! Look what might have been in the Harbour when we were coming back over from the Cay yesterday... Oh well, I've read that they are all around you where ever you are, once you are in the sea. The fact that they are there doesn't mean that you are in any danger. Still, I'm glad I didn't drop out of the boat...

It HOT, Iya!

Blouse-and-Skirt, it hot it hot it hot so till!!! (My Word! It is so EFFING HOT!!!) I went to Lime Cay again today, but it wasn't so bad there, because there was a nice breeze and when you got a little hot, you were able to cool off in the lovely waters of the Caribbean Sea...

I won't bore you with too much more about Lime Cay, since Dr. D. has told you all about it already. (For those of you who haven't read that yet, click here to read up more info on my one of my trips to Lime Cay. Click here to read up on why I love Lime Cay so much.) Once I got home though. Whew!

First I was working on a PC for Diego. I was sitting indoors, and it was still, not even a suggestion of a breeze. I began to ooze liquids, man! I must've drank a gallon of water to compensate. After I fixed the PC, I went and helped Diego move stuff to his apartment which is way up on the fifth floor. Trust me, it was some HEAVY stuff too. Did you know that uninterruptible power supplys (U.P.S.) are extremely heavy. Diego had two of them, plus a host of other stuff.Let me tell you, the work was all that much harder because of the oppressive heat! I was sweating buckets! I felt like liquid was being sucked from my body, literally. Now having liquid sucked from your body can be a very pleasurable experience, but NOT in the way, I'm describing, know what I mean?

After all the manual labour, I had to say to myself "Another bath again, to Ra$$!" That will be the third one for the day, and I'm nowhere near ready for bed yet. I had to drive home with the A/C going full blast, in the night, and with my car's air, that is a Big Deal! Its really, really hot, man...

Money, money, money!

Hold the phone!!! Oonoo read this yet? (Have you all read this yet?) It seems that the Guardian Newspaper in Britain is running a competition to find the best British Blog. The winner takes 1000 pounds! Why, thats real money! It seems this thing we call blogging has really come of age! (via Gert) Now, if only this could become a meme. (an idea that spreads like wildfire, like democracy, or human rights, for instance) Wouldn't it be great if newspapers all over the world took up the idea to run such a competition. Imagine if one of our newspapers picked up the idea. Why, Dr. D and I are the only Jamaican bloggers I know of. One of us would probably win the damned thing. Than we could split the money Heck, 500 pounds could work, if you know what I mean...

Ok, this next bit I got from an email sent to me by a bredrin (good friend) from high school, Prodigal Son, who comments on my blog from time to time.

Ten times when using the 'F' word was probably acceptable:

10. "What the @#$% was that?" -Mayor Of Hiroshima, 1945
9. "Where did all those @#$%ing Indians come from?" -Custer, 1877
8. "Any @#$%ing idiot could understand that." -Einstein, 1938
7. "It does so @#$%ing look like her!" -Picasso, 1926
6. "How the @#$% did you work that out?" -Pythagoras, 126 BC
5. "You want WHAT on the @#$%ing ceiling?" -Michelangelo, 1566
4. "Where the @#$% are we?" -Amelia Earhart, 1937
3. "Scattered @#$%ing showers....My ass!" -Noah, 4314 BC
2. "Aw c'mon. Who the @#$% is going to find out?" -- Bill Clinton, 1999

And ... drum roll . . .

1. "Geez, I didn't think they'd get this @%#*^ing mad." Osama bin Laden

By the way, I have been on the 'net for a long time, but I do not know what the meaning of the acronym "LMAO" is... Someone tell me nuh?

Mediocrity abounds.

Sometimes we end up applauding mediocrity here in Jamaica. Take for instance the new startup payment service PayOutOnline that I see announced in the Gleaner.

They congratulate themselves and announce that they have such great technology, and how this is the best service available to Jamaicans, and yet you have to print off the payment form you fill out online and send it along with a cheque to the nearest VMBS office! Where is the innovation. In what concievable way is this "on the cutting edge"?

Wake up, dudes. You're years behind current technology and current practice. All any Jamaican needs is an international credit card and they can make international payments (online too) more conveniently, and quickly! Stop telling Jamaican people lies! And try to do better than this in future. Like I said, what you're offering is obsolete before its even started up properly. Hmph... Its a Giant Leap... NOT!!!

In other news, Jamaica has taken five medals in the IAAF Coca-Cola World Junior Championships, up to 9:00PM last night, including a gold medal in the Men's 400 metres final. Yup, Usain Bolt of Jamaica ran away with the gold medal! Nothing mediocre about that. At least we can celebrate that, right?

Kiskos...

So, I sit here eating a kisko... You remember Kiskos? The fruit flavored juice in little soft cylindrical plastic containers that you'd buy and put in your freezer until they were hard? Remember? I hadn't eaten them since I was a kid. Now that I have a kid, Kiskos are in the house again and guess what? Dem taase nice, Iya! They taste really nice!

So, I sit and think over my day... I did a lot of work today. What a stress, you know?!? Also, I had lunch at the Jade Garden Restaurant in the Soveriegn Plaza. Great food! I went with one of the consultants that I'm working along with. He is Malaysian by birth and Chinese in ethnicity, though he now lives in the U.S.A. I will call him Chong Wing. He tells me that the Jade Garden Restaurant is superb, and that the food they serve tastes better than any of the chinese restaurants he frequents in the city he lives in.

We were chatting quite a bit. One of the things he told me was that his full name was really Chong Wing Hau, but that he shortened it when he moved to the United States. His family name was Chong, his generation name was Wing and his given name was Hau. This meant that all the male children in his family (brothers and cousins), who were of the same generation as he was would be called Chong Wing something. Isn't that interesting. They practice this naming convention by the generation, and they do this for twelve generations. After that period of time, the generation name could be reused. Of course, if you are Chinese, you knew all about what I'm telling you already, but if you aren't, you just might find it interesting, know what I mean?

By the way, guess who was there on a business lunch? Police Commissioner Francis Forbes, thats who. Who cares, you ask? Yeah, I know. I'm just saying, is all...

After work, Natty and I went to see Minority Report. Very interesting movie! I know some bloggers who hate Tom Cruise. Well, I think he did pretty well in this movie, they won't be able to fault him easily. I recommend the movie! Two thumbs up! Go see it, if you haven't already...

So, I sit here summing up the day, you know... You know what I wonder? How in hell did I forget about Kiskos? Damn!

The Buzz!

The Trinis who won the Men's 100 Metres FinalSo, what do you think the buzz is all about in Jamaica today? The upcoming election? Nope! Power cuts? Nope! The crime rate? Land tax? Problems in the Tourism Sector? Nope, nope nope! No sir, today, the buzz is all about the IAAF Coca-Cola World Junior Championships! It is being hosted in Jamaica, and got off to a good start about two days ago.

I read in the Gleaner that Simone Facey won a silver medal for herself in the Women's 100 Metres Final last night. An American, Lauryn Williams, won with a time of 11.33, while Jamaica's Facey clocked 11.43. All I have to say is "Gwaan train, my girl, and dus' her out next time!". (Keep training hard, and try to best Ms. Williams next time you meet her)

I also noticed that two Trinis (Trinidadians) took first (Darryl Brown) and second (Marc Burns) in the Men's 100 metres final. Big Up! (Congrats to them!) I like it when people from anywhere in the West Indies excel in sports or otherwise. It augurs well for the West Indies' hopes of good performances in the future.

I will keep you up to date with info when any other Jamaicans medal, or for world record breaking performances, but Track and Field is not really my thing. I've never been to the High School Championships in Track and Field here in Jamaica, for instance, whereas the majority of other Jamaicans will go AWOL from work, school, or even illicit liaisons with members of the opposite sex in order to attend. I know some of the Jamaicans reading this will be shocked. "Never?!?" No, Never! And I am not planning on going anytime soon.

But this weekend, maybe, just maybe, I will go down to the Stadium for an hour or two and watch a couple of events. Who knows? Maybe I'll be able to build up some level of enthusiasm. We shall see...

Unpatriotic!

I don't know if bin Laden is alive or dead, but where ever he is, he seems to have won a major battle with the US. He killed 2800 people, took out a major landmark, and caused a war that will have created more enemies for America in the Middle East.

More than that, though! He seems to have plunged America into a major panic. They seem to be giving up so many of the rights which were enshrined in their Constitution, the Constitution which has contributed in no small way towards making them the great country they have become. The place seems to be descending more and more towards becoming a police state.

In fact, based on the latest thing I've heard about, the Terrorism Information and Prevention System (T.I.P.S), George Orwell was only wrong in his predictions of the future (in the novel "1984") in terms of the time when the things he predicted would occur. He seems to have missed the time that this sort of world would appear by eighteen to twenty five years. Read one persons' interpretation of this new "system". Doesn't it sound frightening? Big Brother is always watching you INDEED!

Now I am not American, however, I think that all Americans should resist the changes that are being made which will affect their rights. This is a time for all Americans to be vigilant and militant in their defence of the values their Constitution upholds. To do otherwise would be unpatriotic! Thus saith the Mad Bull... What say you?

Kill-Devil & Pepsi... Nice!

Dr. D and I have been evangelising for Wray & Nephew's Appleton Jamaica Rum for quite a while now, (Dr. D. rather more than I) and I think that the time for you to learn more about what is probably Jamaica's favourite drink has arrived (possibly because I found a wealth of info on that topic on the web today).

We have the English to thank for rum, which they made from fermented sugar cane. The first time the word rum was used as the name for the alcoholic beverage produced was in the 1620's, but the first really palatable version of rum was made in 1703. Jamaica produces the second oldest rum in the world (made in 1749). We think its the best tasting in the world, though. Try it, I'm sure you'll agree with me. Jamaica's rums are sold in over 70 countries all around the world at this time, so you may be able to find it in a liquor store near you. For more info on the history of rum in Jamaica, check out the Jamaica Gleaner's Pieces of the Past series. Oh, and no, I am not a shareholder, I'm simply telling you about Appleton as a service to mankind, 'cause I'm nice like that.

On another note, I see where they also covered the Breadfruit in their series. I did the same, but never saw theirs while I was researching my rendition, so I think that mine was first. I also noticed that they took the opportunity to cover several other fruits and the story of how they came to be a part of the Jamaican landscape, so they seem to have taken first place there. Grrr! Anyway, take a look a both stories covering the breadfruit, nuh? Later...

Big Up, David

descent005e.jpgHow long can you hold your breath? Do you remember when you were a kid, and you went to the pool with your friends and would have competitions with them to see who could go down to the bottom and hold their breath the longest? The best I ever did was just over a minute.

Let me tell you about a guy who is good at holding his breath... more than that, actually. He's a freediver (among many other things...). This involves not only holding his breath, but swimming without the aid of fins, weights or anything except your own body to great depths, then swimming back up again... all on one breath of air. Now when you exert yourself, you expend the air in your lungs much quicker. The best I've ever done while exerting myself was definitely under 30 seconds. But enough about me.

David Lee is a Jamaican freediver. He is the current world record holder in free diving (for the third time). Yes, he got the first world record in this sport, somebody broke it, he broke their record, then two other guys broke his record, and then just this weekend, he broke their records again. He successfully decended to 51 metres or 167 feet in a total dive time of 2:14 minutes! This is without scuba tanks, weights or fins, people!

I know him slightly, he is more a friend of Diego's and he used to be a client of Natty's.

I'd just like to BIG UP David (congratulate him). Respec' my yout'!!! Follow the links, read up on another interesting, outstanding Jamaican. Thanks to Diego for the heads up... See ya!

A Good Day

Diego, Major Damage, Dr. D. and I went to Lime Cay again Saturday. It was cool. Actually, it was RA$$ hot, and mi bun up! (I got pretty badly sunburned! ) Otherwise, it was a good day.

After we got back from the Cay, I assisted a friend in moving some furniture and other personal belongings out of an apartment they had sold, and the manual labour (Ugh!), coupled with the earlier sun drenching put me to sleep early. I was hoping to get in a game of Kalooki, but mi did too tyad, Iya! (I was just too tired, y'all!). I'm going to have to arrange a game for later.

I want to take MB. Jr. to Lilo and Stitch, too. I wonder if they have a 2:30PM show? Yup, they sure do!

Laughter, the Best Medicine

I want you to start your day right, so I'll let you read this joke I got from Natty... Hope you haven't heard it before.

<JOKE>

Why I Fired My Secretary

(A true story - from a Toronto Star article

Two weeks ago, it was my forty-fifth birthday, and I wasn't feeling too hot that morning anyway.

I went into breakfast, knowing my wife would be pleasant, say Happy Birthday, and probably have a present for me.

She didn't even say Good Morning, let alone any Happy Birthday. I said, well, that's wives for you. The children will remember. The children came into breakfast and didn't say a word.

When I started to the office, I was feeling pretty low and despondent. As I walked into my office, my secretary, Janet said, "Good Morning, Boss, Happy Birthday." And I felt a little better; someone had remembered. I worked until noon. About noon Janet knocked on my door and said, "You know it's such a beautiful day outside and it's your birthday, let's go to lunch, just you and me." I said, "By George, that's the greatest thing I've heard all day. Let's go."

We went to lunch. We didn't go where we normally go; we went out into the country to a little private place. We had two martinis and enjoyed lunch tremendously. On the way back to the office, she said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day. We don't need to go back to the office, do we?" I said, "No, I guess not." She said, Let's go to my apartment." After arriving at her apartment, we had another martini and smoked a cigarette and she said, "Boss, if you don't mind, I think I'll go into the bedroom and slip into something more comfortable." "Sure", I excitedly replied. She went into the bedroom and in about five minutes, she came back out carrying a big birthday cake, followed by my wife and children. All were singing Happy Birthday...and there I sat, on the couch... with nothing on but my socks and a huge erection.)

Product of a Wandering Mind

Another Friday has rolled around... T.G.I.F! I wonder what Natty and I will get up to tonight? For the last few weeks, we've just stayed at home. If we stay home tonight, I hope we can get a Kalooki game together, otherwise, I hope we go out somewhere.

Lately its been the hardest thing on earth to get a Kalooki game together. I guess we're going to have to expand our horizons. We have to invite new people to play with us, not just the usual gang. We need to add more people to the set of people we play with, you know? That ought to increase our chances of finding people whose schedules allow them to play when we want to play.

Its wierd though... Its almost as if Kalooki isn't the most important thing in these people's lives! What a concept, huh? Downright spooky, man.

Well, I'm just back from the Mona Dam. I started running again, since last Wednesday. Its been great! Since I've been away for so long, I've just been running one lap and then walking one lap. I've also been doing some abdominals as well. Can anybody tell me why it is that when you take a break from regular exercise, its so difficult to get back up to speed? Its disgusting, Iya! (man!) I remember when I used to do the abdominals everyday, sometimes twice a day. I kept that up for a whole year! That and the push ups... I (thought I) was looking the best I ever have! I am going to get back to that state... I am!

Neo Lives Again

I've been waiting SO long for this! The release date of the second sequel to the Matrix has been announced! Man, I loved that movie! The only problem is, how in blue blazes do I wait so long for the movie to be showing somewhere near me?

Miscellaneous...

She not only bares herself for your scrutiny on her blog, she bares all at a couple of strip joints. Odd combination? Go ask Bliss for a virtual lapdance... (via Daana)

Doesn't it seem like gay guys are getting it more than hetero guys? Check out Faustus, see for yourself... (via wKen)

Some time ago, Prodigal Son told us how he was lucky to have danced with Kaywana in some comments to one of my entries on the blog. Then someone called visitor@nowhere.com emailed me to say that he remembered the DeCastro sisters well. He went to school with them at Campion College, Kimi was in his class, Kaywana (what a goddess) was in the class the year behind him! He gave me a link to a poster of Kaywana. Shes the one at the top left. Incidentally, Cindy Breakspeare (a former Miss World) is the one to the top right. Want to take a look at some of the hot numbers from when I was in high school? Check them out. The other day I heard news of another hot number from back in the day, Sita Dixon... Seems she lives abroad and is making megabucks. Mmmmm, a honey with money... Sweet! Dr. D, a you dat! Gwaan, my yout' (Dr. D., you should check her out!)
Peace!

Surf's Up!

Did you know that I was a surfer dude? How come, I blogged about it here... You haven't read every single line in my little blog, have you?

Anyway, I had a good opportunity to surf this afternoon (peoplesurf, that is). There was a meeting of all the middle level managers to discuss the latest offer by the company for pay increases. (Yes, here in Jamaica, even management is into collective bargaining...) Anyway, I got there early. I watched people come in. A group of three guys came in and sat down at a table. Shortly after that, a young lady came in. She was dressed in a tight, tight blouse and an equally tight skirt, and the skirt only went to the middle of her thighs. She wasn't strikingly pretty, but any man who said she didn't have a good body would have to be wicked and incorrigible! Indeed, it would take such a man to fulfill the words to Shaggy's song "It Wasn't Me!". But I digress. Trust me, this woman had it goin' on!

So I sat and watched the dynamics of the interaction between the three men and this woman. It became plain to me that she enjoyed their attention. Eventually she sat beside them, but she jumped straight back up, complaining that something was sticking her, probably her zip. She began to pull at her skirt, then to fiddle with her zipper right there in front of the men, who sat there with their eyes glued to her every move. Did I mention that her clothes were quite tight. And she was there wriggling around, trying to correct the problem with her "zipper". Anyway, she sat down again.

Shortly after that another gentleman came over and said "Wow, you look lovely... Lady in Red, huh?". He asked her if she knew that she had some young men admiring her, and he immediately pointed out the three men I mentioned before. She laughed and said to him "Pschaw man, dem married already, try find some other ones". (Those men are married, show me some single ones). He made some other comment to her and she leaned forward and said "I say dem married. You must show me some single men". Did I mention that her blouse was tight? The buttons by her breasts came undone and obviously the men were getting an great eyeful of her assets. She hadn't noticed that her blouse had come undone, so the gentleman who was talking to her pointed it out. She didn't pause for a second. She just said "You see how you are powerful! Look how long these three have been trying and nothing happened and you have just come and looked at me and suddenly my clothes are coming undone!". To cap it off, she turned to yet a fourth man and asked him to do her up! You can imagine the banter. The three men and the one who had been talking to her now began to rib the fifth guy. "Look how him a sweat!" (Look at him sweating!) I presume he wasn't married...

Now this is not the way everyone here interacts in the office, though it is not uncommon for that woman, but it occurred to me that some level of flirtation and "rude argument" (salacious conversation) is a common thing at the Jamaican workplace. I couldn't help but contrast it to what I have heard of the American workplace, where sometimes it seems that men are expected to behave like eunuchs... It must be rough, working in America...

Nuh Step Pon Chi Chi Man

In the previous posts' comments, Donald said that Natty and I must be exceptional Jamaicans re our stance on gays. Unfortunately, he is probably right.

I remember many things from high school... It is all indelibly written in my mind. There were good and bad things, but in retrospect, it was almost all good.

Before I went to high school, I had never heard of gays, to the best of my recollection. When I got there, I learned about them in a hurry. The first term of first form passed by without any hitches, but at the end of the term, I got into a fight with a guy (lets call him Asshole). Neither of us won the fight, as it was parted before the final blow was struck, but I definitely was having the upper hand. Anyway, school broke for holidays, and I forgot all about it.

The second term was awful!!! For some reason, everyone had taken to calling me a "battyman". (a local name for gays) I was teased unmercifully! I got into numerous fights, even in the middle of classes (the worst of which was a fight with Zilchie in Ms. Crosbourne's class). Everyone had it in for me. In high school, about the worst thing that could happen to you was for people to believe you were a battyman. People would assume you were womanish or weak or something, and they would try to cow you down, and to abuse you. Don't leave now, theres more.

Bruk Out!

Jamaica is "Prison Break Paradise"! Prisoners escape from jail so often that we have come to expect it as an at least once-a-week occurrence. So the government builds a new, state-of-the-art prison called the Horizon Remand Centre. Uses the latest technology, and requiring less warders to run the place, to boot... Guess what? The prisoners have been hotting up the place non-stop! Yesterday it was all over the radio that a warder had been beaten, and that a prisoner has escaped!!! Whats new?

I also heard that an Old Boy from St. Georges College has been put in charge there now. He was actually in my year at St. Georges... I sincerely hope he can do something to reverse the tide... It would be too embarrassing if he couldn't! I'm rooting for you, Prendy!!!

I think that the news article that describes the situation at the prison (linked to above) makes a most profound statement about our government : "They just cannot get things right.".

Random, miscellaneous, bullshit!

I don't have much to tell you tonight. I think I'll just let you in on a couple of thoughts that were running through my mind just this instant...

MB. Jr keeps singing the chorus of Elephant Man's song, Logon and Step on Chi Chi Man... Its an anti-gay song, and so Natty is always obsessing over it, one, because she doesn't want him to discriminate against gays, and two, because we have a number of friends who are gay and she fears that they might hear him singing it and wonder if we taught him the song, or something else in that vein. I feel hes too young to understand why he shouldn't sing it right now, and that our friends should know that he wouldn't have learned it from us. He learned the song from our neighbour's son who was taught it by his mother... Can you believe it? Still, it was quite embarrassing when he sung it to one of our gay friends one night. The friend never said anything about it. I hope he understood that it wasn't us who taught him that.

His First Movie? Awwww!

We finally got to take MB. Jr. to see his first movie (Spirit). It was pretty good, MB. Jr really seemed to enjoy it. Based on how he behaved in this one, I will take him to another one soon... If you want to read up a bit on this movie, go here

We had an old Jamaican song titled "I wish that a marriage license was just like a driver's license!". The song was expressing the sentiment that it would be desirable if marriage was a contract with a fixed time period, with an option to renew. Dr. D. seems to endorse the sentiments expressed in that song. Check out what he has to say on the issue. What are your thoughts on the issue of marriage and divorce? Let me know?

What a Stress!

No beach so far this weekend. No sir, it seems it is time to pay the piper. Natty has been after me to tidy up my magazine collection as she was tired of seeing the collection of magazines in boxes all over the house.

Those boxes represented an accumulation of magazines over the seven+ years of our marriage and some from before we were married too... Windows NT Magazine (Now Windows & .Net magazine), Linux Journal, Sysadmin, Webtechniques, and others related to Visual Basic, and MS Access. They are all old, but they contain valuable tips, and I could never bring myself to throw them away in the past.

Well, yesterday I did! What a stress! I really had to steel up my nerve as I threw them into the complex' rubbish bins. My only consolation is that I can probably order the back issues on CD from the magazine publishers. I shall have to surf their sites and see if they all offer such CDs for sale. I know for sure that Linux Journal does...

Apart from this act of great personal sacrifice, the only other thing worthy note that I did was to go have a drink with one of the consultants working on my project at work.

Not Only Does She Rock...

Well, I'm generally for the underdog, so you done know (can be sure) that I was rooting for Serena Williams to win the Wimbledon Women's Final. She did. Convincingly too. Guess what? Now Venus is looking like the underdog. Hmmm. This is so difficult ! Anyway, congratulations to the Wimbledon Women's Champion 2002, Serena Williams! She rules!

A Picture is Worth One Thousand Words...

Well, Dr. D. has finally posted his pictures from out trip to Frenchman's Cove last weekend. These are all his pictures. I took some too, but they came out dark and awful... You can see his pictures here.

Happy 4th of July!

So, its the fourth of July... It doesn't bring to mind images of tea being flung into the sea, or Paul Revere, or scenes of lines of Redcoats marching through the forest, being fired upon by revolutionaries, but not breaking rank or dicipline.

Rather, it brings to mind Jeff Goldblum trying his best to convince the U.S. President that something was "rotten in the state of Denmark", Will Smith punching out an alien invader, a lot of dogfights between alien spacecraft and U.S. F-16 fighter jets, and the scene where the alien spacecraft begins the destruction of New York... everyone looking upward as the alien spacecraft powers up its weapons and then the lance of the super killer laser leaping downward, obliterating entire citys. Of course, I'm talking about the movie Independence Day made in 1997. I loved that movie!

Anyway, let me take this opportunity to wish my American readers a wonderful Independence Day. I think you all should celebrate it like you always do, despite the fact that Dubya has also asked you to do so. To do otherwise would be to give the terrorists a victory. Depending on your view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, try to be like the Palestinians or to be like the Israelis. Each side knows they will have some losses of human life (a lot more for the Palestinians than for the Israelis, IMHO) and yet they continue to strive towards their goals regardless. There is something noble in that... However you decide to celebrate it, have a great day! Later.

Serena Rocks!

Overheard in my company's canteen, while watching Venus Williams play Justine Henin in the semis at Wimbledon :

Man 1 : I prefer Serena to Venus.

Man 2 : Serena has been serving harder of late. I think her overall game has improved and...

Man 1 : It has nothing to do with how she plays, you know!

Man 2 : Oh... Yeah, I'm with you.

I'm with them too...

My Dossier

So, I hear you've been dying to get to know me better. Ok. My name is Bull... Mad Bull. I was born in March of 1965. That makes me a Piscean. If you're into Chinese Horoscopes, that means I was born in the Year of the Snake. A Chinese consultant came to do some work for my company recently and he told me that Snakes are supposed to be obsessed with physical beauty... Yup! Sounds like me, to ra$$!

I'm an average Jamaican male, which means that I'm not average at all, if you know what I mean. No, I'm just kidding, although I really am not your average Jamaican dude.

I am fairly well educated, I not only have my first degree, I have a Masters in Computer-Based Management Information Systems. I am what Jamaicans call a "Browning", (and there are few of us left in Jamaica... We all are trying to increase our percentage of the Jamaican population, which is a hell of a job, but we're having fun trying! No, again, I'm just kidding). So what is a "Browning" exactly. I am a Jamaican of mixed ethnicity. Hey, our National Motto says "Out of many, one people", so you done know! (you understand). Yeah, as you can see, I'm fairly light skinned, in fact, I'm often mistaken for a Latino when I go overseas.

I don't use marijuana! I have tried it a couple of times in my wild and crazy youth (doesn't sound so wild and crazy, huh? Shhh, Seven, keep it quiet from Mum and Dad), but I couldn't be called a user by any stretch of the imagination!

Finally, I am married and have one child (yeah, only one)! All of the above make me one special Jamaican indeed!

I'm generally thought of as being a good friend, unless you're from Rockland County, New York. Even while I say this, I have few true friends. (Hey, you can't treat everybody that special, theres only so much of me to go around) I'm considered a nice kid by my parents, a wonderful husband by Natty (heh, heh! Its a good thing she can't edit this post) and a good father by all and sundry, or so I am told.

Now for my interests. I like jogging, I am interested in damn near anything related to computers, and I LOVE "nekkid" women! In terms of music, I like rhythm & blues, soft rock, soca music and of course, dance hall/reggae music. I like sports somewhat. Soccer is far and away my favorite sport, though I also like to watch or play volleyball, badminton, tennis, and one or two others. I am also a part time Cricket fan.

Anyway, if you want anymore details, go read my Blog... Have fun browsing through the stuff I have posted here on the web. Peace.

Uh Oh!

Monday night I went to a family dinner by my Mom's house. We were there until about 11:00PM. We got a call from someone who had left before I had, telling us to tell the others who were leaving not to drive by Manor Park, because a policeman had been shot and killed down there. This seemed to be a signal to all and sundry to go home, because all the other guests left immediately. (I wonder why?) I decided to stay back and pretend to be a dutiful son, helping with the cleaning up exercises, so I left a bit later than the others.

I decided to pass by the scene of the crime, mainly because I thought that the danger level would have evaporated by that time and it was the most direct route home.

When I arrived upon the scene, there were still large numbers of people, police, news reporters, etc. milling around, and thus there was a bit of a traffic jam. Apparently, the police officer drove up to the light which was red, so he stopped. A vehicle stopped behind him, and three men alighted, approached his car and fired upon the officer, killing him. Apparently they picked up nineteen spent rounds. They then seem to have stolen his service firearm.

This all occurred right by the Discount Pharmacy, on the corner of Olivier Road and Constant Spring Road, right in the heart of my stomping grounds! I drive by there several times a day! This is certainly not what we're used to in my neck of the woods... Its all quite frightening!

Hey, Sexy!

Women go through a lot of harrassment from men. All women will know what I mean, as they have to endure catcalls and other such harrassment from men from they reach puberty onwards.

My fifteen year old niece is no exception. She endures it back home in Canada, and apparently, since she has been vacationing in Jamaica, several guys have been calling to her, flirting with her, trying to get her number, and so on. She finds it all rather interesting and exciting (shes fifteen, remember!), and so she was telling me about some of them, including some that occurred back in Canada.

One sally she had to negotiate back home was a guy coming up to her and saying "Nice bum, where are you from." She thought that one was funny, but my sister was telling her that she was to have no interest in such men, because if they did not respect her from the start, they never would!

Hearing that exchange reminded me of the best comeback I'd ever heard. Seven had told me long ago that she and a friend were walking in Manor Park Plaza (a popular shopping centre) when a security guard decided to harrass them. He walked up to them and said "Hi, Sexy Breasts" to her friend. Now her friend is the Queen of the Quick Comebacks! She immediately replied "Nothing much, Syphillis Buddy!" (buddy is another name for a penis here) Needless to say, the security guard slunk off to lick his wounds... Another good one I had heard was about one of Roziz' friends. She was at the Epiphany Niteclub with a bunch of her friends, and a guy was pestering her unmercifully! She decided to have a smoke, so she took out her new pack of Rothmans, took out a cigarette and lit up. The pest saw this as an opening, so he rushed forward and asked her if she could spare him a cigarette. She said "No, I only have nineteen cigarettes left" . He wanted some of his own back after that one, he was so embarrassed! I believe an argument developed and he said something rude to her, so she ground out her cigarette in his nice, nice shirt! After that, the guy wanted to fight, so her friend's boyfriend had to sort the poor fellow out. Can you imagine?

Whats the snappiest comeback you've ever heard?

Enough already!

I was bathing MB. Jr. last night. I had my wrist bent back a bit as I applied the soapy rag to his back, when BOOM!!! A sudden sharp pain hit me in my wrist. Since then, anytime I exert any pressure at all while my wrist is not in a perfectly straight position, pain explodes in my wrist. I wonder if this is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome... I wonder if its caused by my use of computers, or is this an age related problem? (* sigh *) As if I don't have enough shit to deal with already.Waaahhhh!!!

Friends?

Its an awful feeling when a person you count among your closest friends turns their back on you.

A person who visits with you ALL the time, or you with them. If they're not visiting, they're on the phone. This was a person you could talk to, and did. You've shared your life secrets with them. You know THEIR life secrets, or at least you think you do. You've shared so many things with them... You've shared your life. Now, they act like they don't know you, never knew you... or maybe they act like you were only an aquaintance of theirs. Its especially bad when you don't know the real reason why they are treating you this way. It can really hurt.

I've done this to a person once. I had my reasons.
